2010 IndyCar with 2010 F1 Points System

Post by JohnMLTX »

It's the alternative championship done backwards, using the current f1 points applied to this year's indycar season. I figure, enough former f1 drivers are involved with indycar to make it relevant. And to keep things simple, i'm only gonna do the top 10 from each race, and the championship standings.

Here's Sao Paulo

1. Will Power
2. Ryan Hunter-Reay
3. Vitor Meira
4. Raphael Matos
5. Dan Wheldon
6. Scott Dixon
7. Dario Franchitti
8. Mike Conway
9. Helio Castroneves
10. Tony Kanaan

Points:
1. Will Power - 25
2. Ryan Hunter-Reay - 18
3. Vitor Meira - 15
4. Raphael Matos - 12
5. Dan Wheldon - 10
6. Scott Dixon - 8
7. Dario Franchitti - 6
8. Mike Conway - 4
9. Helio Castroneves - 2
10. Tony Kanaan - 1

Constructors:
1. Dallara-Honda - 101

Why aren't you doing a teams championship instead of a constructors championship?

Other than that it looks like a good concept and I can't wait to see how many points Takuma Sato scores

Because 1: With Indy factored in, and the random shuffling, it'd be way more complicated; 2: In formula 1 and old cart days, it's constructors; and 3: I find it funny that at every race, I just add 101 points to the Dallara-Honda score.

Could you flesh this out when it's all done and do the math for the road courses and the ovals separately? You don't have to do it on a per-race basis, because that would just add more clutter to this, however.

OK, well, here's the final points tally:

1 Dario Franchitti 229
2 Will Power 221
3 Scott Dixon 193
4 Helio Castroneves 173
5 Ryan Briscoe 146
6 Tony Kanaan 125
7 Ryan Hunter-Reay 113
8 Dan Wheldon 77
9 Marco Andretti 75
10 Danica Patrick 71
11 Justin Wilson 69
12 Raphael Matos 34
13 Vitor Meira 33
14 Mario Moraes 30
15 Alex Tagliani 26
16 Graham Rahal 22
17 E. J. Viso 19

20 Paul Tracy 8
21 Mike Conway 7
22 Simona De Silvestro 6
23 John Andretti 2
23 Takuma Sato 2
25 Bertrand Baguette 1

Constructors (completely futile, i know):
1 Dallara-Honda 1717

And here's the actual top 25 according to the indycar points, for comparison:

1 Dario Franchitti
2 Will Power
3 Scott Dixon
4 Helio Castroneves
5 Ryan Briscoe
6 Tony Kanaan
7 Ryan Hunter-Reay
8 Marco Andretti
9 Dan Wheldon

21 Takuma Sato
22 Bertrand Baguette
23 Milka Duno
24 Mario Romancini
25 Mike Conway

At some point soon, I'll do the Street/Road points and Oval points just like this, and as soon as i figure out the best way to do the team points (any suggestions welcomed), i'll do those for all 3.

One ninth place at Edmonton.

The rest were 7 out of top 10 and 9 retirements.
He looked fantastic in some races (mid-Ohio, KANSAS (he ran as high as 3rd!!!), but had an almost magnetic attraction to the wall.
It didn't seem to hurt his spirits that bad, though, when I talked with him after the Texas race.
He's apparently gonna sign for next year, so, fingers crossed, he'll improve.

OK, here's the Mario Andretti Street/Road Course Championship Trophy points!

1 Will Power 188
2 Dario Franchitti 119
3 Scott Dixon 95
4 Ryan Hunter-Reay 79
5 Ryan Briscoe 77
6 Helio Castroneves 73
7 Justin Wilson 57
8 Raphael Matos 34
8 Tony Kanaan 34
10 Mario Moraes 24
10 Marco Andretti 24
12 Alex Tagliani 21
13 Vitor Meira 15
14 Danica Patrick 14
15 Graham Rahal 14
16 Dan Wheldon 13
17 Paul Tracy 8
18 Mike Conway 7
19 Simona De Silvestro 6
20 E. J. Viso 4
21 Takuma Sato 2
22 Alex Lloyd 1

It should be noted that Will Power secured the trophy (LIKE A BOSS) after Edmonton, with 2 more races to go.
And if IndyCar were run like champcar or f1 (ie. no ovals!), he'd have won the title. Oh well...

Also, the oval championship will be up soon, along with teams for all three. Also, anyone got some ideas as to how I should do teams? I can't figure it out...

Top two scorers from each team at each race will count towards the teams championship. For example at St Petersburg Power (1st), Briscoe (3rd) and Castroneves (4th) all scored points. However only Power's and Briscoe's results will count towards the teams championship. At Barber Motorsports Park which was the next race Castroneves' result (1st) and Power's result (4th) counts towards the teams championship disregarding Briscoe's 6th place finish.
