BTCD 2004 - Croft Race 9 Qualifying Up

Post by Samster »

This will be the feeder series to the BTCC as mentioned in that thread. Fiction and real teams can enter, drivers must still be real and not currently racing in something more high profile. I'd look in the TOCA feeder categories and local club racing scene for your best bets. Some drivers will come with personal funding.

Forgot to mention, teams from the Development series may enter rounds of the main series as wildcards but it will come out of your budget. £30,000 per round just like for the main teams if you want to do that.

This will run two 75km races at each meeting and will support 8 rounds of the main BTCC.

Calender
1. Cardiff
2. Silverstone
3. Oulton Park
4. Cadwell Park
5. Croft
6. Brands Hatch
7. Donnington Park
8. Birmingham Superprix

All teams will start with £500,000, entry fee per car, per season is £100,000 or £15,000 per meeting.

Cars

Teams will use older cars from the BTCC, ETCC, STCC etc, any touring car series that runs to the 2 litre formula.

A list of teams with cars to sell for the series will be in the next post, cars can only be bought from them. Any cars bought from a team current in the main BTCC will go towards that team's budget for that series.

Pines Racing would like to register a preliminary entry into the series, but we will wait until the full car list is out before making any firm plans. I'm very tempted by those Alfa's though, although I suspect their performance in this series will be closer to real life than ToCA Race Driver, where (if I remember correctly) they were inexplicably fast.

Will driver choices be done the same way as the 'proper' BTCC?

No, since all teams in this will have equal status then its first come first served. ;)

In that case, we'll buy the Dynamics Astra and put Alan Blencowe, who drove in the PBTCC in 2003 so is hopefully eligible, in it for the whole season.
We may buy a second car later on in the season depending on prize money.

Also, just a suggestion, but what about offering the championship winner a paid for BTCC drive in 2005 as a reward, similar to what Ginetta did with Adam Morgan?

Forgot to add prize money. The same points system will be used as in the main BTCC, with £1,000 per point.

And I'll award the championship winning driver £500,000 to go towards a BTCC drive.

Team Dynamics are happy to do business with the fledgling Pines Racing, and wish you the best of luck with your campaign next year.

What about development teams for BTCC teams? Or maybe for wider member participation development agreements? I.e. a condition of Dynamics selling their Astra might be a young driver (lets say Sheddon) has to be placed with the customer in a 2nd car/x amount of races?

In that case, Pines Racing will spend the rest of its £500000 initial budget on a Vic Lee 406, which will be entered on an event by event basis, when Blencowe gets us enough prize money to enter it. (I don't like going into debt).

I did think of that but there's a chance that everyone will just extend their main series teams into this one. And I'd rather we weren't chock full of those and end up like a certain oval based series that I'm not particularly fond of. :P

Farfus already has a works Alfa drive in the ETCC so has no need to enter a junior category. Also no development teams as I said above in this post.

Haha, yeah I've just realised how that would pan out... What about rules governing a BTCC team offering to sponsor a driver to drive in the development series in return for x number of years (say max 3) of ownership of the driver's rights? I'm just playing devils advocate here and kicking a couple of ideas about. Thinking it through, it might lead to manufacturer monopolisation a little too much.

H'mm I think I might allow that as long as it doesn't get too complex.

Forgot to mention. Give your car numbers too as in the main series. But only those not already taken by a main series team so as to avoid conflicts should you decide to enter any wildcards.

#17 is already in use by the main series SEAT team. You need a number that isn't already taken by either a main series or development series team.

If you are struggling for suitable drivers then look up the 2003 and 2004 SEAT Cupra Cup UK on wikipedia. If you have better luck at finding info on the 2004 Clio and Carerra Cups in the UK then they have suitable drivers too.

They won't be unless you enter your cars in a main series event as a wildcard. Hence the numbering rule to avoid confliction. The V8 Development series has the same rule.

Actually, there isn't any rule per-say that I know of, but instead it's a result of the very system of how the entries are handled. The former AVESCO and now V8 Supercars Australia create all the racing entitlement contracts, which team owners have to buy in order to compete in either the Main Game or the Development Series. Each entitlement contract has a unique number attached to it, hence why no two cars have the same number.

These contracts do lead to some very interesting arrangement however, as for example, Charlie Schwerkolt leased the iconic #18 REC to Dick Johnson for many years, before the two fell out and Schwerkolt took his contract to FPR as their fourth car next year.

On the wiki, Pines Racing currently has a budget of -£100000. As I would like the 406 Coupe to be entered on a £15000 event by event basis, even if it ends up costing us money in the long term, I think we should instead have a budget of £0:

Astra: £250000
Whole year's entry for Astra: £100000
406 Coupe: £150000

I'd suggest Andre Couto. Not too shabby guy from Macau with quite alot of backing. Regularly competes in the Guia race.

No! No! Henry Ho! Get Henry Ho!

He's another Macauese driver who has done his home event in WTCC. Don't know if he has at much money as Couto though...
