The entire Williams team are ecstatic with our Monaco and wider season performance in that despite Ferrari possessing a larger pool of resources and additional car per race, at every straight and corner Williams are able to challenge and take the game to them. This is undoubtably due to the high levels of skill and professionalism of our drivers Ayrton Senna and Stefan Bellof, and the tireless work and dedication of our wider Williams team from the chief designer and mechanics to the cleaners and tea ladies to help make all this possible. We hope to keep the pressure on Ferrari as long as we can and are also looking for further resourses in order to aid our team development to continue this.

1 D&T on Mechanical grip, 1 on Downforce and the remaining 2 on next years car please. Given Williams position in the title chase, is there any way to fill the vacant sponsor slot? (Increased TV and media exposure, presence of wider sponsors at Monaco etc?)

Round 5 - Canadian Grand Prix, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, 16th June 1985

Qualifying Results:
It was the perfect weekend for a Ferrari one-two-three; even the Canadian crowd were enjoying the sight and sound of a trio of Ferraris whizzing around, and the density of Italian flags-to-other-countries was at least two-to-one. Prost was completely untouchable, while Pironi and Alboreto looked like they had to work a bit harder for their grid positions. The circuit seemed well-suited to the Arrows-Alfa combination, with both cars in the top seven, and Rosberg a surprising fourth. Minardi had all the straight-line speed in the world, but both their drivers had trouble slowing the cars down, especially under the bridge before turn six. No-one was sure what Williams were up to, other than keeping their cards close to their chest; if their cars expired in the race, one might think the team were struggling for performance in Montreal. From dizzying-highs to terrifying-lows, the Toleman team's lack of power ensured they would squabble with the Ligier team's year-old Renaults; neither team had any real chance of qualifying for the race.

DNQ. Philippe Streiff - Ligier-Renault (Pirelli) +10.810 (Trap: 256 km/h)

Race Results:
Pironi quickly lost second place when his turbo blew very early-on, followed by Ricardo Patrese in the Minardi, who spun-off on the turn-in to Droit du Casino. Throughout the race, the Williams cars made use of their straight-line speed to power their way to the head of the leading pack. Patrese's team-mate, de Cesaris, was left rather more red-faced, as he locked-up both front wheels on the approach to the hairpin and sideswiped Prost. Prost himself would eventually retire with a steering-induced suspension problem, which caused one of the front-right rods to vibrate and weaken, when he flat-spotted the tyre.

All of this meant that Alboreto was left to glide his perfect-handling Ferrari to his first victory of the year, but Rosberg had other ideas. The red-and-white Arrows steadily closed-up on Alboreto, the gap decreasing until the two cars looked as one, when on the penultimate lap Rosberg threw himself down the inside of L'Epingle; his two right-side tyres were on the grass, they stopped rotating, the grass became the kerbing, the Arrows bounced up into the air a few inches, landed, touched wheels with the Ferrari, the crowd shouted and yelled with excitement at what was happening, and Rosberg turned into the hairpin one position higher than he had been a few seconds ago. It was a move than belied the Finn's (supposed) maturity, was more like the sort of clumsy maneuver one expected from the non-championship Formula Atlantic round held earlier, and nearly allowed Bellof to catch them both, but it would give the Arrows team their first win in Formula One - and quite possibly the 1982 World Champion's last.

Ferrari and Williams are now equal in the Constructor's Championship, while Alboreto's second-place meant his first points of the season. Mansell finished where he started - and considering the Brabham team's performance so-far this season - that wasn't bad.

Yes! We've managed what some would consider (and what actually was) impossible- getting an Arrows to win a race- and we've repaid Rosberg for a pretty rubbish 1984. To keep up the momentum and try and retain 3rd in the WCC, we will spend our D&T on weight reduction

Round 6 - Detroit Grand Prix, Detroit, 23rd June 1985

Qualifying Results:
Alboreto made short-work of the haphazard, stereotypical angular Detroit street track, revisited for the fourth time. His Ferrari chassis looked especially grippy, and the V6 turbo engine in the back seemed to behave predicatively, which could not be said for certain other teams, who's turbos - at such a low speed - kicked-in seemingly at random, nearly propelling their pilots into either the grey Armco and cream-coloured concrete blocks on half the corners of every lap they attempted. The US, of course, is an important market for Fiat to make bigger inroads into, and the many American fans in the crowd who knew what a Ferrari was, and - unlike BMW and Alfa Romeo - didn't pull a face like a bulldog liking urine off a thistle when asked if they'd like to own one - could be proud of a bright red front row. Williams asserted, once again, how much a threat to Italian domination they were, splitting the sluggish Pironi and Prost, and surrounding the latter. The event was unusually well-catered; it was a strange sight seeing entire Formula One teams all gobbling hot-dogs and burgers around the paddock.

Teo Fabi, in what the American media had quickly nicknamed 'The Oscar', put himself an impressive twelfth on the grid, but team-mate Pierluigi Martini could not capitalize on the same equipment due to a misfire. There were more than just a few skillful drivers in half-decent chassis', who were otherwise competitive with powerful engines, like BMW, Alfa Romeo and Lotus, but in Detroit, they would all struggle to convert that horsepower into on-track performance. After the elation of Canada, the Arrows team could do no better than sixteenth and eighteenth. The Minardi's were also unusually off-the-pace, both cars struggling with Detroit's tight, twisty, low-grip corners, despite being easily the quickest cars down the extended - and chicane-less - straightaway, after the Ford Corner.

Race Results:
It had all looked so easy for Alboreto; after bringing up the rear of the Ferrari team so far in the season, his championship challenge could surely now begin in earnest. Prost and Pironi were left behind to battle it out and entertain the crowd, the Frenchman looking uncomfortable in the heat all throughout the three-day weekend. The Williams team's race-craft could not save them on this occasion, and Senna did what he could - maximizing the team's points tally - but even his well-balanced chassis could not compete with Ferrari's brilliance. Bellof, on the other hand, just... plum crashed into the wall, and parked parallel to Jefferson Avenue. John Watson kept a steady-head, and moved up from his starting position of seventh, to eventually come home with two well-earned points for the Brabham team. Fabi retired his Alfa junior car from a top-ten finish, points still seeming a distant hope for the Osella team.

After a disappointing weekend where we've been nowhere near the ultimate pace, Arrows will spend it's D&Ts on Mechanical Grip and Next Year's Car.

The first Ferrari 1-2-3 since the 1961 British GP, and the eighth occurrence of such a result in F1 history. A magnificent day indeed :glasses:

Scuderia Ferrari will switch their engine development to increasing reliability (just in case it isn't already so), and spend 2 D&T tokens on the engine. We will spend 1 D&T token on next year's car.

We'll get points eventually... Hopefully...

1 Downforce upgrade + 1 Weight reduction for Zakspeed. Next year's car can wait, we just want to qualify for races this season.

Not sure how we've managed to be so awful so far despite having a car with such good base numbers. Anyhow, one downforce update for us. We'd be very grateful to see Ferrari use their spare D&T opportunity to work on the engine that we're helping them to develop, but we don't really expect it.

I started to wonder this, also.

Although I wrote the code that simulates the sessions, I don't really understand why it treats your car this way. On a fast track (of which there are far more in the second-half of the season) your cars seem to be wayyy~ faster, and on slower tracks it seems to massiveeelllyyy~ exaggerate~ yourrr~ slownesss~.

Permitting a team to perform R&D on an engine they aren't using wasn't a functionally I envisaged, but if Ferrari wishes to perform development on the 015T rather than the 031/2 then I'm fine with this, if they state this intention.

Particularly given that, by the base numbers you put out before the season, our chassis is the fourth-best or something on the grid:

For anyone curious about my sanity, I promise you that I didn't spend all-night making the list by hand.

And here is an overall ranking of the chassis, but not so well formatted as yours:

  1. Ferrari - 9
  2. Williams - 10
  3. Lotus - 15
  4. Minardi - 19
  5. Brabham - 23
  6. Arrows - 33
    ... the rest

Strap a 1500 horse-power behemoth in the back of that and I'd have expected it to get better, not worse.
