Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2012 Canada

Post by Shizuka »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Charles Pic's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

Results to be done: June 16, Saturday

Sergio Perez - Climbs ten places to crawl onto the podium, can't say fairer than that

I've only followed the race by text commentary so can't make the most informed of decisions. Definitely between those two though. I'd edge it to Perez after his dismal qualifying and pulling off the one stop strategy. Shows Malaysia was no fluke as well.

1. Sergio Perez - a podium from nowhere proving that Malaysia was no fluke.

2. Romain Grosjean - not exactly unexpected, but a surprise nonetheless.

Sergio Perez - Did he do all of that with only ONE STOP?! And he'd even ruled a podium finish out before the race! Fanpluggingtastic.
Romain GGGGRRRRSSSSJJJJNNNN - Mighty impressed.
Sticking his neck on the line, one post at a time. Oh, and Singapore is still better than Monaco.

Fixed.

Grosjean/Perez top two.

Had Perez not been held up behind Rosberg he may have won this race.

1. Perez - Chico will go down in history as one of the greats with drives like this.
2. Grosjean - As DOSBoot rightly said, everyone's favourite Frenchman (well. except eurobrun) does it again. The Best Frenchman since Jean Alesi and Alain Prost.

1) Perez: Absolutely flying, and how in the heck did he get the 1 stop strategy to work?
2) Grosjean: Once he becomes less erratic I think he'll be the dark horse of the season.

Mark my words: one of those two drivers will win this year.

So easy to pick two, the big problem is rank them. Have to give edge for the driver who climbed further back.

So

2. Grosjean

I'll go with the trend here... I think no explanation is necessary.

1. Sergio Pérez
2. Rmmnnn Grrrjnnn

Honorable mention:
Pedro de la Rosa - for outqualifying both Marussia drivers and being ahead of them all the time until his car failed. Great drive, considering the car he's in.

Looks like it's a lockout between these two drivers, but which order in which to place them? I'll go for...

1. Perez
2. Grosjean.

Grosjean and Perez, of course :D

Honorable mention goes to Pedro de la Rosa for kicking Marussia's butt, as well as being the only competitive and competent driver at HRT.

Honourable mention to De La Rosa, to be quicker than the Marussias until he retired, even jumped Petrov at the start. It may not have been HRT's race, but that was the closest they've ever got.

Perez then Grosjean, only because Perez started further back. Great drives.

Honourable mention to Lewis Hamilton. As the great Murray Walker used to say, "catching is one thing, passing is another".
