Guess the F1 driver

Post by stupot94 »

In spirit of the other motorsport event Le Mans, lets play a game.
I will put a picture of a car from a certain Le Mans year. And you have to name the F1 drivers or driver which drove that car.
All you win is pride and smugness. The number of F1 drivers who drove the car is the number in the bracket.

1:
Image (5) 1999

2:
Image (4) 1999

3:
Image (6) 1999

4:
Image (3) 1996

Disclaimer: Le Mans race only, no other Sportscar championship races. Driver may not be in car at time of picture.
No Wikipedia allowed Test driver do not count. They must have least been a part of the main drivers line up.

1. I THINK it's Alan McNish
3. I'm pretty sure that's Mark Webber.

Number 2''s helmet looks like Timo Glock,

can be wrong, been wrong many times!
Miserable Thierry (Boutsen) staggers round mostly on ten cylinders (out of 12) with no clutch, low oil pressure, bad brakes and no grip to finish tenth, 3 laps down...

(Murray Walkers review of Boutsen's Brazil 1991 race).

Thats a point these days!

I clearly remember the Toyota GT-One (TS020)!

The 1998 design was amazing, and that was driven by...
#9: Katayama and... Toshio Suzuki with Keiichi Tsuchiya aka the drift king.
Other car was... maybe #24: Boutsen was the only F1 driver in this car.
Oh yeah, #32 was Brundle's car.

The 1999 model is a bit shady in my memories, but I remember McNish driving it that year.

1. Did Brundle drive it that year? He did one year. Can't remember any of the other three drivers without looking it up.. :(

Remember. none of the drivers are in the car at that time.

I will put the answers up in a few days.

I'm going to give this a go (and with the help of the previous responses):

1. Katayama, Brundle, Sospiri, T. Suzuki, McNish, Boutsen (that makes 6 does it not? It is 1999, isn't it?)
2. J. Winkelhock, Martini, Dalmas, Lehto
3. Schneider, Webber, Gounon, Lagorce, Lamy ... Heidfeld maybe (Merc contracted driver in 1999?)
4. Johansson, Alboreto (you can see their names on the side of the car!)

I think Heidfeld would have been busy with F3000 duties that year.

Oh crap, I wrote 1998 down as well - I thought the car was the important and not the year :D
Toyota GT-One 1999 had the same drivers as 98 +McNish, I'm sure.

the engima of the CLR is still a difficult one (in many ways), i had to do some trawling to find who drove which car:
Mark Webber
Jean-Marc Gounon
Marcel Tiemann
(#4) with orange wing mirrors - seen flipping here

Christophe Bouchut
Nick Heidfeld
Peter Dumbreck
(#5) with blue mirrors - which flipped during the race (on youtube)

Bernd Schneider
Franck Lagorce
Pedro Lamy
(#6) pictured, with yellow mirrors, still runs occasionally, last intact one.

now further searching reveals, to my surprise, that all three drivers of the #6 car pictured have had formula 1 careers - if somewhat brief (lagorce). I also noticed your bracketed number of (6), therefore i will submit;
Bernd Schneider
Franck Lagorce
Pedro Lamy
Nick Heidfeld
Mark Webber
Jean-Marc Gounon
of course we can note that mark webber and nick heidfeld were not actually F1 drivers at the time - and a minor point is that Bouchut almost drove for larrousse in 1995.
i'll take that pride and smugness thank you!

The 1997 Joest Porsche WSC95 was driven by Michele Alboreto, Stefan Johansson and Tom Kristensen, Joest only entered the one car.
Therefore there were only 2 F1 Drivers in that car.

But in 1996 they entered 2 cars for; Jones/Wurz/Reuter (won) & Alboreto/Martini/Theys (DNF).

Yes I looked it up. :P

I only looked it up after Stupot had given the answers......& only then because ADx had queried it (but he'd got the wrong year) :P

No one did :). Stupot does have the wrong car as that is definitely Stefan J's helmet.
