1986 Alternative Standings

Post by tommykl »

Williams and McLaren have been disqualified, Williams for having let Prost catch up (couldn't find anything else, sorry), and McLaren for making Mansell's tire blow.

1st: Ayrton Senna (Yaawn) - 87 points (9 wins, 1 2nd)
2nd: Stefan Johansson - 47 points (2 wins, 4 2nds, 1 3rd)
3rd: Rene Arnoux - 45 points (2 wins, 3 2nds, 1 3rd)

24th: Piercarlo Ghinzani - 0 points (1 9th)
25th: Alessandro Nannini - 0 points (1 11th)
26th: Alex Caffi - 0 points (1 Not Classified)
27th: Ivan Capelli - 0 points (2 Ret)
28th: Eddie Cheever - 0 points (1 Ret)

Constructor's standings
1st: John Player Special Lotus-Renault - 100 points (9 wins, 1 2nd, 1 3rd)

9th: Minardi-Motori Moderni - 2 points (1 5th)
10th: Haas Lola-Hart - 2 points (1 5th)
11th: West Zakspeed - 2 points (2 6ths)
12th: Osella-Alfa Romeo - 0 points (1 8th)
13th: El Charro AGS-Motori Moderni - 0 points (2 Rets)

Notes
Christian Danner escapes reject status before his 4th place in Detroit (you lucky bastard).
In Portugal, Patrick Tambay, originally not classified, was classified in 11th, because when McLarens and Williamses are removed, he actually completes 90% of the distance covered by the alternate winner.
Johnny Dumfries escapes reject status more markedly.

The Patrick Tambay thing is really interesting. Has anyone else accounted for that or encountered it in doing other years?

Ayrton Senna - 9 wins
Johnny Dumfries - 1 3rd

I think Senna went a bit too far in pushing for a teammate who wouldn't challenge him.

Just out of interest, what would the standings be if Senna was removed and Rosberg restored?

By popular (midgrid) demand, here are the standings again if Rosberg is reinstated and Senna's dropped instead.

1st: Stefan Johansson - 55 points (4 wins, 3 2nds)
2nd: Keke Rosberg - 52 points (4 wins, 2 2nds, 1 3rd)
3rd: Rene Arnoux - 48 points (2 wins, 4 2nds, 1 3rd)
4th: Michele Alboreto - 35 points (2 wins, 2 2nds)
5th: Jacques Laffite - 34 points (2 wins, 4 3rds)
6th: Gerhard Berger - 31 points (2 wins, 2 3rds)
7th: Martin Brundle - 23 points (2 2nds, 2 3rds)
8th: Johnny Dumfries - 17 points (1 2nd)
9th: Thierry Boutsen - 15 points (1 3rd)
10th: Philippe Streiff - 13 points (2 3rds)
11th: Teo Fabi - 12 points (1 2nd)
12th: Riccardo Patrese - 12 points (1 3rd)

16th: Derek Warwick - 7 points (1 3rd)
17th: Christian Danner - 5 points (2 5ths)
18th: Jonathan Palmer - 4 points (1 5th)
19th: Andrea de Cesaris - 3 points (1 4th)
20th: Marc Surer - 3 points (1 5th)
21st: Elio de Angelis - 1 points (1 6th)
22nd: Huub Rothengatter - 0 points (1 7th)
23rd: Allen Berg - 0 points (1 8th)
24th: Alessandro Nannini - 0 points (1 10th)
25th: Piercarlo Ghinzani - 0 points (1 10th)
26th: Alex Caffi - 0 points (1 Not Classified)
27th: Ivan Capelli - 0 points (2 Rets)
28th: Eddie Cheever - 0 points (1 Ret)

Constructor's standings
1st and 2nd will not be awarded, as McLaren and Lotus would easily have won had the two drivers driven. The standings start in 3rd place.
3rd: Ferrari - 90 points (6 wins, 5 2nds)
4th: Ligier-Renault - 90 points (4 wins, 5 2nds, 5 3rds)
5th: Benetton-BMW - 43 points (2 wins, 1 2nd, 2 3rds)
6th: Data General Tyrrell-Renault - 36 points (2 2nds, 4 3rds)
7th: Barclay Arrows-BMW - 23 points (1 3rd)
8th: Brbham-BMW - 20 points (2 3rds)
9th; Haas Lola-Ford - 19 points (1 3rd)
10th: West Zakspeed - 4 points (1 5th)
11th: Minardi-Motori Moderni - 3 points (1 4th)
12th: Haas Lola-Hart - 2 points (1 5th)
13th: Osella-Alfa Romeo - 0 points (1 8th)
14th: El Charro AGS-Motori Moderni - 0 points (2 Rets)

Notes
Instead of a one-man show from from Senna, Johansson clinches the title in the final race, with Rosberg having led the championship half the time. Coming in to the final race, Rosberg had a 6-point advantage over Johansson and Arnoux, before retiring from the race, leaving Johansson the win and the championship. Arnoux finished 5th.
