www.sportschau.de wrote:Christian Horner Joins Critics of Indianapolis Race

Formula One Management chairman Christian Horner joined critics of the 500 km race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In an interview with Auto BILD, Horner harshly criticised Daniel Prieto for both a "disrespect" to motorsport and the drivers. The former Red Bull Racing team principal claimed that Prieto acts like a "modern-day Caligula", risking the lives of the drivers in his "blood sport" in an agenda to acquire "train accident" views from the lowest common denominator and treating modern athletes like Christians in ancient Rome, lives to be sacrificed in the vain pursuit of viewership.

"I mean, he basically asks road course drivers to suddenly provide a skill that is totally unfamiliar to them," Horner claimed, "oval racing is something that requires a very specific skillset that not many drivers in the world can provide, especially not in a European-/Australian-based series." He went on to note that these cars were not modified to provide sufficient speedway aerodynamics, showing mostly just extra-small wings, as seen in Monza. "The accident of the two drivers of the Danish team was really inevitable and we should thank our lucky stars nobody died," Horner noted.

Horner stressed that Terry Hawkin, whom he considers an extremely gifted driver who could be a healthy addition to the Formula One grid, simply had no idea how to deal with the incident on lap 44 that caused a major accident. "This is down to the very top of the series and once more proof that Daniel Prieto does not value the health of the drivers, merely seeing them as pawn in his pretender series," Horner stated, "Stunts like these prove a certain amount of desperation in ARWS management, which apparently seem to think their brand of racing is not popular without inane and risky gimmicks."

A new upgrade is supposed to be coming soon at Venturi, say sources close to the team.

The team is working out a new airbox system as well as tweaking the aerodynamics of the front ever so slightly.
The team was supposedly dissatisfied to lose the 1-2 in qualifying, and have been looking at ways to not only make the car better, but also to future proof it. This upgrade will come to Norisring. The team has declined to comment on these rumours, but some sources inside the team have refuted these claims, claiming the claims to be "preposterous".

Should Shioya be dropped it is unknown who would take the Vacant seat. As the team themselves have no suitable third driver.

SRMP wrote:NRE unveils B-spec upgrade

ARWS team Nurminen Racing Engineering haven't seen a large upturn in their performances despite upgrading from the lethargic Holden engines to BMW powerplants at the start of this season. Although speed has improved, reliability has remained a major issue and has cost the team a few good chances at championship points.

However, the team hopes for this to change now that their long-awaited major chassis upgrade has been finished. According to the team's technical director Walther Rench, most of the rear end of the car has been redesigned to better accomodate the BMW engine which the chassis wasn't originally designed for. This is expected to improve reliability and handling by a substantial amount. Some tweaks to the aerodynamics have been done as well, in an effort to find more grip at medium to high speeds.

As Team Mecha's hype dies down with the team confirmed to face-prequalifying again in Germany, despite an engine upgrade from supplier PURE-Hart, Team Mecha had no option but to announce upgrade.

Head Engineer Yusuf Irwanto admitted to J.O.U.R.N.A.L that the updated engine would not "extract it's maximum potential without some updates to the chassis". Irwanto added that he had noticed in the telemetry records about the car's aero deficiencies compared to rival cars. "We must do something. It'll be done by South African GP", added Irwanto.

Peak Aeroracing make upgrades

After an atrocious season so far, Peak Aeroracing Engineering has rushed out a large-scale upgrade to its cars before the German Grand Prix at the Norisring on 14th July. The team has been stuck in pre-qualifying all year and is hoping that the upgrade might propel them back into the main qualifying. However they are not counting on immediate success, technical director Philip Neumann commenting that it "may take some time" for the upgrades to have an effect. The team's drivers Daniel Martins and Gregor Pascal are said to be increasingly dissatisfied with the car and it is hoped that the upgrade efforts will go some way to alleviating their concerns.

autosport.com wrote:Barlini: Flat spot denied podium opportunity

Nino Barlini has blamed a flat spot on his front-left tyre for his crash at the AutoReject World Series' German Grand Prix, denying him a potential third-place finish.

Starting fifth, Barlini put in an assured drive to reach third, before hitting the wall at the final corner to leave the Norisring empty-handed.

The Italian believes that he had the pace to maintain his position, which would have been Team Mecha's best ARWS finish.

"I am so disappointed for the team, and for me," Barlini told NBCSN after the race. "Third could have been good for us, but we didn't manage to get it today.

"I had a small lock-up and this made a flat spot on my left front tyre, and so it was very difficult to control.

"I steered, like normal, but got the lock-up and then just went into the wall. I'm sorry for everyone at Mecha, we really had an amazing car here."

Despite an ignominious end to his German Grand Prix, Barlini believes that his Mecha team can be proud of its efforts in Nuremberg.

"We did a good weekend, we got out of pre-qualifying properly so we don't have to do that next time.

"We also see that our engine upgrades worked and there is more coming for the last quarter of the season, so the guys are working, which is nice!"

Alberto Cara and Melrose Racing Team have reached an agreement that will see the Tropican driver stay with the BMW-powered squad for two more years. Earlier today, Cara posted a picture of the contract signing on social media.

According to sources close to the team, the negotiations went very quickly. The contract has a driver option for the second year, something that was very important to Cara's manager. Cara currently is fourth in the standings, having scored 28 points.

A press conference was held today at Oslo, Norway, shortly after the ARWS Scandinavian Grand Prix, where it was announced the change of ownership of Winfield Venturi Formula from Valerian Racing Engines to the newly formed Statoil Norse Speed.

In a press conference, Samuel de Sauveterre, current team principal at Venturi, had this to say:

"I am looking forward to this new venture. We have been struggling financially these past couple of months, debts has just been piling on." he continued: "We are glad to have find a buyer, and I will continue to be in a prominent position even after the switch."

Ivar Ohlin, former Norwegian WTCM driver, then entered the conference, where he had this to say;

"I am much looking forward to this new venture that awaits us. This is looking to be a new step, a step that will hopefully fuel a fire that will kindle the Norwegian motorsport scene." said the 50-year old. He continued: "Despite our setbacks, we have finally finished the bought of the team, and Norwegian's first ARWS team is now in the making." "We are optimistic about the future of Scandinavian motorsport, and with our program, The Young Berserkers, we hope to prove the skeptics wrong."
Then, two drivers entered into the scene; these turned out to be Norwegian Astrid Bjornson and Danish Kristoffer Clemensen, both Formula STCC drivers with an immense amount of sucess in national categories, and first members of the Young Berserkers program.

"These," said Ohlin, "are the drivers of the future." "Strong, fast and determined, we hope to get the best of Scandinavia from this team."

While asked about the technical package, he said this:

"I was asking several Swedish engine manufacturers, and some did have some interest in the project." "However, they didn't seem that interest, so I doubt we will become a works team too soon, I don't think." "We have even approached Statoil to provide funding for a possible in-house engine, so anything is up the air after the current contract with Yamaha is over."

"The current Venturi V-512 is a strong, very well built piece of machinery, thanks to it's amazing teams of designers." "I think we are keeping things more or less the same around the aero department, at least for now."

"The Bridgestone tyre is also getting kept. It's properties are amazing, and it fits the V-512 mentality perfectly."

"All I can say, all of Norway is very much looking forward to this venture, and to a prosperous life in the process". Ohlin concluded.

"The track safety, facilities were all fine - but I think severe improvements need to be made on the layout. The esses are just deadly, and they are poorly thought out. I think they need to be cut out, and a new, short layout for As Fartway needs to be done." "I don't think it needs to be kicked out of the calendar, but merely revamped to better safety standards, as there is a market for this kind of race."

Tomo Kazama is available for any team looking for a replacement driver.
The same applies to Du Lon, if Euromotor agree.

As Fartway Owner Under Pressure
The owner of the Scandinavian GP circuit, Bjorn Bettenheim, has been under pressure to redevelop the As Fartway circuit, as several people have criticised it as being, 'too dangerous'. Mr Bettenheim has considered three options:
1. The circuit remains in its existing configuration, but it will be removed from the calendar. 2. Use the short circuit or 3. Use the proposals suggested by aspiring track designer Gertrand Bachot. Mr Bachot has been called 'the next Hermann Tilke' and was very keen to put forward his proposals. The decision on the track is expected to be made by the next race st Belgium, but officials say the decision will take as long as it needs to.

L'Equipe wrote:Voeckler will not return to As Fartway, says team owner

Voeckler-Renault have made their final appearance at the As Fartway circuit, according to their team owner Jeremy-Etienne Voeckler.

The Norwegian round of the AR World Series was marred by a string of violent accidents, which caused serious injury to the Voeckler team's lead driver Phillippe Nicolas. His team-mate Dan Greenlaw was also eliminated in a high speed accident, though escaped unharmed.

"This track does not meet modern safety standards, and as such, Voeckler will no longer attend any race meetings scheduled to take place here," said Jeremy-Etienne.

JE Voeckler is a respected figure in the paddock, having been crowned Formula 1 world champion during its highly dangerous turbo era. Despite the risks he put himself through, he insists he does not expect his drivers to put themselves on the line in the same way as they had done this weekend ever again.

"It was unacceptable, a shambles. The marshalling was dreadful. We are lucky someone is not dead. This cannot continue.

"My hope is this event will be removed from the calendar in future years. If for some reason, maybe commercial,
political or due to bribery, it stays on the calendar, I guarantee that Voeckler-Renault will not be present."
