Changes for 2014
- NewGP2 is born! Twelve more teams are joining the fray (the real life 2014 teams minus Campos, who must debut at GP3 level), with Carlin and Russian Time promoted to F1 and Marussia and Scorpion relegated to join DAMS, Hilmer and the like.
- NewGP2 will race at every F1 event, at 75% of the F1 race distance. Races will generally be 1-2 pit stops.
- The same points system will be used for both categories as 2013.
- EQ8 Caterham Racing must change their name, as affiliated teams are not allowed. (I suggest just making it EQ8 Racing but it's up to the team owner at the end of the day)
- Test drivers can no longer be snapped up by other teams without consent of the team they have a contract with (I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that rule)
- However, drivers can now be loaned out to other teams. The loan period can be cancelled by either team without notice, and a driver may only race for one team per weekend. This will allow test/reserve drivers contracted to F1 teams to race for GP2 teams to gain race experience.
- Chassis will be developed before the season, and will work similar to the upgrade system from last season - more on this once we have contracts etc. sorted
- Upgrades will also work the same way, however once per year each team may use a "Joker card", where the upgrade is almost guaranteed to succeed. It's up to the team when they choose to play their card!

Re: 2014 NewF1/NewGP2 Silly Season - Tristan/Onxy + 1 free e
Just waiting on Tristan, Onxy and apple2009 to confirm their entries, plus I still have one spare slot available even if all those players confirm.
As I want to get driver contract negotiation under way soon I'll wait 36 hours then will temporarily take control of any teams without players, if required.

I wouldn't usually let users choose their teams, but I'll agree to that as they're not exactly powerhouse GP2 teams and you've been a long supporter of the series. You're in!

In that case I pick Lazarus. We're now accepting any and all paydrivers who want a few events in a GP2 car

Re: 2014 NewF1/NewGP2 Silly Season - 2 spots left
OK, while I don't have a full complement of players as yet I'd like to get the game moving, so it's time to assign teams to everyone and then you can post your plans for the season.
Teams:
As Onxy Wrecked and apple2009 have not posted, they have been removed from the waiting list. Tristan1117 also has not posted to confirm he will be returning to run Mercedes, but he'll keep the team unless his absence stretches on for a long time. Therefore the RNG gods (with a little help from Wizzie) have spoken, and teams will be run by the following:
Russian Time - V8fan12
Racing Engineering - andrew
DAMS - VACANT
ART Grand Prix - mrfakeboullier
Hilmer Motorsport - Miguel98
Rapax - Normal32
Arden International - Bleu
EQ8 Racing - VACANT
MP Motorsport - RedEyes504
Trident Racing - Julien
Team Lazarus - Wizzie
V8fan is the lucky one to take the step up to F1 in his first season, taking Russian Time. If you are unhappy with your team and would like to take one of the vacant spots please post your intentions - first in best dressed.
Now that everyone has a team, you need to post your full team name.
Full team name: (Include sponsorship if you'd like, this is just for aesthetic reasons but I'll veto any unrealistic sponsors)
Chassis development:
This works similar to upgrades throughout the season, except on a larger scale. Instead of only being able to upgrade one area, reliability, race pace and quali pace are all upgraded. (I have excluded tyre life and pit stops - as these are only available to upgrade mid-season)
The degree of of each upgrade must then be chosen, as per the following:
- Very conservative - very high chance of success, very small gains
- Conservative - high chance of success, small gains
- Standard - average chance of success, average gains
- Radical - low chance of success, high gains
- Very radical - very low chance of success, very high gains
So an example of what a team may go for is below:
- Reliability - standard
- Race pace - radical
- Qualifying pace - conservative
Depending on where the team finished in the previous system is how powerful the upgrades are (although chance of success is the same for all teams), and also teams that were promoted will receive more powerful upgrades than other teams to reflect the sponsorship money injection. To make things more interesting, teams that were relegated last season also receive a bonus, similar to a "parachute payment" in the English Football League.
Engines:
Teams may stick with their existing engine deals (including Mecachrome for teams from GP2), but if they wish to change to a new engine supplier the following rules must be followed:
Change to existing F1/GP2 supplier (such as switching from Mercedes to Ferrari, or from Renault to Mecachrome): Chassis development must have at least one Radical or Very Radical change, and may not have anything more conservative than Standard for the other parameters.
Change to a new supplier (such as switching to Honda): Chassis development parameters must all be Radical or Very Radical.
Develop in-house engine (for customer teams) / take full control of engine development (works teams): Chassis development parameters must all be Very Radical, but team takes full control of engine development, can choose who they supply etc.
Each engine supplier now has their own hidden parameters, and their decisions are controlled by RNG (unless anyone decides to take control of engine development). They may refuse teams, but in most cases this is unlikely unless people try something illogical.
Driver contracts:
Many teams have drivers with expired contracts. Obviously these need to be ratified before the start of the season, but can wait until after the test days if teams wish to take the risk of missing out on all the good drivers. Don't forget that teams can loan drivers to other teams, so GP2 teams that miss out on drivers will still have the option to negotiate with other team owners if they are interested in temporarily signing their reserve drivers. Offers should be made in the following format:
Note, if drivers have signed a Test with Loan Option contract, they will accept any loans (within reason), but if they have any other type of contract they may refuse to go on loan.
So to recap, post your full team name, your chassis plans, engine plans and driver contract plans.
Any questions?
Code: Select all
Driver name:
Role: (No. 1, No. 2, Equal driver, Test, Test with loan option)
Contract length:
Clauses:
Note, if drivers have signed a Test with Loan Option contract, they will accept any loans (within reason), but if they have any other type of contract they may refuse to go on loan.
So to recap, post your full team name, your chassis plans, engine plans and driver contract plans.

So GP2 teams all use the same engine and can't adjust it in any way? Just wanna make sure.

Nope, same rules apply for them as F1, so Scorpion can stick with Cosworth, switch to another supplier, bring in a new supplier or create an in-house engine.

What will the suppliers be for GP2? This would be the first season where they won't all just use Mecachromes, so what would be available?
Your latest setup post says that we need to announce what drivers and engines we will be using, but we don't know what's even available for either formula in regards to engines...

Sorry if it wasn't clear, the same suppliers that supplied F1 teams in 2013, plus Mecachrome are counted as existing suppliers and are available to all teams, both F1 and GP2. But you can also approach any real life engine manufacturer (such as Honda, Chevrolet etc) or build in house. Hope that makes sense?
Normal32 that entry looks fine, but don't forget to post engine plans. Great to see Life back in motorsport! Also, are they still based in Malaysia?

Sorry that's actually not possible, if you build in-house engines you need to set each parameter for chassis to Very Radical - are you ok with that or do you want to choose another engine?
If Life plans to build their own engines, they will be available as a supplier to any other teams (come on Red Bull, we know you want to become Red Bull-Life!) that they agree to deal with. If any teams decide to go with them, they are classed as a new engine supplier as it is their first season, so make sure your chassis plans reflect that as per the rules for new suppliers.
Just a reminder of the engine rules:
Stick with current engine supplier - Chassis development is unaffected.
Change to existing F1/GP2 supplier (such as switching from Mercedes to Ferrari, or from Renault to Mecachrome): Chassis development must have at least one Radical or Very Radical change, and may not have anything more conservative than Standard for the other parameters.
