Horrendous reports coming out of Italy right now concerning Alex Zanardi.

This vile, wretched year continues to torture us. Fingers crossed Zanardi can pull through like it's Long Beach 1998 again.

Whilst there is at least the positive that his condition does seem to have stabilised, and in particular that there seems to have been some stabilisation in his neurological condition, unfortunately the latest update that has been provided by the doctors does still sound rather grim.

It suggests that Zanardi is still in a fairly perilous condition and, even if he does eventually recover, might have suffered significant brain damage as a result of this accident. https://www.motorsport.com/general/news ... n/4809765/

That would be awful and really hope Alex does pull through. He was a delight to listen to on this podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOF61tDGYwM In fact I've listened to it 3 times already!

Yeah, it doesn't look good at the moment. I think he's probably gone the way of Schumacher. :/

After pulling through so much too.

After 18 months, Alex Zanardi has been released from hospital: https://www.autosport.com/general/news/ ... t/6927694/

Autosport reports the following from Daniella, Alex's wife:

“The recovery continues to be a long process," she said. "The rehabilitation programme led by doctors, physiotherapists, neuropsychologists and speech therapists has enabled steady progress.

"Of course, setbacks are there and can still occur. Sometimes you also have to make two steps back in order to make one step forward. But Alex proves again and again that he is a real fighter.

"An important step was that Alex was able to leave hospital a few weeks ago and is back at home with us now. We had to wait very long for this and are very happy that it was possible now, even if there are still temporary stays in special clinics planned for the future to carry out special rehabilitation measures on site.”
