If only the abbreviations were around long ago. We could have had

Vittorio Brambilla (BRA)
Franck Lagorce (LAG)
Emerson and Christian Fittapaldi (FIT)
Alain Prost (PRO)
James Hunt (*UNT)
Giovanna Amati (DIRTY PIRATE WHORE)

LOL! That would be mine too. If we would both drive, I guess that would make mine WTS, or WAS, or something, though you can make WAR, WON and WRS (worse) out of my name. XD

By the way, I saw someone mentioned Yuji IDE, I guess he's the only person whose three-letter abbreviation is also his full name?

EDIT: What would happen if there were a Formula 1 driver with a surname of only two letters? It's not entirely impossible... (Btw, Enoch's abbreviation would rock: LAW.)

I'd imagine they'd use the driver's first initial eg I know a guy called Darren NG - he'd be called DNG.

Motorbike racing has also used those abbreviations and there I can recall one rider with a surname of only two letters: Youichi Ui. IIRC he was simply Ui in the graphics, so he was abbreviated with two letters.

Mine would be LAC or CAN, depending on whether the timing board bothers with the "la" in front of my surname. (This is based on my psuedonym, since my racing exploits under my real name are so lousy that I can't even imagine them on a F1 timing screen...)

You never know, you might come in to some money and sign yourself up as a paydriver or something. Given that said money is more than you know how to spend.

Racing under a pseudonym is a telltale sign of rejectdom -- like "Gimax" or "Jean Max/Max Jean"

It was called Jean Max, but I think the organizers misunderstood his name (hence they called it Max Jean)

There we go: his real name was Max Jean, but everyone called him Jean Max. Amazing that although the F1 rejects website itself clarifies his name, on these very forums we all still get confused!

Some of my friends/people I know would have interesting ones, some not so interesting... SWE, KIN, DUG, KRI, BAR, TIM, EIS, DEN, MIL, BAI, BRA, but the best would be ZWO.

Pedro de la Rosa appeared as DLR on the timesheets.

There's no need to be scared, Waris - I don't bite :)

"Alianora" came out of a book called "Dragonsbane" by Patricia C. Wrede while "La Canta" is the Spanish root of the verb "to sing". I first used the name for a minor character in a story I never completed, but when I started participating in F1 fora, I decided to use it as a psuedonym and it stuck.

With that logic, I'd appear as LCA. Suddenly it doesn't look so great an abbreviation.
