2018 FIA Prototype Challenge - The champions are...

Post by Normal32 »

Motorsport.com wrote:Prototype series revived by FIA
After the unexpected collapse of ACO Le Mans Cup, a group of investors bought its assets to revive the series, but under a different name, different type of races and is sanctioned by FIA. The series has been dubbed FIA Prototype Challenge, and its expected to start in 2018.

Welcome to a brand new series: the FIA Prototype Challenge! This series will fill the hole, hopefully, let by the collapse of LMC.

But before, dem rules:

1. Drivers
1.1 Drivers may be fictional only.
1.2 Drivers must have previous canon experience before entering the series.
1.3 If a driver replacement for an injury/ban has not been announced by the time i will run the next race, i reserve the right to choose a driver for you.

2. Teams
2.1 Teams may be entered from any nationality - dual nationality allowed.
2.2 There will be 13 teams, with 2 cars each.
2.3 Teams numbers will be chosen by you, with the exception of: 13, 17 and 4. However, Italian teams may choose the number 13.

3. Cars/Engines
3.1 Cars represent the grip of your car. They may be named whatever you want, but i reserve the right to kick out overly-stupid names.
3.2 Engines may be build from a manufacturer of your choice, and you can name the engine whatever you want, with same penalty. They represent BHP and reliability.
3.3 Before the season, you may choose a focus on either BHP, Reliability or Grip.
3.4 After the season, you may choose to either keep the car and engine, or make a new one from the ground-up. If you keep it, you will be given a boost before the season in a area of your choice.

4. Races
4.1 Each weekend feature a single race.
4.2 Qualifying will be two sessions.
4.3 Points system will pick up from SARS.

Vic Sunset wants to comfirm if Mont Blanc Racing is still providing him with a seat in prototype racing after the collapse of ACO. His drive in IPC was to be provided by Mont Blanc Racing until a prototype series appeared again.

I wasn't sure which offers were still standing with the re-arranging of championships, so yeah, deal. But the question was also if you need Dennis' services somewhere.

I was quite probably going to offer him a seat in 2018 in GT-R, but that doesn't seem to exist anymore, so no worries about sending him elsewhere.

Rejectsport wrote:LMP: Nissan announce veteran lineup for fresh LMP campaign

Nissan Motorsport have announced a second attempt at resurrecting their LMP programme, announcing a brand new project dubbed R392, and a veteran driving lineup for their two cars.

The brand new machines will be piloted by F1RWRS veterans Hagane Shizuka and Ron Mignolet, who have a combined 174 appearances in the single seater series. Shizuka has long been a target for Nissan, having been originally chased to lead their aborted LMP comeback last year before renewing with Kamaha for a final season in top flight single seaters.

Mignolet meanwhile rejoins familiar territory, having driven for the Voeckler racing firm that has been tasked with running the new Nissan LMP venture during his time in F1RWRS.

Unsurprisingly, Shizuka has been awarded the marque's good luck charm, running with the coveted #23 on his car for the upcoming season.

In other news - to differentiate it from the 2015 engine, as we're 3 years down the line with a new LMP project, the new engine shall be the Nissan VRX32A 3.2 L V6 (Twin-Turbo)

The Grenada Informer wrote:Bovy heading to prototypes with MK Scuderia?

There are rumours abound that national treasure John Bovy, who previously competed in the pinnacle of motorsport, Formula 1, will return to the headlines with a turn in the newly established FIA Prototype Challenge.

Bovy, who has spent the past few years in tin-top racing as part of the GT-R World Championship, is hotly tipped to join the MK Scuderia team, having narrowly lost out to former F1RWRS racer Andrea Battani for a spot with the works Mazda squad.

Bovy is now expected to sign with the British outfit in the coming days, with the newcomers widely expected to secure another former F1RWRS racer, Brucie Kibbutz, for their other seat. A sighting of Bovy's agent, Frederic-Maxime Voeckler, heading through Heathrow yesterday, has only further fuelled speculation that a deal is on the verge of completion.

Because GT-R seems to have died, anyone want to hire former F1RWRS driver Andrea Battani

Sure, I'd be happy to give Battani a shot in the #20...

Battani would definitely accept the offer, sounds good

Autosport wrote:Jones miffed at missing entry but plans for the future

Sammy Jones has stated his disappointment at missing the entry deadline for the FIA's new Prototype Challenge series. It's known that Jones himself was keen on seeing a series started after his team manufactured an LMP2-compliant chassis in preparation for the cancelled Le Mans Cup of 2017. It's believed that there as many as five Jones 111 type chassis currently in storage at the Banbury facility.

Despite missing out for 2018 however, Jones is still aiming to enter the series at the earliest opportunity,

"We have it on good authority that we are top of the list of teams waiting to enter, so I've given the green light to begin development on a new car, ready for when we get the nod from the FIA. The 111 was set to be a promising car but we can't simply use that, it will likely be at least two years old by the time we get to the grid so a whole new concept is required. I've always enjoyed prototype endurance racing, and it's no secret that I would have driven the Jones entry in the Le Mans Cup had it not been shelved. Depending on circumstances, I may dust off the helmet this time as well!"

Jochen Märko, 2nd place in RTSS overall, is available to hire. His only clashing commitment, the Czech Republic round of GBRC, will be cancelled if an offer is forthcoming for his services.

Also a reminder that John Bovy, formerly of Formula 1, GT-R, and Touring Car Masters, is still available to hire.

Gia Van Dycke has found Jesus and he told him to become Gio again. He has started a course to become a priest.

Also he has plenty of experience in pretty much all kind of racing series. And a driver who is blessed by Jesus can't possibly be bad, right?

Rejectsport wrote:Bovy confirmed as MKS lead driver

British team Milton Keynes Scuderia have finalised their line-up for the upcoming debut season of the FIA Prototype Challenge, with Grenadian driver John Bovy taking their lead #56 car, alongside Israeli pilot Brucie Kibbutz.

Both Bovy and Kibbutz have experience in the top flight of motor racing, with Bovy previously being a member of the Formula 1 circus, while Kibbutz raced for F1's main rival AutoReject World Series in the past.

"I am very happy to race in prototypes with MK Scuderia," said Bovy. "There is promise here. The facilities look good, right in the centre of motorsport valley, a relationship with Ford, and drivers hired for their ability rather than money, as many other teams are often tempted to do. We can build a good future together."

"We will have to wait until pre-season testing to understand where we are relative to everyone else. But from my first impressions, MK Scuderia have a good chance of being quite competitive from the outset."

Bovy has been out of single seaters for some time, more recently dabbling in heavier cars like GTs and NASCAR-style pickup trucks. Despite this, he has no concerns about adapting to the faster, lightweight prototypes.

"It's like riding a bike - you never unlearn it," said Bovy, on his ability in racing powerful lightweight cars. "Prototype races are much longer than the average single seater race, so this time I've spent in things like sportscars and trucks has helped me become a bit more focused on driving consistently."

"But that doesn't mean at all that I've lost my touch! The prototypes will be far different to what I've driven recently, that's true, but I don't think it will take much more than a couple of pre-season tests to get back into the groove with the characteristics of LMPs."

Skilled F1RWRS racer and Sandwich 17/18 champion, Barii Mori is looking for a part time drive, currently in F5000 and willing to do all races that do not clash.
