Old pieces of press - regarding rejects

Post by Aerond »

I´ve just found some hilarious comments by Adrian Campos in Spanish press regarding his performance at 1987 Spanish GP; I´m translating the whole piece:

EL PAIS - 27th Sept. 1987

Adrian Campos, the only spanish driver in Formula One, had an appaling performance yesterday. First, he had trouble with his car, which suffered an Oil leak. Giancarlo Minardi, the team boss, decided to use a new engine, a new one, and Campos went against the wall when he was trying to improve his time.

Campos says he found Patrese, the italian in the Brabham, who made an strange move when he was going to pass him; "I had to crash against the wall", he said.

Patrese, on his side, said he didn´t see the Minardi. All in all, Campos will start today at home 24th out of 26 cars in the grid.

This wouldn't slip through in the modern era of Whole Spanish Press censorship on anything demeaning or negative against any Spanish racing driver... In this article we are harking back to a more free time!

The Whole Spanish Press cares about successful Spaniards only, case in point HRT

I'd heard about that once before, but thought they only agreed to it, not actually received the decor itself. Either way, irony at its cruellest
