F1 1974 - Driver RNGs Complete

Post by Samster »

Going to make my first attempt at an alternate F1 series. I intend to include a mixture of ideas from both Tommykl's series and Pi's series which will be explained in more detail in due course.

It is 1974 and the FIA have decided on a major overhaul of the championship with the following changes.

1. Each team will be able to choose permanent racing numbers for each of their entries choosing from #2-#99. #1 will of course be reserved for the defending championship.
2. Teams will be able to run as many as 4 full time entries and/or 1 part time entry.
3. A major overhaul of the points system
4. World championships for Formula 2 and Formula 3 will be introduced from 1976 and 1978 respectively which will support every Formula 1 Grand Prix.
5. There will be three championships, one for drivers, one for entries and one for constructors.
6. Grid sizes at each Grand Prix will vary between 26 and 32 cars depending on track size. If entry lists exceed the grid sizes, a pre-qualifying session on the Friday morning will decide who makes the rest of the weekend.
7. 20 entries will have a guaranteed pass into the race for the opening three meetings based on 1973 success, the rest have to go through pre-qualifying. From the 4th meeting onwards this will be reset each meeting based on the 1974 entry standings.
8. As before teams may either build their own cars or purchase from second party constructors or other teams.
9. Full time entries will cost 250,000 credits per season per car and are obligated to attend every championship meeting. Any part time entries won't have to pay this season fee but will be subject to travel fees for each meeting they do attend (1 credit for every 10 km travelled).
10. The limit on full time entries will be 40 with 5 extra spaces for part-time entries each race.

The calender is the same as the real 1974 only with Japan and Australia included. There are also some non-championship events which do not count towards the championship and full time teams are not obligated to attend but travel costs will apply as above.

Here is your choice of teams below. All you need to do for now is choose your team. Sponsor choices, chassis development details and driver choices will be posted on a later date.

As the only full works team in F1 at the moment, Ferrari's budget is much higher than everyone else. Keep in mind that they are obligated to build and develop their own engines and that this also includes their annual allowance from their parent company.

Chassis and Engine Development

Three options for chassis use.

Option 1. Develop and build a new chassis.

Tier Low High Cost
++ 65 100
+ 60 95
1 55 90 15,000,000
2 50 85 12,500,000
3 45 80 10,000,000
4 40 75 7,500,000
5 35 70 6,000,000
6 30 65 5,000,000
7 25 60 4,000,000
8 20 55 3,000,000
9 15 50 2,500,000
10 10 45 2,000,000
11 5 40 1,500,000
12 0 35 1,000,000

Chose from tiers 1 to 12. The prices shown are a one time development cost then each chassis built will cost 1/10 of that development cost. I would recommend you build at least one spare chassis in case you have a write off at some point in the season.

Their is a large range in performance for each tier which means that throwing loads of money on development won't guarantee a top performing car. Conversely if you are really lucky it is technically possible to have the best car with a tier 7 design. Performance will be decided by RNG.

There are three areas of development, Chassis, Aero and Reliability. The first two will take from the range shown above for your selected tier. Reliability will take from a range of 0-100 for all tiers. You can opt to give even focus on all three areas, give focus on two of the three (meaning those two areas will take a performance from the tier above the one you chose) or give focus on just one of the three (the one area chosen takes from the tier two above the one you chose). If you decide to focus solely on reliability then the range for that will be 50-100.

You will also have the opportunity to make upgrades during the season.

Option 2. Keep the previous season's chassis.

If you look at the post above, some of you will see that you have older chassis in your processions list. You can opt to continue using these chassis instead of developing new ones. However you won't have any influence on their performance level. Remember you still need enough cars to use for your entries. You can also use these cars as spares.

If you don't want to use them you can either make a deal to sell them on to another team or scrap them for 50,000 each.

Option 3. Make a deal to purchase chassis from other teams.

Either buy another team's old chassis or make a deal with them to build a new one for you.

Lola have also developed a new chassis, the T370 (Tier 5), they have five chassis available for sale, prices are negociable but they will expect at least 600,000 each to cover construction costs.

Engine Development

Option 1. Build and Develop your own engines

Tier Low High Cost
++ 65 100
+ 60 95
1 55 90 5,000,000
2 50 85 4,000,000
3 45 80 3,200,000
4 40 75 2,500,000
5 35 70 2,000,000
6 30 65 1,750,000
7 25 60 1,500,000
8 20 55 1,250,000
9 15 50 1,000,000
10 10 45 800,000
11 5 40 600,000
12 0 35 400,000

This is mandatory for Ferrari as a works backed team, but entirely optional for everyone else. Same rules as chassis development. There are two areas of development, Power and Reliability. Power takes from the ranges shown above, reliability takes from 0-100, unless you decide to focus on reliability then it is 50-100.

Option 2. Make a deal to purchase engines from another team or Cosworth.

What the title says really. In this era of Formula One, Cosworth with their famous DFV are the only second party engine constructor. Since they will likely be supplying most of the field they have an unlimited supply of engines though they will also sell older engines for cheap. Prices are negotiable and are for each engine.

Brand New Engine (Tier 1) - At least 600,000.
Year Old Engine - Around 100,000.

Driver List

You may bid for three drivers per entry. Please state order of preference.
You don't have to choose from the list below but these are the drivers most interested in racing in Formula 1. Non-Fictional drivers only, and they must be realistically eligable to race in Formula 1.
Drivers are split into four categories, each with their own expectations. You should try and match those expectations with your bids.
You can make a contract offers ranging from race-by-race to anything up to three seasons. Though I would only recommend trying for that long a contract if you are one of the top teams. If you are making a multi-season bid please state the annual salary.
Some drivers have team preferences and may accepts lower offers from those teams. Chris Amon and Graham Hill are owner/drivers and thus will either drive their own cars or focus on team management. They won't accept offers from other teams.

I"m not likely to be that succesful, so i'm not going to ruin a top team. I'll take BRM, as BRM was pretty much doomed post 1974 in reality anyways.

I almost always take serious rejects, so please can I have Ferrari for a change.

I'd like to run two full-time cars (any two adjacent numbers under 30) and a part-time car (number 46).

Seems sign ups have dried up with just one team left. So tomorrow I'll start the entry sign ups and sponsor bidding. If Parnelli aren't taken by then, I'll look after the team until someone wants them.

Sponsor bidding is now open. Please note that there are a couple of automatic offers to certain teams. You are allowed one each out of title and associate sponsors, plus your Firestone or Goodyear money depending on which tire supply you choose later. You may make bids for three of each.

You also need to decide how many entries you want to have for your team. Full time entries cost 250,000 credits each which covers all event entry and travel costs but are obligated to attend each championship event (non-championship events are still optional and aren't covered by the season fee). Part time entries have no season fee but are subject to event entry fees and travel costs and are restricted to five championship meetings per season.

You may enter anything from one to four full time entries plus one part time. You also need to decide on your permanent race numbers for each entry choosing from #2-#99.

I have also revealed who gets the 20 locked in spots for the first three races on the opening post.

Important indeed, because as it look nows, every team could bid on 'all sponsors' :D Also are there going to be the possibility of pay-drivers or not? As that will have an influence on the amount of cars i could enter full-time.

For now, BRM will enter 3 full-time cars, as in real life, #14,#15 and #16, but the entry of #16 will depend on your answer.
I don't know what i want and i want it now!

What happens if we don't get these? Do we bid again, or can we put backup choices? Furthermore, shouldn't it be Goodyear and Firestone at the top, not Dunlop as they had pulled out of F1 by this point?

You get to bid for three title sponsors and three associate sponsors. And I have now corrected the post to say Goodyear not Dunlop, thanks for spotting the error.

By the way, you do not need to decide your tire supply yet, each of them have a cost which will be revealed later on plus details on their strengths and weaknesses.

I'll decide now, as BRM chose #14 first and used the number in real life, you get the number and Ferrari will have to chose another.
