The 2010 Hot Lap Cup

Post by DemocalypseNow »

Inspired by MinardiFan's F1 World Championship, I have come up with an idea of my own - the GP4 Hot Lap Cup.

The format is simple as you can get - the fastest outright laptime wins.
Everyone must driver the same assigned car at each race, and must be set during a live qualifying session (free practise doesn't count, it's not as tricky when you don't have to worry about traffic ;)). Also, difficulty must be switched to 'Ace'. Apart from that you have the flexibility to change setup as much as you like (though the steering help driver aid will be banned, and most of the other aids are blocked in ace mode anyway).

As part of the cup there will also be the normal driver-nominated ROTR and IIDOTR - and there will also be a KataCesaris Trophy - whoever has the most crashes during a weekend will score 3 points, the 2nd most crashes 2, and of course the 3rd most 1 point.

Teams are allowed to have max. two drivers each. When creating a team please indicate whether you want someome else to join or not. All 2 car teams will compete for a constructors championship.

I've just done GP4 so far, but if anyone else wants to suggest more games to add to this then just post them here...
Here's what you need to post and where:
THIS THREAD
Team Name
1st Driver Name
Driver 2 slot open/closed
Car Number (1-99)
Your Prefered Game (if it isn't GP4)

BY EMAIL TO ME

Quali Time
Number of retirements (includes crashes where a wheel is lost but driver was able to limp back to the pits!!)

To start off with, we head to a sunny Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada, where several Minardi PS01s are parked line astern in the pit-lane. The circuit is open for setting timed laps every day until the 13th of June, so drivers will have to get a move on!

Team: Atom Motorsport
Driver 1: kostas22
Driver 2: Open
Number: 22
Game: GP4

Note; This championship will be abandoned if less than 5 drivers sign up to the series before the deadline of the first round.

You do know you could do both...? Then you could even have a chance of winning the Constructors Cup solo that way

Also forgot to mention...old points system is being used, the 10-6-4-3-2-1 one.

F1C has the Minardi PS01 too right? If not just use the M01...

Team: Lola-Simtek (Name abbreviation LOLS)
Driver 1: Anthony Davidson
Driver 2: closed
Car Number: 13
My preferred game: F1 2009 on PSP (or either of the two earlier ones for PSP, depending on whether anyone else cares to also do it on PSP, which I doubt...)

Also, going on hols to Greece on Tuesday so will miss first round, but will definately compete from second round onwards, providing someone else is also using PSP...

If not I can think of a good team-name for you... 'Deutschland Disaster GP', and the #35 as a tribute to Hans Heyer

As for time, I might change to having rounds bi-weekly.

Press Release | Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal | 6th June
Team boss and lead driver Kostas walked towards the awaiting press with a grin on his face, knowing his laptime in the Minardi PS01 he had achieved earlier was something special.

"That was a great lap, maybe one of my best ever," he said, almost chuckling with laughter. "I knew if I could get the first sector hooked up I'd be able to put in a good lap, but I didn't expect something quite as fast as that. To be over a second faster than Schumacher's Ferrari in the same car Tarso [Marques] failed to qualify at Silverstone is simply amazing."

However it didn't all go to plan - the mechanics were kept busy as Kostas was having frequent altercations with both the track and the drivers.

"The guys in the pit did a great job today fixing up all the cars I smashed to bits! That must have been one of the most expensive pole positions ever in Formula One, so it's just as well I'm also the team boss and I won't be facing anyone's wrath after that."

Kostas also observed the only other driver out on track today, Wizzie, in his attempts to snatch the fastest lap time away.

"Oh man, he's bringing tears to my eyes! So many pathetic shunts. I even walked down to his garage late in the day and gave him some setup advice - only for him to bin it again! My fastest lap time is pretty secure, though I have a feeling he'll be leading the KataCesaris Trophy after this is over..."

Meanwhile Kostas' team-mate in the World Championship, Enforcer, today joined the team as 2nd driver, and will help the team battle for the constructors title.

"It's good that Enforcer joined the team, he's a safe pair of hands without a doubt. He's been outpaced a few times by Wizzie though, so hopefully his Quali pace is getting better all the time. I don't know when he'll be doing his times for the competition, but I got this over and done with quite early; I figured it would be good practise for the World Championship event tomorrow. And on that note, I've got to catch a flight to Paris, so this interview is over."

Cool. Demand for the PSP! But unless I get round to it this afternoon, I will not have a chance until after I return from my hols on 15th June so a round 2 start for me!

Oddity.

Since I was caught for time with this, I just used the set up I'd come up with in the F1 Rejects Round, without even tweaking it between runs. Yet I was about 0.6 seconds faster this time - the Minardi just felt like it had more grip than the Arrows - even though there aren't individual car physics in GP4. :?:

I think the whole cars being identical is a myth tbh - I found the exact same thing, that the Minardi has better front-end grip than most of the other cars somehow!

It also occurs to me I was in the Minardi in my brilliant rain drive at Silverstone.

I've only ever driven the Sauber, Jordan and Williams for a full season and they all felt much the same. Maybe I should drive the Minardi next time I have a bite at a Championship season...

At the sime time though, they're not tiered realistically - you can be as competitive in a Minardi as in a Ferrari.

The thing about Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix games, as I found out recently, is that there are performance difference between AI cars, but the player's car has different performance settings. When editing GP2, you can tweak this feature, so your car has the same performance as your team-mate's car. I bet it's possible to tweak it in GP4 too. Sadly, as far as I know, no one has bothered thus far to release a 2001 mod with updated performance levels...

Round One | Circuit Gilles Villeneuve | Results
A shockingly low turnout for the series' debut has meant the series is on indefinite hiatus until more entries are found for the GP4 series at least, and the F1C series will be canned unless there is a significant upturn in entries for it.

Nevertheless, there was some on-track action going on, and after the series organiser forgot he actually had said job ( ) the results have just been released:

Fastest Laps | GP4
1. kostas22 | ATOM MOTORSPORT | 1.14.695
2. Wizzie | MRT | 1.15.254
3. Enforcer | ATOM MOTORSPORT | 1.15.676

Fastest Laps | F1C
1. Klon | DEUTSCHLAND-DEPPEN GP | 1.21.316

KataCesaris Trophy
1. Wizzie | 21 Crashes
2. kostas22 | 12 Crashes
3. Klon | 3 Crashes
4. Enforcer | 0 Crashes

DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP | GP4
1. kostas22 | ATOM MOTORSPORT | 10pts
2. Wizzie | MRT | 6pts
3. Enforcer | ATOM MOTORSPORT | 4pts

DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP | F1C
1. Klon | DEUTSCHLAND-DEPPEN GP | 10pts

CONSTRUCTORS CHAMPIONSHIP
1. Atom Motorsport | 14 Pts
2. Deutschland-Deppen GP | 10pts
3. MRT | 6pts

KATACESARIS TROPHY STANDINGS
1. Wizzie | 3pts
2. kostas22 | 2pts
3. Klon | 1pt
NC. Enforcer

I will controversially award myself IIDOTR for actually winning something for once while not even having the most crashes, while Klon earns a joint ROTR for a time so slow he would have failed to qualify for a race had there been one. The other half of the ROTR goes to the people that entered and didn't show up.

Well, I don't have any F1 racing games anymore that would run on my computer. But the reject team I'd run for would be called Fifti Corse because they come after Forti Corse.
"I don't think we should be used to finance (the manufacturers') R&D because they will produce that engine anyway" said Monisha Kaltenborn.
"You will never see a Mercedes using a Ferrari engine or the other way round."

To start off with, we head to a sunny Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada, where several Minardi PS01s are parked line astern in the pit-lane. The circuit is open for setting timed laps every day until the 13th of June, so drivers will have to get a move on!

Team: Atom Motorsport
Driver 1: kostas22
Driver 2: Open
Number: 22
Game: GP4

Note; This championship will be abandoned if less than 5 drivers sign up to the series before the deadline of the first round.

That was the first post in this thread, made on the 5th of June.

I think I've made my point :D

Fair enough, but it's a bit hidden away. When I first looked at this thread all I saw was the rules and your team application.
