Bill Burr discovering F1 is probably the best thing ever

So, stand-up comedian and hollywood star Bill Burr just recently discovered F1 and now does these hilarious, profanity-laced, cigar-smoking reviews of F1 races on his weekly podcast... all mixed together with a pinch of his humble, "I don't know what I am really talking about" layman's att...

Just a few months after I posted the above, Manoel de Oliveira has passed away :(

I believe that might be the last pre-WW2 driver that was still alive.

Re: The last pre-war drivers alive?

I believe Manoel de Oliveira is the oldest living Grand Prix driver (of pre/post war eras) at 106 years old, born December 11th 1908. He never ran a "championship" event (the vast majority were non-championship races) but he won the Non-Championship 1937 Estoril Circuit race. He is also st...

Re: The Marussia Thread

So, if Haas was to invest in Marussia, it would be a bit like how BAR invested in Tyrrell in 1998, to prepare for BAR's debut in 1999.

Still a shame, as Marussia would simply evolve into Haas in 2016, and we would be still end up short 1 team.

I assume the "third drivers" would end up on the grid.

At the point where they have 16 drivers (8 teams) .... add another car for each team and VOILA! 24 cars again!

Re: Teams assigning numbers to drivers

Why Ferrari did have a long time the number 33 34 etc ? When? - Before 1973, numbers were assigned on a race-by-race basis, so numbers could change all the time. - From 1974 until 1979, Ferrari ran #11 and #12 - In 1980, Ferrari had #1 and #2 (thanks to Jody Scheckter's championship) - From 1981 un...

Re: Teams assigning numbers to drivers

Yes. There might be more to it. Maybe teams keep numbers until they change owners/names (Minadi - Toro Rosso for example).

I could certainly do it again for fun. I am at university right now, but if i get bored later I might try a different set of circumstances.

Intresting nonetheless!

Re: Teams assigning numbers to drivers

I really prefer the old way to do it. It was easier to market cars and teams really were known by their numbers. I still associate #27 with Ferrari, #3 with Tyrrell, #11 with Lotus etc... A lot of people beat down on NASCAR, but really I love the fact they market drivers/teams according to numbers. ...
