Very, very sorry for the delay, Williams team. I've been distracted with some outside work for the past four/five days, and the answers to your questions are coming much too late from me.

Collieafc wrote:Williams would like to ask for some points of clarification regarding this potential merger of PMC and their requirements:
Of course. This is not strictly a merger of Williams and PMC, but rather... a very amorous technical and financial relationship.

Frank Williams wrote:Would the injection of cash be all that is required this season? As Williams would like to ensure that we will not financially jeopardise our chances for 1986
That is correct; the next time money will change hands between Williams and PMC, will be in a thread titled '1986+'.

Frank Williams wrote:How would the profit and loss work per season? Is this calculated at the end of a season, at the start before bids, after bids or is it paid in installments over the season? Just so WIlliams can ensure that there is always enough capital within the teams
The Williams team will claim excess funds - or settle an outstanding balance - once per season. This will be at the start of each season, after 'Manufacturer Interest' and 'Manufacturer Support', but before the first phase of driver signing.

The accounting details of PMC will remain confidential, as the team is legally a separate company from Williams Grand Prix, but the choices you make on behalf of PMC will have an effect on what you give to - or take from - them. For example, picking two drivers that demand a significant salary will put PMC under far greater financial strain (which the Williams team will make-up), than selecting two well-funded pay drivers. However, given the advantages that a Formula 3000 team provide to young drivers, that is Williams' choice to make.

Frank Williams wrote:Would the legacy chassis after PMCs year of ownership spare one chassis of each seasons car, so Williams can display each seasons car in their Grove factory?
This would be fine. ;)

To further tempt you, please enjoy this picture - wonderfully drawn, as always, by TCBY - of PMC's car in its testing livery:

Because of the lateness of my reply, I will not rush you to reply, and will extend the period until the next race, if necessary, so you can make a decision or ask any further questions.

Dont worry about it - from running a series I know how much time it can take (More than you think) and about priorities!

Williams are happy to accept these terms, and by doing so wish to turn Grove into Britians answer to Maranello

Thank you, Williams team ;).

PMC Motorsport is now featured as the sole entry under the' Formula 3000 Teams' header, at the start of the thread, in this post.

There is... just one more thing:

You must now select two drivers to race PMC's FW09s for the remainder of the 1985 Formula 3000 season.

The most comprehensive list of active drivers with such an interest, is available at the start of the second phase of driver signing. For your convenience, I have removed all drivers currently contracted to Formula 1 teams, so it should be impossible to pick a conflicting driver; I have added a small note at the top of the linked list to reiterate this. Due to the amount of text in the post, I felt it would be easier on the server load to link to an existing list, rather than post a new one.

You are free to nominate drivers not on the list, if you wish, although I'll obviously have to give them the once-over.

Williams would like to pick for PMC Tommy Bryne and Martin Brundle. If Martin Brundle is not an option (As he is considered active in the F1 scene) We would like to go for Nicola Larini instead or if that is also not possible then Ivan Capelli

Round 9 - German Grand Prix, Nürburgring, 4th August 1985

Qualifying Results:
It's an all-business front row at the Nürburgring, with Alboreto taking pole by over a second. Pironi, who continues to appear as the slightly weaker of the three Ferrari drivers, filled the second row, alongside his marginally-quicker team-mate Prost. Mansell did not so much put in a sterling performance, as Watson was plagued with issues in qualifying; the Brabhams seemed well-suited to the German circuit. Winkelhock and Johansson shone at was is a home Grand Prix for their employer, and anyone who had ever given the BMW team a dollar could be found enjoying links under the shade of the 'M Power' hospitality tent. An Arrows and Minardi in the top ten has started to become customary, especially at faster tracks, and formerly-dominant teams like Tyrrell and McLaren looked at sea all weekend.

DNQ. Christian Danner - Zakspeed (Pirelli) +07.247 (Trap: 264 km/h)

Race Results:
Alboreto, who had asserted his domainance by easily outperforming his team-mates in qualifying, took a defiant win. Prost seemed on his backfoot all race, always being too late - too late to pit after Michele, too late through the traffic, and too late to really make a charge for the lead. Bellof was overtaken on only lap six, looking somewhat out of his depth, for a change. Incredibly, despite the tremendous success of the triple-car Ferrari team, Ayrton Senna continues to lead the Driver's Championship, bolstered by another podium finish. An increasingly rare points haul for the Brabham team puts them equal-fourth with Tyrrell.

With fifteen cars finishing, reliability seems to have improved throughout the entire field, and the genuine pace of some teams became more transparent; Jarier and Rosberg were not competitive enough to challenge Ferrari and Williams, and both McLarens finished poorly.

I'm not quite sure why we've actually been docked five points since Silverstone, but still, third place seems safe-ish so we will spend our D&Ts on next year's car.

UPDATE: this does not appear to be an isolated issue- all of the WCC points standings ignore Silverstone. Thankfully the WDC is correct so it is possible to note the correct standings:

1. Ferrari 99pts
2. Williams 56pts
3. Arrows 25pts
4. Brabham 13pts
5. Tyrrell 12pts
6. Minardi 11pts
7. Mclaren 5pts
8. BMW 3pts
9. Lotus 2pts
10. Toleman 1pt

Much as I'd like for Minardi to develop our downforce, it's time to focus on next year's car.

Also, it's something of a pleasant surprise to see how much better de Cesaris is doing for us than Patrese.

Thank you for noticing and correcting this issue .

It was... er~... the FIA's Lotus 1-2-3 diskette was a bit wobbly in the drive .

How does stuff like that happen? I don't understand. I have the same exact routine every race weekend, and I never forget to add the points up... except after the British Grand Prix, and only for the teams... for some reason.

Round 10 - Austrian Grand Prix, Österreichring, 18th August 1985

Qualifying Results:
If not for the hard work of Didier Pironi, it may have easily have been an all-Minardi front row in Austria. At over twenty kilometers-an-hour faster than second-place speed demons, Ferrari, the Formula One circus had to wonder how many teams would follow suit and begin designing 'unusually large' engines for next season. Prost's quickest hotlap was a typical piece of strategy from the Frenchman; one-point-two seconds off pole may sound like a lot, but when fellow competitors can't come close to it, he seemed quite calm about the situation. Instead, Prost concentrated on race setup, perhaps suspecting the Minardi's engines would eventually explode from the pressures of the Österreichring's high-revving corners.

Those with more powerful engines benefitted both up, and down, the grid; Pierluigi Martini showed some of the form that had made him a minor-star last season by qualifying fifth, Winkelhock put in one - not for the first time, this season - of several excellent qualifying performances, and Derek Daly's RAM seemed to inexplicably perform at its best at the quicker circuits, despite a significant horsepower disadvantage.

Race Results:
On race day, Prost emerged as the only Ferrari driver who seemed interested in challenging the non-scoring Ayrton Senna for the title. Despite being the filling in a Ferrari sandwich all weekend, Minardi maintaiened their starting positions in the race, de Cesaris leading briefly after Prost pitted on lap 34; their ten-points haul elevated them to fourth place in the Constructor's Championship, not far from new rival Arrows, who now look a little under threat.

The Williams drivers made good use of their BMW power, the German marquee's famous reliability proving critical due to running the engines with an additional 400RPM to stay competitive around the fastest track on the Grand Prix calender. Down the list of retirees, the Alfa engines used by the Arrows and Osella teams would not last the distance, and Laffite suffered a scary brake failure when he stepped on the pedal approaching the Bosch Kurve.

Arrows will spend 1 D&T on reliability, and then cease spending in 1985 until further notice- we are dangerously low on funds, even compared to last year.

That's much more what we were expecting from our challenger this year! Our main goal has to be to overhaul Arrows in the Championship this year, but I reckon we can do that anyway - I'm going to say this next D&T should be spent on the 1986 car.

One other thing I was wondering - Williams now has an F3000 junior team. What are the costs and benefits, and would Minardi be able to do the same?

Hellooo~

You may find an overview of the deal, in this post.

On the surface, at least, it appears to be quite the deal, wouldn't you agree?

Aislabie wrote:would Minardi be able to do the same?
Unfortunately, no Formula 3000 teams are currently interested in forming a partnership with the Minardi Formula One team.

820HP is not very much, these days! IIRC, you are in receipt of a new, bespoke, in-house, 'next generation', eight-cylinder turbocharged engine for 1986... :)
