2001 CART - Test #1 completed.

Post by Rabbi Gordon »

What the title says.

So I figured that as the two CART seasons here are dead and I am a huge fan of 1980-2003 AOW, I'll just take a stab at running this. And what's better for it than the last great season of CART?!

There are 16 teams as there were in 2001. 26 driver slots. The only changes from real life are that Dale Coyne is going to race a full season with one car at the cost of Forsythe's 3rd car (I think it's not good to have only one team with 3 cars).
There is a choice of 2 chassis and 4 engines. Firestone is the only tire supplier. Sponsors are going to be the part of the game, just as developments.
Damaged and written off chassis and engines will cost 50k to 300k, but no general condition will be monitored. (Eg: If you don't wreck you can race the whole season with one chassis and one engine without a loss in performance)
Only the teams will be managed.
Order of the choices will be: Team, Chassis/Engine, Driver(s), Sponsor(s)
Real drivers only and big F1 names and frontrunners will NOT come overseas as they have no reason to do so. (Coulthard wants to be an F1 champ, Hakkinen doesn't care, Frentzen is hoping for a free top seat, Montoya just gone to F1, etc.)

This is my first time running a virtual series and will use a combination of F1C (for the road races and ovals and maybe the street ones if it is not a wreckfest), RNG to calculate daily performances of the cars and drivers as well as the negotiations and maybe rFactor too, if F1C decides that it can only handle road courses.
Suggestions are welcome!

The 22 race calendar will contain the 21 races originally scheduled in 2001 and an extra race on the European leg.

1 - Monterrey Grand Prix - Fundidora Park Monterrey - March 11

2 - Long Beach Grand Prix - Streets of Long Beach - April 8

Yes, he is free and already in car #51, forgot to write it out.

Last time someone ran a non-canon AltCART I had Team Green, and it went surprisingly well, so I'll pick Team Green again. I'd probably have picked Honda engines even with free choice anyway.

Re: 2001 CART Series - 6 teams open

Post by Rabbi Gordon »

So as we reached 10 teams I post the chassis and engine manufacturers with their prices. Feel free to post your choices right now, but we will need all 16 teams to be present before doing the RNG for engines in order to have a fair competition.
Chassis is on a pay and take basis.

Chassis:
Reynard - 3,2m - Marginally better on road and street courses
Lola - 3m - Marginally better on ovals

Engines:
Honda - 3m
The almighty Honda engine. The one to have if you want to win on proper racetracks or emit clouds of smoke. (Maximum of 5 teams)

Ford-Cosworth - 2.5m
Left turns beware! The true and tested Cosworth engine with great durability and good top speed. Want to win the 3 crown jewels? This is your motor. (Maximum of 5 teams)

Toyota - 2m
Still not as fast or as well-regarded as the other two, but 100% competitive in every aspect for a low price. Midfielders and aspiring backmarkers, look no further. (Unlimited supply)

Phoenix-Ilmor - 0.7m
You will need a great wheelman if you want to race with this thing.
Low speed, low reliability, top kek. (1 team if someone is adventurous/rejectful enough.)

I will see if it is possible to have 27(+1) cars at all the tracks we'll visit and then why not. They started the actual season with two cars.

(and yes, Arciero also had an outdated chassis!!!)

They switched to a Cosworth at Milwaukee, Round 5. However, his practice times were amongst the top 10 in Long Beach.

Michael is not an F1 reject due to his final podium, but even then I like him more than enough to drive at my/his team.

The only reason to not take that route would be Montermini, but, well.... nope.

El facepalmo. How could I possibly forget that...
I have a provisional list of drivers who'd be available (atm, I have a lot of time both in school and at work.) and Montermini, albeit I thought of him, is not one of them. So Andretti, as he would only have driven for you, is signed.

Trying to come up with a list of drivers I'd like for Team Green (PT is not one of them)...

"My Friend Dario
Has a super make of car
Drives too fast,
Drives to flash
Screeching on the tarmac,
Echoes in his head
Then, in his face,
Drives too fast,
Doesn't care about the crash"

Don't know. I download the whole album OK Cowboy way back. My Friend Dario is only about the third or fourth best song on there. La Rock 01 easily the top track on that album.
