Okay, after watching Rosberg last season and especially this race, I believe we need a new category. Presenting the Unlucky Bastard of the Race Award: given to the driver who would have gone on to a rather nice finish had he not been taken out of the race through the actions of another driver or mechanical failure. Rosberg would most likely be the recipient of the award in nearly every race, but I'm still throwing this out there.
...in bed.

I'll get behind the UBotR category.
also the: Fluke Did Not Qualify category. What does happen when a respectable team doesn't make the 107% due to crash out or severe changing weather conditions anyway? No more hero legendary drives from the back of the pack I guess.

The stewards are allowed to let a driver take to the grid if he didn't make the 107% if they deem that the driver was fast enough in practice to deserve a place on the gird if that kind of thing happens. Though if they have a problem in practice too (bad weather on Friday and car problems Saturday for instance) I'm not sure if the stewards are allowed to let them take the grid.

Had there been a 107% rule last year, Fernando Alonso would have fallen into the DNQ trap at Monaco. There's no doubt he'd have been allowed to start, though. It'd take quite a lot for any team other than Hispania and Virgin (and maybe FTM) to rack up a fluke DNQ this year.
