How come Brundle is actually at the Hungaroring?
As far as i remember he is never at this race, i thought there was an arrest warrent for him out in hungary or something(entire speculation).
Anyone know why he is there this year?
Anyone know why he is there this year?
Kobayashi is back! Need I say more!
Re: How come Brundle is actually at the Hungaroring?
He had the "Hungary Free Time" clause in his ITV contract based on his in 97 still existing Le Mans career which was, despite him not racing there anymore, continued until ITV lost the F1 coverage. BBC doesn't take kindly to free time, I guess, so it's not in the contract.
Although Brundle getting arrested on live TV would sure be interesting.

Be good on his grid walk. Have one of the drivers feck his mic as he's being frog-marched away and ask things like: "How does it feel to be arrested, Martin?"

He's usually on holiday, but with the four week break there's no need to miss a race to go on holiday.

Not going to lie (and the last couple of races notwithstanding), if I had to pick one race per year to skip to take a vacation, I'd pick Hungary.

Well, I did this, even though I could've easily gone next (this) week.

What, not Valencia?

Valencia wasn't on the calendar for Brundle's time at ITV, except 08 when we were all expecting it to be thrilling beforehand.

Idiot racists that occasionally pop up in Spain could allow for interesting off-track action, at least.

In the early days at ITV it was Canada Brundle used to skip (due to Le Mans), not Hungary.
Re: How come Brundle is actually at the Hungaroring?
Hell, going back further, in the pre-ITV days Murray would quite often skip Hungary so he could commentate on the MotoGP (though it wasn't called that back then) instead.
I coined the term "Lewisteria". The irony is that I actually quite like Lewis Hamilton.

No, I don't mean going to those places. I mean going camping for a week and not paying attention to Formula One at all.
Re: How come Brundle is actually at the Hungaroring?
If I had to take a break, I'd choose the Valencia race. Even though I'm Spanish and I like Valencia, I'd rather see this circuit dumped off. It's boring as hell.

The term "as boring as hell" makes no sense to me. "As soul-torturing as hell" makes more sense, and could still be applied to the Valencia circuit.
Watka - you know, the swimming horses guy

OK, Watka, I'll take your thought into consideration. Many thanks for your suggestion

Hmph. I was told by nameless individuals on this very forum that missing Hungary due to a wedding was no biggie and look at what I missed out on.

Miss Abu Dhabi next time. Considering the race there couldn't be run with rain (on the exceptional case it rained) and the circuit isn't great, you won't probably miss a lot

I'm not so sure, I've seen pictures of snow in Dubai before...
Might need a re-introduction of those enormous seventies front wings to act as snow ploughs!

It's risky business skipping the final race though.

Yeah there's a picture on Google Earth (you know the ones people have uploaded?) of a busy motorway somewhere near Dubai and its covered in snow!
Here found a link, though granted it was on high ground.

Or this and in a similiar vein, this.
Or this, this and then a year later, this!
So really, the final race tends to be quite an exciting, must-see event really!
