Super Formula is back!
Valtteri Bottas took home the 2020 title in a star-studded season which only saw reigning champion Naoki Yamamoto finish as the only Japanese driver in the top 7 of the championship. With Bottas moving to F1 with the Toyota factory team, it is all but certain that Super Formula will see a different champion than in the previous season.

TEAM CHANGES
North Star has left their partnership with Kondo Racing after an unsuccessful season. Right now there are no other changes, however:
Team Mugen can enter into a partnership with Team Goh at a gain of 2 CP for this season, however Team Goh will then split to make its own team for the 2022 season.
Team LeMans can enter into a partnership with ROOKIE Racing at a gain of 1.5 CP for this season, pending ROOKIE taking over the team for 2022.

RULE CHANGES
Perhaps the biggest change to this series will include a temporary driver bonus based on the circuit. As we know, some drivers are better on one track than another, and this will be implemented with an increase in the raw pace and qualifying stats for that race. I still haven't thought it out completely, but one thing I can tell you is, if Kamui Kobayashi returns for another season, he will get increased stats for Okayama.

Any Thai and Malaysian drivers will get dramatically increased stats for their respective home tracks. You are allowed to enter them for their home races only, as long as you abide by the rule below.

In addition, to help Japanese talent get more racing experience, the JAF are also enacting a rule where every two-car team must field at least one Japanese driver. The exceptions to that will be KCMG, which in addition is allowed to field a Hong Kong driver.

CALENDAR CHANGES
The calendar expands to 10 races, with Suzuka East returning to the championship for the first time since 2002, with drivers getting the same stat bonus as for the normal Suzuka layout. Fuji Speedway will get a second race.

No changes here - the Dallara SF19 will be used in 2021. Toyota and Honda will remain as engine suppliers and Yokohama will remain as the sole tyre supplier. As of now, the differences between those two will only be cosmetic.

The CP will change at the end of every season, according to the teams' championship as follows:

BONUS: Teams will earn an extra 1 CP for each driver from their Development Program (1 driver = 1 CP, 2 drivers = 2 CP) + extra 1 CP for one of the drivers under the age of 25 (born in 1996 or later).

You can also gain CP by selecting certain sponsors and signing certain drivers.
New teams get 6 CP by default (for 2 cars).

NEW: If you downsize to one car, you will earn an extra 1.5 CP. On the other hand, if you expand to two cars, you will lose 1.5 CP.

Every team has to sign at least one Japanese driver; the only exception is KCMG which can opt for a Hong Kong driver instead.
Mugen must sign a Red Bull-sponsored driver, otherwise RB's marketing department will set up an extraordinary meeting.
You can attempt to sign drivers from junior programmes unrelated to your engine supplier, but this could have consequences...

MarchSixteen and Team LeMans need to let me know whether they'll be staying with Honda engines or moving to the Toyota camp. There is a rumour circulating that Honda would like to offload the engine supply for one team, since supplying 15 cars with engines may be a bit too many.

Car Setup

Here comes the fun part - time to assign points to your car!
There are no upgrades, so be careful - what you make before the season starts is what you get for the whole season.

The six attributes you can change are as follows:
Mechanical Grip - base speed of the car - 2 CP
Wet Weather - wet weather pace - 1.5 CP
Qualifying - qualifying pace - 1.5 CP
Reliability - base reliability of the car - 1 CP
Ease on Tyres - slightly increases tyre durability - 1 CP
Ease of Setup - increases setup quality of the car - 1.5 CP

All attributes are integers from 1 (worst) to 10 (best).

BASE STATS: Aerodynamics and Engine attributes are 8 for all teams.

NEW: Alongside bonuses in driver stats for the junior drivers at Fuji (Toyota) and Suzuka / Motegi (Honda), their respective teams will gain attributes on their home tracks:
Fuji Speedway (Toyota): +2 qualifying, +2 setup ability for all cars
Suzuka Circuit (Honda): +2 qualifying, +2 setup ability for all cars
Motegi will have no car bonuses.

EXAMPLE - TOM'S will have their qualifying attribute on 7 for every race of the season, except for Fuji, where it will be at 9.

I'll set the deadline to January 3rd, then we can carry on with a pre-season test at Autopolis, a season preview and then kick off the 2021 season!
