African Le Mans Series
African Le Mans Series
Welcome to the African Le Mans Series, a series by African racing drivers a British guy with a laptop for African racing drivers. Unlike most Le Mans series, this one is only for Le Mans Prototypes. Given that LMPs are expensive and the African motorsports scene is not exactly swimming in money, this should be absolutely fine and not go wrong in the slightest.

Re: African Le Mans Series
AfLMS Teams
The African Le Mans Series is expecting to see entries from ten teams:
Allpower Moss Racing (Rating: 3/10)
Simon Moss's team doesn't come with the budget of a RBRA or United, but it does come with the owner-driver's own vast knowledge of South African circuits. His priorities are:
Basil Green Racing (Rating: 2/10)
Basil Green Motors have a long history of being thrown around South African race tracks. That was a while ago, but the BG want to use their second-hand car money to go racing again. Their priorities are:
Ferodo VDL (Rating: 7/10)
The van der Lindes are one of South Africa's most prominent racing drivers at present, and will be looking to make a bit of a mark in the 12 Hours of Africa. Their priorities are:
Fez MB Racing (Rating: 6/10)
This is strictly a privateer effort by Mehdi Bennani, but he'll need co-drivers. Did anyone mention he's the only Moroccan to win an FIA World Championship race? His priorities are:
GPXtreme (Rating: 4/10)
Although the money comes from Abu Dhabi, this team has a history of entering African drivers into things. They will be looking to do the best they can for Jordan Grogor and Axcil Jefferies. Their priorities are:
Red Bull Racing Africa (Rating: 8/10)
Red Bull has become a huge name in motorsports, but one place they feel they could sell more of their product is in Africa. For this reason, they're looking to create an exciting brand with their AfLMS team. Their priorities are:
Sonangol Factory Racing (Rating: 5/10)
The Angolan petrochemical giant has decided to throw its money behind an AfLMS team, with a focus on promoting Angolan drivers. We'll see how this goes. Their priorities are:
Tejas Hirani Racing (Rating: 1/10)
A proud Kenyan, Tejas Hirani has driven cars painted in the Kenyan flag, while wearing Kenyan flag overalls. So when a prestigious African series comes along, he was quick to sign himself up. His priorities are:
United Autosport (Rating: 9/10)
Zak Brown's United Autosport will enter anything and do well, and is keen to expand its LMP2 empire into Africa and start winning Championships. Their priorities are:
Wayne Taylor Racing (Rating: 10/10)
Wayne Taylor Racing has a storied history in IMSA, but Wayne Taylor himself has a proud racing background in his native South Africa. His priorities are:

The van der Lindes are one of South Africa's most prominent racing drivers at present, and will be looking to make a bit of a mark in the 12 Hours of Africa. Their priorities are:
- A family entry into the 12 Hours of Africa that does better than WTR.
- Winning a championship with at least one van der Linde.
Fez MB Racing (Rating: 6/10)
This is strictly a privateer effort by Mehdi Bennani, but he'll need co-drivers. Did anyone mention he's the only Moroccan to win an FIA World Championship race? His priorities are:

Red Bull has become a huge name in motorsports, but one place they feel they could sell more of their product is in Africa. For this reason, they're looking to create an exciting brand with their AfLMS team. Their priorities are:
- Signing marketable drivers - young drivers and female drivers if possible.
- Winning races and possibly Championships.
Sonangol Factory Racing (Rating: 5/10)
The Angolan petrochemical giant has decided to throw its money behind an AfLMS team, with a focus on promoting Angolan drivers. We'll see how this goes. Their priorities are:
- Getting an Angolan driver on the top step in at least one class.
- Ricardo Teixeira.
- Kenya.
- Participating in every race.
United Autosport (Rating: 9/10)
Zak Brown's United Autosport will enter anything and do well, and is keen to expand its LMP2 empire into Africa and start winning Championships. Their priorities are:
- The LMP2 Teams Championship.
- Drivers who are already part of the United Autosport family.
Wayne Taylor Racing (Rating: 10/10)
Wayne Taylor Racing has a storied history in IMSA, but Wayne Taylor himself has a proud racing background in his native South Africa. His priorities are:
- A one-off LMP2 family entry into the 12 Hours of Africa.
- An LMP3 entry to scout new young talent for his IMSA team.

Available Drivers
The following is a list of available African drivers. They will make up the majority of the grid; drivers not on this list, and not from Africa, can also be chosen - this is but a suggestion.

Re: African Le Mans Series
AfLMS Rules
- Race entries can be made with either two or three drivers; however, three drivers will be needed for the 12 Hours of Africa.
- No more than one non-African driver is allowed per entry, with the exception of the 12 Hours of Africa.
- Championship Points will be awarded to the top six cars in each class; for the Drivers Championship, they will be split equally between the drivers in that car, except the fastest lap point.
Points (12 Hours of Africa) - 1st place - 150 points / 2nd place - 90 points / 3rd place - 60 points / 4th place - 45 points / 5th place - 30 points / 6th place - 15 points / Fastest Lap: 1 point
Points (all other races) - 1st place - 60 points / 2nd place - 36 points / 3rd place - 24 points / 4th place - 18 points / 5th place - 12 points / 6th place - 6 points / Fastest Lap: 1 point
So for example, Car #32 wins the 4 Hours of Senegal with two drivers, one of whom sets the fastest lap. Their drivers score 30 and 31 points respectively, while the team scores 60. - In real life there'd be a bunch of technical regulations, but this is a forum game so there isn't.

Much appreciated. Might need a little bit of extra information here; are you planning to run three-driver rotations even in the four-hour races? And are these cars LMP2 or LMP3
Also, going to change it so your numbers are within the same block of 10 like we were saying on the chat - 22 and 23 okay?

Re: African Le Mans Series
I loved playing as the Kenyan team in the Brian Lara cricket series so I’ll take Tejas Hirani Racing.
Car: Norma M30 (LMP3)
Drivers
1. Tejas Hirani
2. Jeremy Wahome
3. Carl Tundo
Single car operation for now if possible, if not I can expand to a second car with shudders no Kenyans.

Yep, a single car operation is absolutely fine. How a team evolves over the seasons will be based largely on how it meets its objectives, so I wouldn't dream of making you take no Kenyans
Re: African Le Mans Series
Sonangol Factory Team will select numbers 75 and 76, with 1975 being the year of Angola's independence and 1976 being the year of foundation of the Sonangol company.
Car 75 - LMP2
Ricardo Teixeira: lead driver
Luis Sá Silva: 2nd driver
Duarte Ferreira (I think he doesn't race anymore, however we could try and sign him for the 12 Hours of Africa)
Car 76 - LMP3
Rui Andrade
Fiorio de Sousa
Naomi Pitzer (12 Hours of Africa only)

They've been running P2 and P3 classes for the last three years, so I figured they may wish to do the same here. But yeah, with so few major teams likely to tilt at season-long P2 entries, I feel like United would feel confident of challenging for that Championship.

Alright, United Autosports will run the LMP2 championship, and the 3rd driver for both will most likely only be used at the 12 hour race.

Unclaimed teams:
There's a whole lot of unclaimed real estate in the LMP3 Championship in particular right now. Wayne Taylor and VDL will have their family entries into the 12 Hours regardless of if anyone picks them up, but it'd be nice to see a couple more cars competing for the LMP3 wins - currently it's pretty much just Team Angola versus Team Kenya.

First Driver RNG
Honestly there isn't likely to be much RNG here as there aren't all that many overlapping bids.
Jonathan Aberdein
22-year-old South African driver Jonathan Aberdein turned out to be in high demand for two of the best teams on the grid.
Rui Andrade
Rui Andrade, Angola's 20-year-old driver, has an LMP3 offer from the Sonangol Factory Racing as well as an LMP2 offer from Red Bull Racing Africa. It's a tricky choice, one between patriotism and a faster car.
The Number 24 United Car
I've been left in charge of RNGing the Africans for the two LMP3 entries for United. This should be fun.
The Number 25 United Car
And again.
Rayane Ait-Adjedjou - Algeria gets a presence on the grid!

Jonathan Aberdein
22-year-old South African driver Jonathan Aberdein turned out to be in high demand for two of the best teams on the grid.

- 51-100: Accepts the #31 offer for Red Bull Racing Africa

- 1-50: Andrade goes with his country, and takes up the Sonangol drive.
- 51-100: As a young and ambitious driver, Andrade jumps at the chance to drive an LMP2 for Red Bull.
The Number 24 United Car
I've been left in charge of RNGing the Africans for the two LMP3 entries for United. This should be fun.
- Rayane Ait-Adjedjou
- Jimmy Auby
- Ivana Cetinich
- Gavin Cronje
- Roman de Beer
- Youssaf El Marnissi
- Julien Gerbi
- Ovie Iroro
- Nagy Kabaz
- Jayde Kruger
- Vimal Mehta
- Christiano Morgado
- Callan O'Keeffe
- Kamil Rahal
- Ismail Sbai
- Alan van der Merwe
- Dion von Moltke

The Grid So Far
#22 - United Autosport, LMP2
Driver 1 - David Perel
Driver 2 - Alex Brundle
Driver 3 - Stephen Simpson
It looks like United will be the only team to run a three-driver rotation for its LMP2 efforts.
#23 - United Autosport, LMP2
Driver 1 - Raoul Hyman
Driver 2 - Hugo de Sadeleer
Driver 3 - Jonathan Aberdein
Another three-driver rotation because you'd better hope that after getting Aberdein off Red Bull they're going to use a driver of his quality all season long.
#24 - United Autosports, LMP3
Driver 1 - Jimmy Auby
Driver 2 - Will Owen
Driver 3 - Felipe Albuquerque (12 Hours of Africa only)
Albuquerque can only manage a one-off race because of his WEC and IMSA commitments.
#25 - United Autosports, LMP3
Driver 1 - Rayane Ait-Adjedjou
Driver 2 - Mahaveer Raghunathan
Driver 3 - Paul di Resta (12 Hours of Africa only)
Again, di Resta has some pretty big commitments (see: F1 commentary) but can do the 12 Hours.
#31 - Red Bull Racing Africa, LMP2
Driver 1 - Jordan Pepper
Driver 2 - Felipe Fraga
Driver 3 - TBC (12 Hours of Africa only, probably)
Red Bull miss out on their third driver as a result of RNG cruelty.
#33 - Red Bull Racing Africa, LMP2
Driver 1 - Tasmin Pepper
Driver 2 - Thomas Laurent
Driver 3 - TBC (12 Hours of Africa only, probably)
See comment on #31 car.
#55 - Fez MB Racing, LMP2
Driver 1 - Mehdi Bennani
Driver 2 - Michael Benyahia
Driver 3 - Mathias Beche (12 Hours of Africa only)
Three drivers unclaimed by other teams. However, Beche's schedule doing ELMS and WEC means he's only available for the 12 Hours of Africa.
#56? - Fez MB Racing, LMP3 (12 Hours of Africa only)
Driver 1 - Martin Brundle
Driver 2 - Mark Blundell
Driver 3 - Michael Bartels
Yep, the rules allow silly entries like this for the 12 Hours, and it's fully encouraged.

Big up the Kenyan dream team.
#75 - Sonangol Factory Racing, LMP2
Driver 1 - Ricardo Teixeira

#76 - Sonangol Factory Racing, LMP3
Driver 1 - Rui Andrade
Driver 2 - Fiorio de Souza
Driver 3 - Naomi Pitzer (12 Hours of Africa only)
Andrade chose Sonangol's drive over Red Bull, which means the 76 has a full driver lineup.
#89 - Wayne Taylor Racing, LMP2 (12 Hours of Africa only)
Driver 1 - Ricky Taylor
Driver 2 - Jordan Taylor
Driver 3 - Wayne Taylor
Again, three drivers who were only available for WTR, and only for this race.
#96 - Ferodo VDL, LMP2 (12 Hours of Africa only - unless someone signs up to manage the team.

The Kenya Times wrote:Hirani targeting home race for season 2
Local hero Tejas Hirani has reportedly opened negotiations with the local government of Nairobi and the organisers of the AfLMS to bring motor racing back to the East African nation which hasn’t seen active racing since Nakuru closed in the 1980’s.
Reporters of The Kenya Times have gotten hold of the proposal for a street race around the city centre with renowned race track designer Hermann Tilke reportedly involved in the design of the circuit.

Final pre-season RNG will occur at midnight tonight BST
Well I say RNG - currently it's just finalising the entry sheet. Then we can start with races and stuff

Re: African Le Mans Series
Second Driver RNG
Once again, there's not much RNG to do, but there is one really obvious team that needs some attention.
Pato O'Ward
In 2019, Pato O'Ward was signed for an IndyCar drive, then couldn't get the money together, then got picked up by Red Bull who got him a drive in Mahaveer Raghunathan's seat. Then they decided they didn't want him there, shifting him for a partial season of Super Formula before deciding the whole thing was pointless and letting him go when McLaren asked him to please return to IndyCar for them. Now Red Bull are asking for him back.
[list][*]1-10: It's a bit like IMSA right? And IMSA was a happy hunting ground for Pato, who often finished first out of two, three and occasionally as many as five Prototype Challenge cars.
[*]11-100: Let's be real, he's got a drive in IndyCar.
20 - It seems as though he really considered it, but maybe his WiFi was down.
Mattias Ekstrom
The 41-year-old Swede wins pretty much everything he touches, but he hasn't touched many racing series since he retired in 2018. Can he be tempted out of retirement for a Red Bull Racing Africa LMP2 drive?
[list][*]1-10: Sweden can get so cold when you're not throwing a rallycross car around it. Ekstrom figures "why not?"
[*]11-100: Ekstrom laughs for a good ten minutes at the idea of the offer before putting the phone down.
71 - Unfortunately it was never going to happen.
Frederic Fatien
GPXtreme tried to sign Stephen Simpson for this seat, but he was already in the United Autosport stable. So instead, gentleman Frenchman Frederic Fatien has been offered the chance to step up to a full season drive.
[list][*]1-50: No stranger to exotic endurance races, the former Dubai 24 Hour winner takes the drive.
[*]51-100: Well he's used to that, but just the one race will be enough Africa for Frederic
41 - He's been persuaded! GPXtreme will just need another driver to fill the third seat when the 12 Hours of Africa comes around.
I would go through and RNG the rest of it, but there's no real reason for people not to get who they want here.
#12 - GPXtreme gets to run Jefferies, von Moltke and Campbell in this car, no sweat.
#14 - And they get to run Grogor and Fatien in this car. Howver, it will not be the #40 because that's not how our numbering system works; they get the closest-sounding number to that.
#31 - Red Bull Racing Africa get Colin Braun for this seat...
#33 - ... and Robyn Kruger for this seat.
#55 - Matthew Brabham has won everything there is to win in... Stadium Super Trucks. He accepts the offer of a new challenge.
All of which means we now have our confirmed entry list for the 4 Hours of South Africa, coming once I've modified my race sheet to run endurance races.
