Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Miami 2024

Post by Londoner »

1. Lando Norris. Could it really be anyone else? The first man to straight up beat Verstappen one on one since Austria 2022.

2. Esteban Ocon. Finally a points finish for Alpine in 2024.

1. Kevin Magnussen - Truly a man beyond the sport. His driving is just too radical for F1 to understand. He operates on a different level.
2. I guess Lando did okay too.

1) Lando Norris: An obvious choice, toppling Verstappen and winning on his own terms.

2) Daniel Ricciardo: A mediocre race performance, but the sprint placing was definitely improbable.

Norris. Don't even bother holding the poll. Won on merit. He had Verstappen entirely under control on hards that you have to speculate that he'd have won even without the SC.

This is why I keep saying that we should hold IIDOTR for when it's deserved and stop awarding it for the sake of awarding it. Cos this is way better than Ferrari not bungling their strategy for a change, an Aston cropping up in 5th, or Merc remembering what being a real F1 team is.

Just one today: Lando Norris. It's what the award is all about. This win was a long time coming and the time just made it even sweeter. I think the entire paddock was happy with this win. I think even Max was happier with the result than if he cruised to victory once again.

Driver: Magnussen - for owning his behaviour during the sprint, showing Hamilton how to race , and also being my candidate for RoTR

Team: Has to be Alpine I guess

Lando obviously, also HMs to Ocon for finally getting Alpine a point and both junior Red Bull drivers for mixing it with the big teams (yes I'm including the sprint for Danny Ric).

HM: Tsunoda for, once again, pulling the RB Cash App VISA Crypto Bitcoin Elon Musk 420 69 whatever its called to 7th. But Riccy will get all the headlines for being 4th in the sprint.

My boy get no respect.

Lando Norris: Finally! Even after the safety car, I was expecting Verstappen to overtake him, but he took a win in style. :D

Honorable mention to Ricciardo for an amazing result in the sprint (and the shootout before that).

Norris: Obviously. I thought the day would never come and even yesterday I expected Verstappen to just cruise past after the SC. Hard to believe it’s Norris’s first win in any class since his only F2 victory in Bahrain 2018 but I’m sure this won’t be the last

Ocon: His and Alpine’s first point of the year, hopefully this means their slowly getting their act together

HM: Ricciardo’s sprint performance: 4th on the grid and the Sprint race having ran 3rd for a while in the RB. I only give it a HM because it’s the Sprint but still it was a small reminder of the old Ricciardo
