USA GP - Round 2/16 - Combined Times and Grid

Rhys Davies starts on pole with Roos Beside him and his team mate behind him. Dan Unser Jr will be hoping for more retirements and spins as he is well placed in 5th with White doing another excellent job for JLD. Benetton and European go two by two. Melrose will be disappointed not to get into the 1:15s. Patrese will be hoping for better things and is front of the two Phoenix cars, Vitkin hoping that he will not crash or be t-boned again. Koczo will be disappointed with 15th. Gottorp and Mallon will be pleased with their positions and hoping for minor points. Waladi, Winson and Blackwell all failing to impress being well behind their team mates. Briggs is only a few tenths down to her team mate and will be hoping for a much better result. Lavezzi is a second down to his team mate and will be hoping for a miracle. Mann will be pleased to qualify well ahead of the two russian bears cars. Macklin will be on report for his DNQ and Schussler will be wondering why he kept going slower the whole weekend. Clio will be hard done by not getting out of prequalifying, with Hungrian Life, Zimsport and Welsh MRA rounding out the other non prequalifiers. Mils and Gawron excluded as they serve their suspensions.

We are absolutely satisfied with this result and we'd like to wish good luck for both drivers in the race. Hopefully our strategy is going to work out fine, but the Fighting Mongooses team can not be written down that easily. We'd like to see a fair race.

USA GP - Round 2/16 - Race Commentary

This commentary makes War and Peace look like a booklet.

The cars line up, a man at the back waves a flag, the red lights go on and the green lights go on and we are away.

Davies, Roos, Mitchell, McReynolds all make reasonable starts and get away well. White gets away well as is up to 5th.

Unser Jr makes a good start but has a slower McReynolds in front of him and slows down, Nicolo who makes a great start, cuts in front of him and Jones who also was speedy off the line is by his side. Kickert makes a great start and is past Nash. Patrese keeps to the outside and makes up lots of places. Nash goes to the centre and Kickert overtakes on the left. Unser Jr slows down as not to crash into White but Kickert goes to the right, Nash jinks right but Patrese is to his right and he touches the back wheels of Kickert and goes into the air slightly. Kickert Spins and Nicolo and Unser Jr have to go wide into the run off area. Kickert hits the wall but suffers no damage.

Nash recovers and manages to make the corner. Unser Jr also manages to make the corner but Melrose sweeps left and they touch, no damage thankfully. Koczo manges to keep his head and climbs to 10th.

However what is that? At the back of the grid Sarkozy makes a fantastic start and weaves past lots of traffic and keeps his nerve. Already up to 20th and the first corner has not even come up. Passes some of the people that had issues and by Corner 2 he is up to 15th, a fantastic start.

By corner 2 the order is

1 - Davies (-)
2 - Roos (-)
3 - Mitchell (-)
4 - McReynolds (-)
5 - White (+1)
6 - Jones (+3)
7 - Patrese (+6)
8 - Nash (-)
9 - Fleet (+3)
10- Koczo (+6)
11- Melrose (-)
12- Groves (+2)
13- Unser Jr (-8)
14- Vitkin (+1)
15- Sarkozy (+11)
16- Waladi (+3)
17- Von Gottrop (-)
18- Blackwell (+3)
19- Mann (+5)
20- Winson (-)
21- Briggs (+1)
22- Mallon (-6)
23- Lavezzi (-)
24- Buyvolov (+1)
25- Nicolo (-18)
26- Kickert (-16)

Jones by corner 4 is up a place as is Nash. McReynolds is challenging Mitchell and I can see an overtake sooner rather then later.

At the end of Lap 1 the order is

Davies
Roos +0.81
Mitchell +1.87
McReynolds +2.07
Jones +3.95
White +4.11
Nash +5.34
Patrese +6.52
Fleet +8.29
Koczo +9.85
Melrose +9.99
Unser Jr +10.17
Groves +11.23
Vitkin +11.40
Sarkozy +13.09
Von Gottrop +13.2
Waladi +13.4
Blackwell +13.7
Winson +14.1
Mann +14.3
Briggs +14.4
Lavezzi +15.7
Nicolo +16.0
Mallon +17.2
Bugvolov +18.2
Kickert +19.0

Lap 2

Patrese gets it very wrong at turn 7 and spins, dropping to dead last.
At the pit straight, McReynolds takes Mitchell and Melrose over takes Koczo.

Lap 3

Koczo continues to fall back and is now in 11th behind Unser Jr, Vitkin is overtaken by team mate groves before Von Gottrop barges past to take 13th. Sarkozy is now in 16th, his car not havnig the grunt to stop faster cars taking him on the straights. Nicolo fights back up the pack.

Lap 4

Standings are

Davies
Roos +2.90
McReynolds +4.31
Mitchell +6.26
Jones +8.92
White +9.04
Nash +9.97
Fleet +15.24
Melrose +15.41
Unser Jr +17.45
Koczo +20.69
Grove +20.86
Vitkin +23.18
Von Gottorp +24.62
Waladi +25.36
Winson +27.7
Briggs +28.7
Nicolo +29.9
Sarkozy +30.6
Lavezzi +31.3
Blackwell +31.4
Kickert +31.6
Mann +31.9
Buyvolov +32.9
Patrese +33.3
Mallon +33.7

Lap 5

Melrose can smell Fleet but runs wide but catches it. Kickert overtakes Blackwell.

Lap 6

Roos is trying to keep the gap to Davies to a minimum but he tries far too hard and clips a wall on the pit enterance and before the end of the pit straight his suspension fails, he pulls over to the side and is pushed into the wall by McReynolds who does not seem him as he turns into the first corner, McReynolds is fine but Roos is out.

Lap 7

White finally clears Jones for 4th and Nicolo takes Winson to climb to 15th.

The order is

Davies
McReynolds +6.53
Mitchell +8.21
White +12.65
Jones +13.47
Nash +14.36
Fleet +19.97
Melrose +20.14
Unser Jr +20.83
Groves +25.47
Koczo +27.00
Vitkin +27.16
Von Gottorp +30.01
Waladi +30.94
Nicolo +33.14
Briggs
Winson
Kickert
Lavezzi
Blackwell
Sarkozy
Patrese
Mann
Buyvolov
Mallon

Mitchell goes wide into turn 7, he spins and destorys his rear wing. Will this cost him a podium? He is sideways on the track but off the racing line. He waits for the field of cars to pass him so he can spin safely around. At the back Mann and Buyvolov are very close, they come to turn 7, Mann slows and Buyvolov with nowhere to go, goes wide and smashes into Mitchell, tyres go flying off Mitchells car and he is out, Buyvolov is safe but now in last place. The tight nature of this track does mean that it looks like a racing incident.

Lap 9

Nicolo passes Waladi and is up to 13th, but he is still 37 seconds behind the leader and 20 seconds behind his team mate.

Briggs gets it wrong at turn 8 and spins into the run off area. She drops from 15th to 24th and last.

Lap 10

Nikolas Sarkozy is now in 20th, his engine just not having the puff to keep up.

A close battle between Fleet, Melrose and Unser Jr for 6th just four tenths seperate them.

The top 15 are

Davies
McReynolds +8.65
White +17.42
Jones +19.87
Nash +20.14
Fleet +27.02
Melrose +27.21
Unser Jr +27.42
Groves +34.08
Vitkin +35.48
Koczo +37.72
Von Gottrop +39.63
Nicolo +39.82
Waladi +41.92
Kickert +43.40

Melrose challenges Fleet but thinks better of it but then Unser Jr dives in and passes Melrose in a fantastic overtake at the end of the pit straight.

Nicolo has the same idea and dives to the inside and takes Von Gottrop to move to 12th.

Unser Jr is not finished yet and takes Fleet at the end of Turn 8, fantastic!

Lap 11

Kickert takes waladi at the end of the pit straight to mvoe to 14th.

Lap 12

Melrose finally takes fleet into turn 8

Mann cocks up turn 8 and gets taken by Mallon and drops to 21st.

Lap 13

Kickert gets the jump on Von Gottrop to climb to 13th. Nicolo does the same to Koczo just before the final hairpin to climb to 11th.

Lap 15

Lavezzi clips the wall at turn 10 and spins and gets hit by Mallon who does not see him, Lavezzi loses his front wing and will have to visit the pits. Mallon is fine but loses a place to Mann, Briggs overtakes Buyvolov in the confusion. Lavezzi is in 24th and is is the first man to be lapped.

Lap 16

Davies comes up to Buyvolov to lap him. Nicolo is close behind Vitkin and Groves and at the end of the pit straight, Nicolo dives past Vitkin like he was not there.

Lap 17

The lap order is.

Davies
McReynolds +11.38
White +24.24
Jones +30.18
Nash +30.42
Unser Jr +36.11
Melrose +37.98
Fleet +41.59
Groves +49.55
Nicolo +49.91
Vitkin +50.96
Kickert +52.83
Koczo +57.47

Patrese +1:08.8
Blackwell +1:13.4
Sarkozy +1L
Briggs +1L
Mann +1L
Mallon +1L
Buyvolov +1L
Lavezzi +1L

Briggs takes Mann to move into the dizzy heights of 20th. In turn 3, Nash finally gets past Jones to take 4th.

The Fighting Mongoose team have their heads in their hands as they know that the engine on McReynolds car will expire and at the end of Turn 8 it does. Disappointment once again.

Lap 18

Briggs passes Sarkozy for 19th. Soon Mann is all over the backside of Sarkozy. Nicolo passes Grooves on the pit straight. Kickert passes Vitkin on turn 8.

Lap 20

Melrose gets a puncture and retires from 6th place, he will be disappointed.

Lap 21

Kickert passes Groves to take 8th. Patrese takes Winson to move to 14th.

Lap 22

Lap order is

Davies
White +27.58

Unser Jr +40.45
Fleet +48.94
Nicolo +54.84
Kickert +59.29

Lap 24

Everyone to Waladi (13th) has been lapped. Vitkin makes a brave pass on Groves.

lap 25

Vitkin comes to the first to pit. He comes in 9th and leaves 15th, with the stop taking 9.1 seconds. He looks like he is on a 3 stopper.

Lap 27

Briggs pits from 17th place, takes 9.7 seconds in the pits and leaves in 22nd place.

Lap 28

Davies has lapped everyone up to Von Gottorp. Oh no, disaester, but you knew it would happen, Davies has an Engine problem, he has been working that Engine hard and in the heat of Phoenix you know it would cause an issue. He is still running but is slowing.

Von Gottorp passes but makes a hash of it and spins, oh my goodness Davies smacks Von Gottorp but they both seem okay. Von Gottorp drops to 15th place from 11th.

Davies continues around the track until finally he gets a box of neutrals and pulls over to the side of the track, he gets out of the car and looks upset with himself.

Lavezzi pits from 17th, takes 9.5 seconds and is in 22nd position.

Koczo in 10th, gets it wrong at turn 8 and spins, damages his front wing when trying to spin around. Destroys it even more when spinning again. He will be going to the pits.

He also manages to get in the way and be on the racing line and causes Waladi, Vitkin, Patrese, Winson, Von Gottorp and Blackwell to go into the escape road. It ends up with the order being Vitkin, Winson, Patrese, Von Gottorp, Waladi and Koczo (although he will have to pit). Blackwell gets stuck and gets overtaken to 21st. Will be 20th when he overtakes Koczo in pits.

Lap 29

Kickert pits from 7th, takes 10 seconds and ends up 8th.

Lap 30

Lap 31

Briggs takes Mann for 16th.

White comes into the pits from 1st, taking a slow 10.6 seconds and ends up in 4th.

Nicolo passes Fleet for 5th an amazing comeback, is a podium possible?

Briggs passes Sarkozy for 14th.

Lap 32

Nash
Jones +4.31
Unser Jr +10.94
White +13.88
Nicolo +17.12
Fleet +19.36
Groves
Kickert
Vitkin
Winson
Patrese
Von Gottorp
Waladi
Briggs -1L
Sarkozy -1L
Mallon -1L
Mann -1L
Buyvolov -1L
Blackwell -1L
Koczo -1L
Lavezzi -2L

Kickert has an Electrical problem and will have to come into the pits. He drops to 9th.

L33

Mann goes wide at Turn 8 and Mallon dives in to take 15th.

Sarkozy pits from 15th, takes 9.7 seconds and drops to 21st (or last).

L34

White is all over the back of Unser Jr. Will he take 3rd? Down the back straight he late brakes, dives to the inside and takes Unser Jr for 3rd. Could he see the top step?

Nash makes a clumsy mistake to try and lap Waladi, he tries to do it at the final hairpin but understeers into the wall and clouts it hard but there is no damage, however he will be hoping his suspension does not collapse.

Lap 35

Kickert takes Vitkin at turn 8 for 8th.

The top 8 order is

Nash
Jones +3.82
White +10.04
Unser Jr +11.25
Nicolo +17.20
Fleet +21.75
Groves +37.93
Kickert +55.63

Lap 37

White is on a charge and is now only 7.70 seconds behind Nash and only 3.6 behind Jones.

Blackwell is challenging Buyvolov, but just can not find a way past.

Groves comes into the pits from 7th, it is a long stop pf 13.1 seconds, could he be on a one stop? He emerges 9th a long way ahead of Patrese.

Lap 38

Waladi pits from 13th and a lap down, he takes 13.0 seconds for a probable one stop and is now in 17th.

What is Winson doing? He wobbles from side to side a few times and makes a cock up of Turn 6 having to correct himself.

Nash leads
Jones +4.41
White +6.25
Unser Jr +10.87
Nicolo +17.63
Fleet +23.23
Kickert +50.97
Groves +1:00.40

Mann pits from 17th, takes 12.8 seconds and leaves in 21st and last.

Nash blinks and pits from 1st, he is already down to 3rd can he get out in front of Fleet? His crew take 12.5 seconds and it looks like a one stopper. He comes out in 4th but Fleet whizzs past him.

Lap 39

Jones leads but has White breathing down his neck. Surely Jones will try to make his car the widest car in on track to stop White getting an advantage?

Unser Jr comes into the pits from 4th, taking 12.6 seconds and coming out in 6th place.

Von Gottorp pits from 11th, takes 12.6 seconds and comes out in 14th

Waladi takes Lavezzi for 16th.

Nicolo pits from 3rd, his crew takes 12.5 seconds and he should come out in 6th place behind Unser Jr.

Lap 40

Buyvolov pits from the lonely place of 19th, he surely will come out in last, he does, but his crew are professional and do his one stopper in 12.5 seconds.

White has a look on the back straight but can not get an advantage.

Patrese pits from 10th, his crew take 12.2 seconds and he emerges in 11th place.

Jones pits from 1st, his crew a little slow taking 12.3 seconds, he should come out in 3rd and indeed he does.

Lap 41

Fleet is enjoying 3rd but Nash is all over him like a rash. Takes him a few corners from the pits.

Koczo pits from 13th, takes 12.3 seconds and exits in 16th place

Fleet pits from 4th, takes 12.1 seconds and is slowed in the pitlane by Lavezzi. He emerges in 7th place.

Lavezzi has an Electrical problem and will have to pit, will he take fuel on as well? As he will not have enough fuel to get to the end of the race. He pits from 17th, the crew just fix the problem and take 8.7 seconds and he comes out in 19th

Blackwell pits from 18th, it has been a miserable afternoon for him, his stop takes 12.5 seconds and he comes out in 20th place.

Winson pits from 10th, he takes 12.3 seconds and comes out in 13th place.

Lap 42

Mallon pits from 14th, he takes 12.2 seconds and comes out in 17th.

White is 19.01 seconds ahead of Nash, can he build a lead so he can keep it when he has to make his 2nd stop?

Buyvolov is very close to Blackwell, but he loses it in turn 8, smacks into the run off area wall but is unharmed.

Lap 43

White increases his lead to 20.84 second.

Lavezzi takes Mann for 18th place.

Lap 44

The order is

White
Nash +20.57
Jones +24.91
Unser Jr +30.64
Nicolo +33.80
Kickert +43.89
Fleet +46.95
Vitkin +1:05.79

Blackwell in 20th place has found some pace and is trying to unlap himself against Groves.

Lap 45

Nicolo loses it at the famous turn 8, he manages to keep the car away from the walls, Waladi in 14th and who was not that far behind has to drive quite close to the wall to avoid him, a fast Koczo, who is still a lap down an in 15th place, comes up whilst Nicolo spins and tries to move off as he knows that Kickert in 6th is not far behind. Nicolo dangerously drives in front of Koczo who brakes and Kickert has to do the same behind Koczo. I can see the stewards looking at that one again.

Down the road, Waladi was very unbalanced and unsteers at Turn 9, smacking the wall very hard and losing a tyre, he will be retiring.

In 11th, Von Gottrop has a transmission failure and retires at the end of the pit straight, he will be disappointed as points were a possibility.

Lap 46

White comes across Buyvolov to lap him again.

The running order is

White
Nash +20.13
Jones +25.35
Unser Jr +30.28
Nicolo +43.07
Kickert +44.90
Fleet +46.77
Vitkin +1:08.87
Grove +1:09.58
Patrese -1L (+30.5)
Winson -1L (+11.6)
Briggs -1L (+1.8)
Koczo -1L (+16.3)
Mallon -1L (+10.1)
Sarkozy -1L (+1.4)
Lavezzi -1L (+0.4)
Mann -1L (+7.2)
Blackwell -1L (+4.5)
Buyvolov -1L (+19.2)

Douglas Mann spins at turn 2 and loses 17th to Blackwell. Groves uses the confusion to dive in and overtake Vitkin for the final points position.

Lap 47

White comes into the pits, one eye is in the pit and the other is on Nash. It is quite a slow stop, 11.5 seconds. He leaves his pit box and is still in the lead but Nash is already on the pit straight and whizzs past before White gets to the pit exit. Jones is only 4.9 seconds behind Nash and has too much speed over White. But he is only a second behind at the first corner. Can he make his fresher tyres work for him?

Lavezzi wants to overtake Sarkozy and tries to take him on the outside of the final hairpin but messes up and spins but avoids the wall. He will have lost tons of time there.

Blackwell unlaps himself agianst Vitkin, who must have shot soft tyres, he should be coming in for his 2nd pit stop soon.

Vitkin comes into the pits for his probable final stop, he comes in 9th has quite a slow 11.2 second stop and comes back in 9th ahead of Patrese.

White can smell Jones as he is so near, an overtake soon surely?

Lap 48

White senses 2nd and tries to overtake on the pit straight and the back straight but just doesn't have enough power to power past.

Kickert enters the pits from 6th, he is bound to lose 6th to Fleet. He takes 11.2 seconds and rejoins in 7th.

Lap 49

Nash is coming up to lap Patrese who is currently 10th.

Lap 50 (31 laps to go)

Nash
Jones +3.85
White +3.99
Unser Jr +10.45
Nicolo +21.20
Fleet +26.74
Kickert +47.24
Groves +56.14
Vitkin +1:15.076
Patrese +1:22.193
Winson +1L
Briggs +1L
Koczo +1L
Mallon +1L
Sarkozy +1L
Lavezzi +1L
Blackwell +1L
Mann +1L
Buyvolov +1L

Briggs, Sarkozy and Lavezzi all need to pit again.

Lap 52

White is still trying to pash Jones and both are catching Nash who is now only +3.03 ahead.

Briggs Pits from 12th, takes 12.6 seconds and drops to 13th.

Lap 53

Lavezzi pits from 15th, takes 10.7 seconds and drops to 16th

Sarkozy pits from 16th, takes 10.6 seconds and drops to 19th

Nash overtakes Patrese, everyone up to 9th has been lapped.

The order is

Nash
Jones +2.58
White +2.77
Unser Jr +10.28
Nicolo +19.87
Fleet +27.73
Kickert +
Groves
Vitkin
Patrese
Winson
Koczo
Briggs
Mallon
Blackwell
Lavezzi
Mann
Buyvolov
Sarkozy

There are not many battles the best being for 2nd and 3rd against Jones and White and from 16th to 19th with Lavezzi, mann, Buyvolov and Sarkozy.

Lap 54

Sarkozy overtakes Buyvolov for 18th. However once he gets to the pit straight a electrical failure robs him of all power and he slows down and keeps to the left to get to the run off area to retire.

He is passed by Buyvolov, he comes up to the outside racing line and Nash and Patrese do see him and slow and overtake on the right. White and Jones are still battling, White again tries to overtake and pulls out to the right. Jones goes over to defend his line and comes back to the left and he just must have not seen Sarkozy and he rams straight into him and destroys his nose cone. Sarkozy is pushed into the run off area and stops. White is now 2nd.

Lap 55

Nash laps Buyvolov for the second time and white does so soon after.

Unser Jr overtakes Jones before he gets into the pits. Jones comes into the pits from 4th and will be hoping to get out in front of Fleet in 6th. 9.7 seconds to change the nose. However Fleet takes 5th and Jones is in 6th.

White is closing up quickly to Nash, fingernails are being chewed on the European and JLD pitwalls.

Lap 56

White is only a tenth behind Nash, can Nash keep his car wide? Corner 4 and White breeze past Nash to retake the lead. Foots will be a bouncing in the JLD pitwall.

Lap 57

Jones catches and passes Fleet on the back straight. He is 10 seconds behind he team mate with less then 24 laps to go.

The order is

White
Nash +1.91
Unser Jr +8.39
Nicolo +18.17
Jones +26.62
Fleet +28.11
Kickert +35.83
Groves +1:02.60

Lap 60

White
Nash +2.84
Unser Jr +10.34
Nicolo +19.22
Jones +21.66
Fleet +31.01
Kickert +35.53
Grove +1:06.78
Vitkin +1:16.14
Patrese +1L (+17.4)

Mallon +1L (+10.5)
Blackwel +1L (+20.7)
Lavezzi +1L (+3.0)
Mann +2L +(19.6)
Buyvolov +2L (+5.1)

Mann gets a puncture, gets to turn 8 and smashes into the wall destroying his front wing and nose cone.

Lap 62

Jones has Nicolo in his sights, can he overtake or will he have to follow team orders? Less then a second is between them.

Lap 63

Nash has been told to push and finally gains some time, although he is still 2.6 seconds behind. Jones is now on the rear wing of Nicolo. Down the back straight Jones just powers past Nicolo. Jones is too far to get back into a podium place, or is he?

Lap 64

The order is

White
Nash +2.36
Unser Jr +10.29
Jones +17.78
Nicolo +20.52
Fleet +32.74

Patrese +1L
Winson +1L
Briggs +1L
Koczo +1L
Mallon +1L
Blackwell +1L
Lavezzi +1L
Buyvolov +2L

The only battles at the moment are White and Nash, Briggs and Winson and lastly Blackwell and Lavezzi.

Lap 65

Nash is soo close now, he comes down the pit straight and picks off White before he gets to the corner. Does White have a problem? Or has white just burnt his tyres?

Vitkin just does not have any luck, Lavezzi spins in front of him in turn 3 and committed to the corner he has no choice but to hit Lavezzi and ends up with a damaged front wing, Lavezzi seems fine. To add insult to injury, he has now been lapped by Nash and White.

Jones understeers into the hairpin and runs very wide. Nicolo sees his chance and retakes his 4th place.

At the end of thepit straight, Jones is catching Patrese and should lap him soon. Patrese overcooks it and spins, Jones blind comes around the corner and smacks into Patrese, Jones has a front wing broken, Patrese has a few scratches. EXTRAS will be crossed off a number of christmas card lists I feel. Nicolo retakes 4th a few corners later.

White is keeping up with Nash, they come to the final hairpin and Nash wants to lap Lavezzi again, he tries to go around the outside and touches the wall and slows, White brakes and touches the back of Nash. Nash stays in control and jinks to the left and White follows both lapping Lavezzi.

Lap 66

Vitkin comes into the pits from 9th and takes 10.2 seconds and leaves in 10th

Jones comes into the pits from 5th and takes 7.8 seconds and leaves ina disappointing 7th

Lap 67

White drafts past Nash in the back straight, Unser Jr is catching both of them and is only 5 seconds behind.

Lap 68

Blackwell has been lapped again

Lap 69

The order is

White
Nash +1.15

Koczo +1L (+5.7)
Mallon +1L (+12.8)
Blackwell +2L (+24.8)
Lavezzi +2L (+6.3)
Buyvolov +2L (+32.2)

Lap 70

Jones passes Kickert on the back Straight to take 6th, Fleet is not too far down the road.

Lap 71

Winson has a water leak, he continues for a few more corners before halting at the run off area at the famous Turn 8.

Jones breezes past Fleet on the Pit straight to retake 5th.

Vitkin passes Patrese to take 9th.

Lap 76

5 Laps to go and White has a 2 secnd lead over Nash who is 5.5 seconds ahead of Unser Jr.

Kocoz takes Briggs up the back straight and takes 11th.

Lap 78

Groves is lapped by White.

Lap 79

Jones makes a right pigs ear of the 2nd corner and spin, he has to wait until Fleet and Kickert go past before he can spin around and he drops to 7th.

Lap 80

The standings are

White
Nash +2.14
Unser Jr +7.18
Nicolo +15.93
Fleet +35.92
Kickert +37.54

Mallon +1L (+12.1)
Blackwell +2L (+32.7)
Lavezzi +2L (+11.3)
Buyvolov +2L (+33.4)

Ben Fleet clips a wall at Turn 7 and destroys his suspension and is out, heartbreak so close to the chequered flag.

Mallon is lapped again by White.

Lap 81

White wins for JLD by 2.29 seocnds.

Mitchell gets a second chance. If he can finish the next race in the points, he will be awarded with a pay raise.
The Renault engine failure is something very rare. We will let this slip for now. If it will happen again, reliability is something we will focus upon.

The FIA today said that the stewards are discussing the incident on Lap 45, in which Nicolo span, span round to face the right way and then drove in front of Koczo and Kickert who had to brake hard will be looked at, a decission will be given before the Canadian GP.

Mils has served his one race ban and has the other race ban suspended for the rest of the year, if he is found guilty of unsportsman like behavour then the race ban will come into effect.

Gawron has another race ban for the Canadian GP.

JeremyMcClean : You have no credits, you should bug your sponsors for more money for development, but given the number of spins do you think more engine power would be a good thing?

Shizuka : I am not sure a payrise will help much, maybe just spending the money to him now would be better.

FMecha : You have no money to spend on the car, and you may have to wait for an upgrade... however you spend 125 on Morton and 217 on Gene, so you could say "You are (insert abuse) and are not worth the 125/217 credits we pay for you, we shall pay you xxx." and as long as redbulljack14 or Phoenix do not object about their drivers getting paid less then they will get a pay decrease which will appear in your credits. xxx can be any figure between 1/16th of the 125 or 217 to the amount you paid them amount minus 1/8th (for the 2 drives they have already done).

QuickYoda41 : Driver swops are not possible yet but by mid season I might think about allowing you to change drivers. Mils is a pay driver so Aurora can not let him go without going into massive debt.

Let me know if you think the rules are too hard (although I think it does give you more chance to make a difference on the car and drivers) and if my race reviews are too long or I give far too much information.

Canadian GP free practice will be done tomorrow.

Wizzie : JLD have a mere $40 credits. Not enough for a Engine or Chassis upgrade but enough to improve at least one of your drivers. Gawron especially...

Shizuka : 2.5% of your total budget then? (20 credits). Nothing for Mils?

Clio Racing Team press release:

It seems the Clio team are becoming impatient with Zatecci's recent qualifying performances, leaving the team unable to progress to Saturday's main event. Whilst Koczo has done very well, Dante Zatecci can be often seen near the bottom of the time sheets, not something the Clio Racing Team like. "We have made it clear that Dante's performances are poor. We are expecting a better performance from him in the next race or we could be looking at dropping his wages." Rumours are also circulating that should Zatecci's form continue to drop, he may be sent on a 'special driving course' to improve his abilities between the 3rd and 4th races.

Donkervoort is not happy, instead of racing like as if his life depends on it, Mallon chose to drove steady and finish, rather than retire in a points scoring position!
Meanwhile the team tries to improve its financial position by launching the Life Racing Cheese brand!

On my drivers on other teams: Vitkin is still confused about the fact there are more than one drivers on the road at the same time, unlike in Russian rally. Also he does not understand why not all cars are equal. Despite that he seems to do rather well and is happy with his points finish.
Meanwhile Waladi is just rejectful...

It was an exciting race, with any number of drivers that could have won it.

Fighting Mongooses - Qualified well but Roos tried too hard to keep up with Davies and was the first retirement, although his team mate could have been the second one when he ran into him, thankfully he was unharmed but not too many laps later his engine expired. All in all a race to forget. D+

Aurora - Mitchell made a stupid error which lost him his wing but never got the chance to get back to the pits as he got crashed into and lost a wheel. Davies did well but one suspects he was driving too hard and blew the engine up. C

Sunshine - Unser Jr although had a bad start due to factors that were not his fault, drove a reasonable race, and was rewarded with a podium. Winson was well off the pace the whole race and probably was glad of the mechanical retirement. B

Benetton - Nicolo lost a lot of places again not down to him and came back from near last to get some good points. He did make one error and was nearly wiped out by Koczo. Jones did well to get points considering the extra pit stops, but he could and should have been on the podium, he did make some rookie errors and the team will need to look hard at their options. C-

European - Nash and Kickert both had issues at the start due to the bunching up at the front, Kickert fell back to last but worked hard to get back into the points. Nash led for some of the race but could not get a one stopper to work. A-

JLD - White made the 2 stopper work and drove a fault free race to win. Koczo probably never got a chance to get used to the car, but his spin and destroying of a lot of the car probably did not make him popular with the bean counters at JLD. B

Chicago - Waladi was just slow all weekend and crashed. Fleet should have scored some points, but his understeering cost him points, if he done it a lap later he would have got 2 points. All in all a weekend to forget for the team. E

Phoenix - Vitkin and Groves spent a lot of the race battling each other, Vitkin still has no luck as he had to make an extra pitstop when he drove into a spun Lavezzi which cost him a point. However they do look like best of the rest. B-

Foxdale - Did not drive anywhere near as well as last week, Von Gottorp spinning badly and later retiring with a broken transmission. Briggs was more on the pace but was still a lap down. D+

EXTRAS - Patrese should have scored points but two stupid errors meant he was 9th and outside the points. Lavezzi was slow and made too many mistakes. The car does look like it needs a lot mor grip. E

Donkervoort - Mallon drove a trouble free race, but was slow. Macklin was inconsitant as he should have qualified. D-

Stavros GP - Melrose was unlucky to retire so early with a puncture as he could have got a handful of points, Blackwell was so slow it was embarassing. E+

Russian Bears - They got through prequalifying, both cars qualified in last but Sarkozys start was a joy to watch, however the car is still too slow. C+

West Midland - Mann did well considering the car and qualified was unlucky to retire. Schussler was again a waste of a seat. C-

Hungarian Life - Disappointed not to get out of prequalifying, Mori out perfrormed Davies who was lucky to get a second bite at the cherry with Aurora. E-

Clio Racing - Koczo did well in prequalifying but due to Zetticci the team did not progess further. F+

Zimsport - Well off the pace again, Katayama not driving well. E-

Welsh MRA - Off the pace and need improving. F

Well European had less money then you and are challenging the big boys :p Subaru also entered F1, spent little and left before anyone really noticed.

I will credit you later with some credits probably around 20% of your budget so use it wisely.

Team Wales have zero credits, you have four options.

1 - Shout at your drivers
2 - Shout at your drivers and give them a paycut, esp Josh Morton, who is worth at least 100 credits to you. Joan Gene was a bargain so you won't get much for her.
3 - Beg sponsors
4 - Wait and hope that Santa gives you an upgrade package.

Phoenix : After some talk and discussions, your sponsors feel it is too early to give you any more money. If you can score at least 4 points in the next 3 races then they would be willing to stump up some cash.

DanielPT : European have 50 credits. So far no teams have had random engine and chassis upgrades (as these won't kick in until at least the European rounds).

Eurobrun : In a few more races I will ask all the teams for a third driver, these will be randomly offered to the existing teams if they feel a need to replace a (useless) driver, I am hoping there will be a number of pay drivers. At the end of it, a couple of new teams may be allowed to enter but they would have to go through prequalifying and their budget is likely to be small. If teams drop out or team bosses lose interest in their teams then you may be able to take it over.

Just to remind all team bosses that you may find your current credits on the first post of the first page.

TMLW : You now have 110 Credits!

DanielPT: Remember it is 15% of your original budget rather then what you have now. However I have spent the 50 credits (10%) on long term improvements.

Canada GP - Round 3/16 - Free Practice.

Carlitos Mils wanted to show the world he was ready for action after his one race ban by setting a time over 4 tenths quicker then his team mate who was in second. There were rumours that the team had increased the engine power and were running on fumes for Mils to get this time. Then it was the usual suspects of Fighting Mongooses, Dan Unser Jr, Benetton, White and European.

David Koczo popped up in 17th ahead of both Foxdales and the ever slow Lavezzi and Blackwell. Although his team mate was done in 31st so he will be praying for luck to prequalify.

Davies was 23rd quickest over a second faster then Mori his team mate in 32nd.

The prequalifiers look like being Foxdale, Russian Bears, West Midland F1 and it could be Welsh Motor Racing taking the final spot with both of their drivers getting reasonable times in 26th and 29th.

Donkervoort had a horrible time spinning everywhere, they had two offs and broke two wings and were 34th and 35th, or second last and dead last.

Unsigned guitarist and songwriter Jake Sanson has expressed an interest in entering his race team into F1 as soon as humanly possible. The team are submitting an entry for 1995 and it's expected that five of their 12 contracted drivers in other various categories are competing for the seats for his F1 team. More news to follow.

There could be mid season enteries, but 1995 is very possible. Although we are on race 3 of 16 so far...

jakesanson : This series is different from the others as although you do enter a team and 2 drivers, the drivers are randomly allocated, and teams get to buy a chassis, engine and two drivers according to their budget. I do not think anyone has their drivers they entered racing for them. I think it does make it more exciting.

Prequalifying was exciting and came up with a surprise of two....

Canada GP - Round 3/16 - Prequalifying

The session kicked off and Davies set the fastest time of the early session, however coming to the final hairpin he was caught behind Schussler and Zetticci, Schussler ran wide and Zetticci dived in the inside but Davies probably frustrated behind these two drivers, rammed Zetticci out of the way causing him to hit Schussler who broke a wing. Davies was racing up to the final chichane when he probably realised that he did not want to continue and should pit but messed it up and slammed into wall next to the pit lane. although Davies climbed out, you could see was shaken. This ended his run for the day.

Things were not much better for Barii Mori, held up in traffic so only setting a slow time, at the highspeed turn 8 and 9 chichane he was coming up against Mitchell Macklin who spun in front of him and was collected, they both slammed into the wall and both suffered damage, although Mori broke the whole of his front suspension and lost both wheels. Macklin had a broken front wing and went back to pit. However Mackin never seemed confident from then on and was 15th fastest to be polite or second slowest if we are not.

On her first run Briggs set the fastest lap with a 1:15.132, just before the session ended she was the only driver to break the 1:15s with a 1:14.999... Von Gottorp found speed and was second. Koczo continued to impress with a 4th fastest time. Buyvolov was also quick coming 5th jumping Rotondo who also managed to find some speed and was 6th.

Katayama was 3rd slowest witha 1:17.112 time, traffic and spins in front of her meant she never got a good run. She improved on her 2nd run coming 10th. The three Ms of Mallon, Mann and Morton all were within two tenths of each other to round out the top 10. However it was close from 5th to 14th with less then a second between them.

Code: Select all

Florence Briggs      - Foxdale Auto Racing  - 1:14.999
Leonhard Von Gottorp - Foxdale Auto Racing  - 1:15.267
Rhys Davies          - Hungrian Life        - 1:15.769
David Koczo          - Clio Racing          - 1:15.886
Alexey Buyvolov      - Russian Bears        - 1:16.019
Federico Rotondo     - Zimsport             - 1:16.066
Donald Mallon        - Donkervoort          - 1:16.268
Douglas Mann         - West Midland F1      - 1:16.319

Code: Select all

Josh Morton          - Welsh Motor Racing   - 1:16.343
Shinobu Katayama     - Zimsport             - 1:16.367
Nikolas Sarkozy      - Russian Bears        - 1:16.420
Joan Gene            - Welsh Motor Racing   - 1:16.540
Andres Schussler     - West Midland F1      - 1:16.640
Dante Zetticci       - Clio Racing          - 1:16.960
Mitchell Macklin     - Donkervoort          - 1:17.077
Barii Mori           - Hungrian Life        - 1:17.333

The close times means that between 4th and 7th fastest teams there was only .15 seconds between them. Davies will be upset at being 3rd and not prequalifying as will Mallon and Mann in 7th and 8th. Hoever the close times do mean that Foxdale go through without breaking sweat and Zimsport, Russian Bears and Clio Racing all scrape through.

Drivers in bold have prequalified.

Florence Briggs - Foxdale Auto Racing - 1:14.999
Leonhard Von Gottorp - Foxdale Auto Racing - 1:15.267

Rhys Davies - Hungrian Life - 1:15.769
David Koczo - Clio Racing - 1:15.886
Alexey Buyvolov - Russian Bears - 1:16.019
Federico Rotondo - Zimsport - 1:16.066

Donald Mallon - Donkervoort - 1:16.268
Douglas Mann - West Midland F1 - 1:16.319
Josh Morton - Welsh Motor Racing - 1:16.343
Shinobu Katayama - Zimsport - 1:16.367
Nikolas Sarkozy - Russian Bears - 1:16.420

Joan Gene - Welsh Motor Racing - 1:16.540
Andres Schussler - West Midland F1 - 1:16.640
Dante Zetticci - Clio Racing - 1:16.960
Mitchell Macklin - Donkervoort - 1:17.077
Barii Mori - Hungrian Life - 1:17.333

JLD Motorsports will enter Douglas Mann as their second driver over the excluded Joanne Gawron.

Stewards office wrote:Rhys Davies given warning

Rhys Davies driving for Hungarian Life was given a warning due to his unsportsman like behavour on the track with Dante Zetticci and Andres Schussler. The stewards felt after seeing all the video evidence and telementary that Davies should have slowed down or stopped rather then speed up and ram Zetticci aside who caused damage to Schusslers car. No further action will be taken.

Hungarian Life's Press Release

Unfortunately we can't seem to build two good enough cars for qualifying at the moment and the rules don't help us, either. I hope our sponsors can give us a little more credit. Our car was seen a lot with all Rhys's actions.

Macklin needs to perform better! he made us DNQ! We can not tolerate this much longer!
Despite that, we still believe in our policy of hiring young unproven talents, as Mallon's pace shows, this is the right choice!
I don't know what i want and i want it now!
