QuickSim: Alternate F1 - The Manufacturer Era - 1998 Season

Post by Klon »

Given as his post works really well, I am totally going to steal the introduction sequence from Simtek for this series.

The Simulator

Simtek wrote:Grand Prix 2, same as what I use for Anglo-Irish F4, same as what Normal uses for F3 Eurasia, what novitopoli and CaptainGetz12 use for their F4 series, what Ataxia uses for IndyCar, what Pasta uses for... look, you get the idea, it's popular, it works, moving on.

The Cars

There will be little deviation from the cars that were run in real F1 in this time period, mostly slight performance adjustments based on the previous performance of a team the season before.

The Drivers

Before the start of each season, you are free to offer contracts for two driver slots.

Your choice will be limited in that you must fulfill two out of three objectives when signing drivers. Those objectives will be given and explained to you in private.

If multiple teams are looking for a certain driver, RNG will decide their fate.

The Teams

11 teams for 1998, 2 cars per team. Those 11 teams have been determined by the needs of the canon and previous developments:

Winfield Williams (novitopoli)
Scuderia Ferrari (biscione)
Benetton Arrows Playlife (kevinbotz)
West McLaren Mercedes (salamander)
Benson & Hedges Jordan (Reject_Dom)
Gauloises Prost Peugeot (ataxia)
Red Bull Sauber Petronas (wizzie)
HSBC Stewart Ford (pinkd56)
PIAA Tyrrell Ford (This Could Be You)
Fondmetal Minardi Team (Normal32)
MasterCard Lola Formula One Racing Team (petoli)

Team "management" will be assigned by me. You may voice the team you desire and I may ask you questions if I am unsure whether to entrust the team to your management. All taken teams will be announced by me in this thread.

The Race Weekend

305 km except Monaco, you all know how a Formula One race works. Furthermore, there will be two one-hour sessions to determine the grid.

The Points System

10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 for the time being.

The Race Calendar

I'll let the Wiki speak for itself.

If this is all automated, what do I do?

You pick the drivers, hope for the best and if you wish, you may change the lineup by replacing a driver with a driver picked from one of my suggestions if you can provide a good justification

Alright. For the time being, I'd like to stop applications and first sort everything out. Thanks for anyone willing to enter.

Edit: I have assigned the first three teams. You will find the information in the opening post.

Those three team owners may already begin picking their lineups. Please state multiple options to process things quicker.

To process things a bit quicker, I have hereby decided the following user-team assignments.

Winfield Williams (novitopoli)
Scuderia Ferrari (biscione)
Benetton Arrows Playlife (kevinbotz)
West McLaren Mercedes (salamander)
Benson & Hedges Jordan (Reject_Dom)
Gauloises Prost Peugeot (ataxia)
Red Bull Sauber Petronas (wizzie)
HSBC Stewart Ford (pinkd56)
PIAA Tyrrell Ford (This Could Be You)
Fondmetal Minardi Team (Normal32)
MasterCard Lola Formula One Racing Team (petoli)

If you did not get picked, do not fret: there will be Toyota coming in the future and it is not a personal decision against you.

The driver targets for your teams will be send to you later. After that, your only job is to post your driver choices as quickly as possible, preferably with multiple options, if required. Fictional drivers need the agreement of their DEC owners, RL drivers will be decided by RNG.

Please note that a driver can fulfill multiple targets at once if he matches all of them.

I'd PM'd them, but seeing as Mclaren have revealed their plans anyway, I'll post mine for the sake of fairness:

Tyrrell Bids:

#1 Driver:
1. Tom Kristensen
2. Toranosuke Takagi
3. Mika Salo

#2
1. Toranosuke Takagi
2. Marc Goosens
3. Tom Coronel

Test/Reserve (Not that it means anything, but it's nice to have bids)
Sammy Jones (pending AndreaModa's approval)
Marc Goosens
Tom Coronel

As you can tell, we've been given a tight remit...

All team owners should have received their target lists by now.

Please note:
You MUST achieve two out of three targets
A driver can fulfill multiple targets at once
There is no reward for achieving all three, should that be possible
Test drivers are irrelevant to the targets. You may name them, but they won't be included in the RNG and added only to your team if they are not signed for other jobs

Daniel Moreno, from Canada, is very much interested in securing a drive. While he would love to drive for Williams, he is willing to consider all offers.

Similarly, Jack Christopherson is also looking for employment. He is holding out hope that a Jordan drive is in the offing, but again, if one is not forthcoming, will consider other offers. - Has signed for Jordan. :glasses:

While Sammy Jones will definitely be available from 1999 onwards, he'd be open to offers for 1998 too - particularly test/reserve slots that would turn into a race seat in 1999.

Tyrrell would be interested in offering Jones the reserve seat for 1998, with an intent to run him in '99- in fact, looking at the calendar, it's entirely possible we'll need someone to fill in at this year's Canadian GP (it clashes with Le Mans, which Kristensen and/or Goossens will probably do)
