Reject of the Race - Brazil 2023

1. Charles Leclerc's car. The dictionary definition of instant ROTR.

2. Mercedes. Possibly their worst "normal" race since Austria 2018, their race pace and tyre management was frankly embarrassing.

Honourable mention to Alfa Romeo for a costly double DNF

Gotta be Leclerc's Ferrari, followed by Mercedes for me.

Lord, easier to list who SHOULDN'T be nominated this week.

Leclerc: Why are you so unlucky? Roger Penske is fond of saying you make your own luck......

Ferrari: Six cars with your engines, two finished, and one of those had issues. Sainz begging the team to ditch the new spec clutch is a good look too.

Russell: Your teammate was absolutely crawling around just to give you DRS and you still couldn't keep up, maybe because the team kept telling you to watch your tyres and you ignored them? Nah, it must be Hamilton's fault.

Mercedes: I know they send armored G-Wagons for the crew in Brazil, but you shouldn't try to race them.

Piastri/Ricciardo: Why on earth did they go back out 1 lap down? This isn't NASCAR. The site of them slipstreaming each other was interesting, but pointless.

Haas: Lap 1 accident sums up their season really.

1- Mercedes- Last year it was a well-deserved 1-2. This year hammy is scraping the lower end of the points and George had to retire the car. God they were slow and Hammy even asking to go onto the hard tyre really showed how desperate they have become

2- The amount of F1 races- 4 races in 5 weeks including 3 sprints. I personally think this is too much now- I think at least 4 races need to go (but knowing f1 they will drop the tracks we love and keep the Saudis and the Miami's)

Hm- Alfa Romao- Double DNF is not good
HM- Charles Leclerc car. At least make it to the start!!

Mercedes. They looked positively mortal in Sao Paulo today. Never thought I would see Hamilton finish 8th out of 14 finishers. Russell had yet more bad luck with being the recipient of reliability issues, which really threatens to have him finish 8th overall in the end-of-year standings - 7th if things go really well. It would be the worst finish in the overall standings since 2012, when Mercedes were 9th and 12th. With Mike Elliot going out the door, what's next? A badly timed blip at best.

Charles Leclerc. Crashing in the warm-up lap is certified ROTR material, no matter what the context.

Mercedes: Just awful, both drivers really seemed to be struggling. Luckily for them, Ferrari also had a bad day.

1) Mercedes: Looked promising in qualifying, but were swallowed up in the race. Hamilton's four points won't be much of a consolation.

2) Leclerc's car: Risible and farcical.

Dishonourable Mention: Alfa Romeo

Charles Leclerc/His Car: I don’t care what the reason is, crashing out before the race even starts is an automatic ROTR. Invoking the spirit of Prost at Imola 1991.

Mercedes: I honestly thought they’d be contenders this weekend, Hamilton loves this place and Mercedes were genuinely the team to beat last year. Instead I was wondering if they’d swapped cars with Ferrari because we almost never see them run into tire problems and lack of race pace like that. How these are still 2nd in the WCC and Hamilton 3rd in the WDC i don’t know.

HM

Ferrari powered cars: 6 entries, 1 crash before the race started, 1 crash at the first corner, 2 power unit failures, 2 surviving cars finished 6th and 12th out of 14.

It's pretty much a toss-up between Mercedes and Ferrari - you wouldn't think these 2 teams were vying over 2nd in the constructors. (Though I think without Leclerc's going on the parade lap it would easily have been Merc).

Take your pick:

Mercedes were performance dire

Alfa Romeo were reliability dire

One out of two Ferraris was reliability dire the other was dire-adjacent

I would pick Mercedes.

Charles Leclerc's Ferrari or just Ferrari since Sainz had clutch issues in his car.

Shout out - Ferrari powered cars - One Haas and One Ferrari only managed to finish the race. Also shout out Merc for just being nowhere in the race.

I will nominate... the England ODI cricket team. You utter, utter, utter muppets. The last four weeks have been considerably less entertaining than I'd hoped. "Oh, but it's in India and we're not used to the conditions, and..." ...the Netherlands have managed two wins, and they're part-timers. What's your excuse?

This race could have been as chaotic as 2003 and still nothing would have come close to that.

1. Charles Leclerc's Ferrari. This hands down. For a car to self destruct on the formation lap is just absurd.

2. Mercedes: Both cars fell to nowhere in the race in spite of being driven by two sets of very capable hands.

1) LeClerc's Ferrari - that was pathetic

2) Martin Brundle's grid interview with Machine Gun Kelly - when will he stop talking to people who clearly don't care about the sport?
