Forum back up - Hooray!

Post by BabyG »

I don't post often but lurk fairly frequently so I have been absolutely lost without the forum! How else am I supposed to interpret what is going on in the world of F1 without the guidance of the people who post here?

Well done to the person/people who got the forum back up and running! You truly are heroes.

BabyG has beaten me to it, but... yes, the forum is back up.

Apologies for the delay - we had a permissions issue with the server, and my emails were going unanswered. Turns out they weren't received and contacting the person who could help me directly addressed the issue.

Sorry again and feel free to get back into it with the season approaching.

We will be recording a podcast in the next two weeks, so look out for that also!

Cheers,
Jamie

Jamie, is there any chance the filter on words starting with f and ending in ck, such as feed.back (full stop added to circumvent the filter) could be altered please? At the moment there's a whole load of perfectly acceptable words that are being censored which is often making some replies confusing.

So it really was gone for a week? I thought I was dreaming. That, and I'd given the cache a good scrub for the first time in aeons and that's when it all went bang and started giving me 500 errors.

Sorry - I thought we had fixed this a while back - should be working correctly now.

Welcome back, board. It's good to find out the reason has not been a deliberate temporary shutdown to prevent an attack by those Force 1ndia fan hackers again who might not have liked the people's reactions on here to the recent signing of Adrian Sutil to the 2nd Force 1ndia seat. Even after the comeback of the board, I haven't found a trace of it being discussed, so people on here are clearly more bored by this than they would have been if Force 1ndia had signed Nick Heidfeld instead. ;-)

Sutil was signed during the forum's downtime. Even then, it caused barely a murmur.

I dunno, maybe Grosjean got dropped. Haven't checked Autosport in a few hours.

Because Crosswinds (the web host F1R uses) suck noodles.

Contary to someone's statement over the chat that Crosswinds did not tell anything about the downtime, they did. Pasted for reference:

I apologize for the gap in updates.

I had to send a friend to personally pick up the motherboard and drive it to the datacenter. It took FAR longer than I ever hoped.

After that we had to swap the motherboard - that took a couple hours - configure the settings and get the RAID to cleanly import the data.

Finally, it is done and everything is up.

I am running a final data validation while the server is operational.

Again, I apologize for this issue. Murphy really ate our server today.

Tony

We finally got the server up to identify the issue. We have a failure of a component on the motherboard - that's why it would immediately die and reboot. We identified this by swapping out everything except the motherboard.

However, this creates a problem. We talked to our vendor and they have to special order the motherboard. Due to the onboard RAID chipset (slightly older) we need THAT board. We cannot find an addin card that does the same thing (no longer produced).

The board has been ordered but will take a few hours to get here.

Right now your sites and data are safe, but not accessible until this is done.

Tony

Something has failed on cwpro2. It comes up and once completes it's boot up, reboots immediately with no warning/error.

It's hard enough to debug that when at the keyboard but I have to do this with remote hands. A very capable engineer is looking at it and we're both scrambling to get the system back up ASAP.

Will keep you all informed.

Tony

At least they did tell us. :)

Oh, I see it now. So basically both Crosswinds' and Shoutwiki's servers decided to bite the dust almost simultaneously (although in the latter case it was because of a software update instead of a component failure). I must say though that it isn't easy to find the update news page - unless I'm mistaken, one has to go through the Crosswinds Cadre to find the link there.

Is it just me or do Crosswinds suffer component failures worryingly often?

A mafioso name for a mafioso hosting company! Fat Tony's gone and channeled all the server maintenance budget into drug deals again...typical.

Guess this is the most appropriate thread for what I am about to post?

Both before and after yesterday's forum downtime, whenever I load a new page on these forums in my uni's library, I get an antivirus warning (Kaspersky) saying malware has been detected. The actual message is:
URL http://www.f1rejects.com/fso.swf containing malware detected

Anybody else getting this? What's going on?

It may be some hackers have injected malicious code into the website again. I don't see any reason why Jamie or Enoch would have uploaded an SWF file on the website in the first place, let alone the main folder.
