Oooooorrrrrr if somehow none of those deals work, put in Keegan back in the car :D Note that if any of the first four drivers go in, they will be given equal treatment at the team, but symbolically they will have the #1 and Mansell will have the #2. If Keegan gets in, bathplug Keegan and Mansell gets the #1.

Jones driving for Williams

Two-time reigning World Champion Alan Jones has today been unveiled as Lotus' new driver in a shock move that will undoubtedly cause ripples up and down the grid.

The embattled Lotus team, which suffered a huge decline in 1980, had previously announced that junior driver Rupert Keegan would be promoted alongside Nigel Mansell for the 1981 season. Instead, Keegan and his considerable backing will revert back to the B&S Fabrications squad for the second season of their two-year deal to function as a home for Lotus development drivers. Quite what this means for the junior program remains unclear.

Also unclear to observers at this point is quite how much money Lotus have devoted to making this deal happen. Jones reportedly turned down the offer of a fifth successive season at Williams over accusations that the team was favouring his Canadian teammate Gilles Villeneuve. Villeneuve will now take on Jones' mantle as the team's lead driver, and the identity of his teammate remains unclear at this stage.

B&S Fabrications' Bob Sparshott confirmed that his team was "delighted to have Rupert back for another year, although we commiserate him on having that opportunity taken away. We'll do everything we can to help him beat Alan Jones on track this year."

A bullish claim from the Luton-based team principal, especially given that in 1980 B&S finished five places below Colin Chapman's team in the Constructors' standings. Frank Williams and Colin Chapman declined to comment at this time.

The RNG has been concluded and all driver and designer slots have been filled.

The current lineups can be viewed on the wiki.
The current designer allocations can be viewed on the Designers tab of the spreadsheet.
The RNG odds can be found in #rejectsport-market of the GPR discord.

Chassis

New chassis are constructed in just the same way as last season. Your designer adds their bonuses and penalties after chassis construction. You can either:
- Construct a brand new chassis
- Give your 1980 chassis a B-spec or your 1979 chassis a C-spec. (for ease of reference, both will be referred to as a b-spec.)
- 1980 chassis cannot be run without upgrading

As always, the variables you need to know are:
- Grip: duh
- Build Quality (BQ): Inherent reliability of your car. 1 point = 1 rel
- Handling: Random Grip Range. 1 point = 100 RGR
- Drag: 1 point = -1 BHP
- Mass: 1 point = -1 grip

Chassis tier information is on the spreadsheet.

Sell Chassis
You have the option to sell your chassis to collectors for 10% of it's build value. This ONLY applies to chassis you have built yourself.
You cannot sell chassis to other teams.
Obviously, if you sell your chassis, you have to build or buy a new one.
You cannot sell your chassis and develop a B-Spec for 1981.

1981 Pre-Season phases:

Phase 1: Sponsor tier, Alignment, and Travel Costs
Phase 2: Drivers and Designers
Phase 3: Chassis
Phase 4: Engines & Suppliers (incl. tyres)

EDIT - I am currently reconsidering my plans for Spartec. Will edit them in here when a choice is made.

FURTHER EDIT -

Spartec will be selling the G71B. We will be building a new CG chassis, and its precise designation shall depend on what Pasta tells me about FIA categories in 1981.

EVEN FURTHER EDIT -

With Pasta's confirmation that Group 7 will continue to exist bureaucratically in 1981, the new Spartec will be called the G71C

All chassis RNG have been completed, for now the values can be foudn in rejectsport market on discord. I will update the spreadsheet with the new information shortly.

Engines

Exactly the same as last year, simply peruse the spreadsheet and pick what engine you'd like. Each engine manufacturer has teams they MUST supply, and teams they CAN supply.

Suppliers

Tyres are mandatory, but the other suppliers are optional.. This year there are no free tyres.

Like tyres, you can only have one active supplier, but you may bid for up to 3 suppliers to fill that slot. Suppliers are in three categories - Petroleum, Lubricants, and Parts. You can bid for 3 suppliers. Supplier RNGs will be rated by how similar the supplier’s brand image is to yours.

Supplier choices can be found on the spreadsheet, along with your current generated chassis stats.

Please use the following form:

Code: Select all

The Rise and Fall of Ron Dennis, Episode II wrote:Indeed, Ron Dennis would soon find a partner willing to supply the desperate McLaren outfit with engines. Renault was looking to expand their influence in the sport by adding a customer team. Due to the short-term nature of the arrangement, Renault got a number of concessions out of the team along with a rather hefty price tag.

One was that the engine supplier would get to pick one of the drivers of the team for the next three seasons. Despite Dennis's hope to add one of the conflicting Williams drivers, he was instead forced into taking on Jean-Pierre Jarier for '81 with unproved youngster Jérémy-Étienne Voeckler being forced on the team for 1982 and 1983. Uncertainty was the order of the day at McLaren.
The Rise and Fall of Ron Dennis is an eight-episode documentary produced by Best In The World available on Amazon Prime.

FISA have announced that Keke Rosberg has been disqualified from the Argentine Grand Prix following a protest from McLaren. The stewards have confirmed that the Williams driver was disqualified for running underweight at the conclusion of the Grand Prix.

"Both Williams cars were depositing liquid onto our driver's visors" said Ron Dennis, McLaren team principal. "This is a thorough violation of safety and deserves to be thoroughly investigated by FISA"

The Finn, who was set to record his first Formula One victory, will now record 0 points for the Argentine Grand Prix.

In a strange development, FISA President Jean-Marie Balestre has pre-emptively excluded the Banco Occidental team from the South African Grand Prix for running an illegal customer chassis. The brouhaha comes after stewards in Argentina failed to recognise the car entered by Emilio di Villota's squad as being old, unmodified Williams FW06 chassis, which is prohibited under the new rules.

Unless the team designs and builds their own chassis in accordance with the rules of the Formula One world championship, they will be excluded from the results of the South African Grand Prix.
Rupert Keegan is injured and will miss the South African Grand Prix
