The Ferrari-McLaren Club

Post by DOSBoot »

I'm trying to get a list of all the drivers that have raced for both Ferrari, and McLaren in their F1 careers, for some useless knowledge. ;) If anyone can fill me in on the drivers I missed, please fell free.

Fernando Alonso
Alain Prost
Niki Lauda (I think he's the only one to win a drivers championship for both teams.)
Stefan Johansson
Dan Gurney
Nigel Mansell
Gerhard Berger
Jody Sheckter
Kimi Raikkonen
Jacky Ickx
Dereck Bell
Gilles Villeneuve
Patrick Tambay
Andrea de Adamich
John Surtees (Unofficially)

Where there is a will, and somebody who wants to con people out of money, then somebody will sadly find a way round (and by the looks of things the same spammer has also been around a few other F1 forums).

What's slightly unnerving about that spambot is that it's one 's' instead of a 'k' away from being my name.
Better than 'Tour in a suit case' Takagi.

You can add:

Andrea de Adamich drove for Ferrari in his debut race at Kyalami in 1968 (first and last race for the Scuderia). In 1970/71 he drove for McLaren.

John Surtees drove 3 and a bit seasons with Ferrari, World Champ in 1964 with them, and also drove a McLaren chassis for the first half of 1970 (under Team Surtees) before building and running his own for the second half of the season.

Thanks. List has been updated. Although since Surtees's run at McLaren was with a customer chassis, so I'll make him an unofficial member.

Could we add team members:???

Nikos Tombasis, the Greek designer. Joined McLaren from Ferrari, only to return to Ferrari!

Giorgio Ascanelli, Senna's mechanic, joined Ferrari (via Benetton???)

Henri Durand. Ferrari tech wizz, (at that time Ferrari's only team member with previous wind tunnell experience in 1990!!!) joined McLaren just before 1991 season

to name just a few
Miserable Thierry (Boutsen) staggers round mostly on ten cylinders (out of 12) with no clutch, low oil pressure, bad brakes and no grip to finish tenth, 3 laps down...

(Murray Walkers review of Boutsen's Brazil 1991 race).

Thats a point these days!
