Simon Redman's super rejectful GPL career

Post by simonracer »

My career will start in Formula 3 cars in 1964, although actually my career will start in some Formula 3 races from 1967. (It's 1964 just to be realistic.) I will be driving a 1967 BRM P81-F2/3. There will be a heapload of races, I have no idea how many, since they will have been races from all over the world. But only on tracks which I have. I'll just post the winner, polesitter and where I finished and started. Formula 3 is just to gain experience.
NOTE: I will actually be driving Formula 2 cars, they just have Formula 3 physics. With Formula 2 drivers.

Race 1: Brands Hatch. Winner: Jackie Oliver. Polesitter: Jim Clark. I never made it off the start line. My car's engine failed. Rindt, 2nd place started Ernesto Brambilla and Chris Irwin crashed on the first lap.
Race 2: Brands Hatch. Winner: Frank Gardner. Polesitter: Jochen Rindt. I finished 17th after a crash. I completed a lap although I had actually crashed on the first one. My car could still run but it was undriveable. The accident occured when Jochen Rindt crashed and was hit by Alan Rees. I came in and hit Piers Courage who flipped in the air. He was somehow able to continue. John Surtees got hit by Courage's flipping car and turned turtle. He didn't continue.
Race 3: Snetterton. Winner: Frank Gardner. Polesitter: Jochen Rindt. I finished dead last. I got caught up in a collision at turn 1 with a Matra. My car was still driveable, although the suspension may have been a little broken. Entering a fast left hander it bottomed out under braking and I locked up, but I was going way too fast anyway. My car speared off and slammed an earth bank and destroyed my car. Rindt crashed at the first bend. He later crashed again and was out.
Race 4: Oulton Park. Winner: Jochen Rindt. Polesitter: Jack Brabham. I finished dead last again! I went off on the first lap after starting 18th due to Jackie Oliver and Graham Hill failing to complete a lap in qualifying. My car crashed on the first turn on the third lap. I took the corner too fast, spun, and hit the embankment before rolling. Oliver and Chris Irwin crashed as well.
Race 5: Brands Hatch. Winner: Jochen Rindt. Polesitter: Jochen Rindt. I am possibly the WORST driver of all time. Started last. I crashed a couple of laps in and damaged my suspension badly. The AI is ridiculously fast here.

Rejectdom in motion

Don't worry about being super quick or anything for now... just try to keep it on the road (And from what I've read about the game that alone is hard to do)

Super-super-rejecdom continues!
Race 6: Oulton Park. Hill won. Clark was on pole. I failed to finish after I crashed when I went too fast into a bend.
Race 7: Brands Hatch. Hill won. Oliver was on pole. I made an incredible 6 laps before the steering broke after I hit the barrier at Paddock Hill.
Race 8: Oulton Park. Clark won. He was on pole as well. I crashed at turn 1. Somehow got stuck under one of the Matra's.

More rejectdom!
Race 9: Brands Hatch. Hill on pole. Jackie Oliver won. I slid off at Paddock Hill, and hit and somehow got wedged in the haybales after only completing 2 laps.
Race 10: Snetterton. Jackie Oliver won again, this time from pole. I crashed again after 4 laps. Finished last.

GPL is supposed to be quite possibly the hardest racing game ever. So you have an excuse for your rejectfulness as we couldn't do any better.

After the first series of 10 races in Great Britain, I decided to do all the other races. There were only 12, although they were quite long. As a side note there were more but most were in places like Denmark. There was also a race in Hungary called the Socialist Countries Cup.
Round 1: Buenos Aires. Hill on pole. Hill wins. There was an extreme rate of attrition in this 35 lap race. Only 10 cars finished. I made it 20 laps before I crashed at the same corner which most of the field had wrecked at. Full results:

Thanks for that. I'm running F3 which is much easier though.

I totally agree, I really enjoy playing it as it is a real challenge, much more than F1C so it's really satisfying when you complete a race without crashing or something going wrong. Plus the sound of that Ferrari engine...my god it's probably the best engine sound I've ever heard in a computer game!

Good luck with the future races though!

Pau is nowhere near Paris. It's in south-western France...

Thanks for that. Wasn't very sure where it was. That's why I said "I think."
