Mclaren wasn't satisfied with Oliver Rowland, were they.

"The Dutch driver will be managed by Anthony Hamilton"...

WTF? Why? Does he not have his own dad to annoy people with?

Soppose it would help with ballast distribution in the car if they could get him into F1. OF course he is too young, so maybe he could be chriogenically frozen at the Mclaren labs then defrosten so he technically meets the criteria.

What I find disturbing is the disturbingly adult-sounding quote, at 14 all I could talk about was boobs and trading cards - not using words like resources and framework?! Maybe he has already been subject to some 'development' at the technology centre?

"My visit to the McLaren Technology Centre has been a fantastic experience and I am very honoured and grateful for the support of McLaren in helping to develop my career.

"The resources they have are incredible, and I believe they'll be able to provide me with the perfect framework for improving my skills, my fitness and my motorsport experience."

phew, must be publicocrap. I was worried there was a human rights issue here. I've always thought Martin Whitmarsh looks dead behind the eyes.

McLaren signed a 14 year old? Again? What happened to Oliver Roland?

I know that aspiring racing drivers have to start young these days, and also be well-supported through the junior formulae in order to have much hope of getting to the top, but still, am I the only one who feels a bit disturbed seeing stories like this and seeing such PR-spun quotes attributed to a 14 year old?

Lost childhood, anyone? :?

I agree Enoch, this sort of thing does remind me of those Russian gymnasts who from the age of 3 lived under spartan conditions to fulfil the dreams of people around them. I mean 14??? Let him live, let him find about girls and booze before he enrols on such a serious career path.

They're clearly wasting their time; as anyone who's read the Rejectful Karting thread will know, I have only lost one karting race from 6 started, giving me a winning percentage of 83%. This (probably) makes me the hottest prospect yet - despite the fact that I haven't been in a kart in, ooooh, five years now. :D

In which case he is more than welcome to swap places with me. I'd rather have enough backing to race anything I'd like.
Yes, I'm that boring.

At least you should have discovered the magics of alcohol and good-looking girls, even if only superficially...

He may end up being an F1 driver - he'll have plenty of time for girls and booze later in life. He'll have been an F1 driver.

You may be surprised to know I have experience of both. And still want to trade it for racing :D

No, it was only you said your life was boring. I think I'd find time for everything should I turn into a racing driver. Raikkonen did indeed
