The alternative F1 calendar

Post by roblo97 »

Here’s a new game for fanatics! Create your own F1 calendar and there are only two rules: first is that you must select the same amount of venues as there are right now (20), secondley anything goes as long it is between 3.5km and 8km I’m interested to hear why you’ve made your selections too :D

Does listening to a dog licking its balls get you excited?

That's between me and my internet service provider.

Do you make an exception from the 3.5 km rule for Monaco (3.34 km) ?

Yes because Monaco is an essential part of f1s history although you can make it  longer if you want to

Maybe this topic is posted before, but I believe this counts for 2013 season?
Or was there another 2013 topic way back?

2013 in my world.
A season with the most beautiful, attractive and challenging circuits.
I also think of the environment, try to avoid lots of travel from europe and back.

01. March 3 - Australia Melbourne
02. March 10 - Malaysia - Sepang
03. March 24 - Brasil - Interlagos
04. March 31 - Mexico - Mexico City
05. April 14 - Europe - Donington Park (20 years after)
06. April 28 - Spain - Catalunya (version without silly chicane)
07. May 5 - Austria - Zeltweg (old circuit re-fashioned by rebuilding the fast corners)
08. May 12 - Monaco - Monte Carlo
09. May 26 - France - Paul Ricard
10. June 9 - Canada - Montreal
11. June 23 - USA - Laguna Seca
12. July 14 - Great Britain - Silverstone (back to version 1997 - 200?)
13. July 21 - Germany - Hockenheim (long straights version)
14. August 18 - Czech - Brno
15. August 25 - The Netherlands - Zandvoort
16. September 1 - Belgium - Spa
17. September 8 - Italy - Monza
18. September 29 - Abu Dhabi - Marina Circuit
19.October 13 - Japan - Suzuka
20. October 27 - Oceania - Bathurst

My attempt at a somewhat realistic calendar.

1. Australian GP - Melbourne
2. Malaysian GP - Sepang
3. Chinese GP - Shanghai
4. Spanish GP - Barcelona
5. Monaco GP - Monte Carlo
6. French GP - Paul Ricard
7. British GP - Silverstone
8. Canadian GP - Montreal
9. American GP - New Jersey
10. German GP - Nurburgring
11. Hungarian GP - Hungaroring
12. Belgian GP - Spa
13. Italian GP - Monza
14. Russian GP - Wherever the 2014 race is going to be held
15. Singapore GP - Marina Bay
16. Japanese GP - Suzuka
17. Indian GP - Buddh (To be replaced with a Czech GP at Brno if it fails to establish itself)
18. US GP - Circuit of the Americas (God I hate that name, but I'm willing to give it a shot)
19. Mexican GP - Mexico City
20. Brazilian GP - Interlagos

I hate the name as well. First, it implies that it was the first circuit ever to be built in the Americas. Second, the name is just so full of itself. I know they want the track to sort of "represent" the Americas like how the Hungaroring is for Hungary, but it doesn't, so they shouldn't act like it does. Finally, it's not very specific, either. The Hungaroring is clearly in Hungary, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is near Spa or Francorchamps, but "Circuit of the Americas" could be anywhere in the Americas. I would much prefer something like "Circuit of Austin", "Austin Park", etc..

My ideal calendar for 201x

March
1. Interlagos, Brazil

April
2. Austin, Texas, USA
3. Monte Carlo, Monaco
4.Imola, Italy

May
5. Montreal, Canada
6. New Jersey, USA

June
mid-season testing/Young Driver test/non-championship races
7. Paul Ricard/full Le Mans, France

July
8. Silverstone, UK
9. Hockenheim, Germany

August
10. Hungaroring, Hungary
11. Spa, Belgium

September
12. Monza, Italy
13. Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia

October
14. Suzuka, Japan
15. Melbourne, Australia

I think 15-16 races is enough in any one season, particularly if mid-season testing makes a return. My 16th race would be Moscow, pending how the races there turn out, or else Turkey (Istanbul, not Constantinople). But where would be a logical place in the above calendar, taking travel routes and costs into account? Immediately after Hungary?

Not fussed about the order, but this would be interesting, and with a race on every continent. The Middle East gets cut (goodbye Sakhir and Yas Marina), but we gain races in South Africa, Turkey, Slovakia, Netherlands, France, Portugal, Mexico and Argentina.

Melbourne, Australia
Sepang, Malaysia
Kyalami, South Africa
Istanbul, Turkey
Slovakiaring, Slovakia
Silverstone (Bridge Circuit), Great Britain
EuroSpeedway Lausitz, Germany
Spa, Belgium
Zandvoort, Netherlands
Monza, Italy
Paul Ricard, France
Monaco, Monaco
Motorland Aragon, Spain
Portimao, Portugal
Montreal, Canada
Circuit of the Americas, U.S.A.
Hermanos Rodriguez, Mexico
Portrero de los Funes, Argentina
Interlagos, Brazil
Suzuka, Japan
The Iceman Waiteth
What if Kimi Räikkönen hadn't got his chance in 2001?

My Formula 1 Calendar for 2013:

3.3. Australian GP / Melbourne
10.3. Oceanian GP / Bathurst
24.3. Argentine GP / Buenos Aires
7.4. Brazilian GP / Interlagos
21.4. South African GP / Kyalami
12.5. Spanish GP / Jerez
26.5. Monaco GP / Monte Carlo
2.6. French GP / Dijon-Prenois or Magny-Cours
16.6. Austrian GP / A1-Ring
30.6. British GP / Silverstone
14.7. European GP / Mugello (held on a different track every year)
28.7. Slovakian GP / Slovakiaring
18.8. Dutch GP / Zandvoort
25.8. Belgian GP / Spa-Francorchamps
8.9. Italian GP / Monza
22.9. Canadian GP / Montreal
6.10. USA GP / Laguna Seca
20.10. Turkish GP / Istanbul
3.11. Singapore GP / Singapore
10.11. Japanese GP / Japan

I added a second event in Australia, left out many of the new Asian races to bring back the Argentine, South African, French and Austrian GP, moved the European GP to Mugello, replaced the Hungarian GP with the Slovakian and moved the Japanese to the end of the season.
