Coventry are purchasing two O.S.C.A.'s F156A from O.S.C.A, for a sum of £55,000.

These two O.S.C.A's will then be given to Cooper, as agreed with This.

And in a very strange turn of events, Cooper Car Company will enter the Monaco GP with
Reg Parnell - OSCA (chassis tba) - Climax FPF IV engine 4
Maria Teresa De Filippis - OSCA (chassis TBA) - Climax FPF IV engine 3

I will edit the post when chassis designations are confirmed.

John Cooper could not be reached for comments. It has been rumoured that Reg Parnell has singlehandedly arranged this deal.

On the OSCA part of the deal, (pi) if it helps, i could re-name the team as Reg Parnell Racing and then leave Cooper being for what it is. As it would stand then, Lotus would have the full rights to that car, and Reg Parnell Racing was a serious privateer on its own behalf. Whatever Lotus plans to do with it... that's their issue now.
On the Climax part of the deal: (miguel) that's why i always ask you to write concrete contractual terms and numbers. Next time i'll advise you to let your contracts be made and doublechecked by someone else. One thing i never got to complain about was the clarity of the contract demacolypsenow helped me forge with Maserati.

As for the moment, i will continue the season with the material we have (so we enter our coopers instead of the Oscas, the newest for parnell and the oldest for De felippis) and will ask our old pals Maserati for help (for a fair price) in the races where we need a third car, until a proper solution is found.

OSCA have no problem supplying cars to Reg Parnell Racing, as we have many customer teams. It would just have been nonsensical from a storyline point of view to supply cars to a competing chassis manufacturer.

I agree on that. Miguels proposal to run OSCA's of all things did make me frown my eyebrows quite a bit as well, but i assumed he double-checked all of it.
Then we're gonna leave the deal as it were intented, but John Cooper retreats from F1 to focus on F2 and the IP rights to the T41 (33%) will be given to the highest bidder. If no bidder can be found before France, Maserati gets em for free.. I sugggest trading the IP rights (33%) for a third car (so i have a little independence from Climax, should he get tangled up in his plansagain) Meanwhile Reg Parnell, who's not getting any younger, takes over the running of the actual team, leaving no conflict of interest with manufacturers anymore.

This would also mean all deals with Climax can be honoured, and they somehow pull it off.

The racing world mourns once again May 13th 1957

The world of motorsport is once again in shock following a horrific accident in yesterday's Mille Miglia road race. 70 kilometres outside of Brescia, the works Ferrari of Eugenio Castellotti and Edmund Nelson left the road. The car hit a milestone, careened into a ditch and was sent to the other side of the road where many spectators were watching the race. Castellotti and Nelson were killed instantly, as were 9 spectators.

Castellotti was one of the most promising young drivers in sportscars and Formula 1, where he had been driving for Gordini. With the Italian's tragic death at the age of 26 occurring just days from the Monaco Grand Prix, it is unlikely that a replacement can be found.

This accident is also very likely to have a heavy impact on the motorsport scene, as safety concerns surrounding the race had been floating for years. With this accident and the safety campaigning of Piero Taruffi, this may be the final nail in the coffin of the Mille Miglia.

The race was won by Wolfgang von Trips in a Ferrari 315 Sport.

May 18th 1957, Monaco Grand Prix qualifying

In Morocco, B.C.M.A. demonstrated the fact that they have by far the quickest combination this year, and Jack Brabham confirmed his status as the fastest driver. And yet, he retired halfway through the race, leaving Robert Manzon to take his fifth Grand Prix win after Collins and Hawthorn hit trouble. Gordini therefore have the early lead, but this season is a long one. Anything can still happen.

Last year's Monaco Grand Prix went similarly to Morocco, with Brabham dominating until retiring. This year, Desmond Titterington isn't there to profit, and the car that failed was a Gordini. Can the defending champion bounce back and beat the 28 other contenders for the victory?

-René Bonnet has decided that the Anfa humiliation wasn't something to repeat at the even smaller Monaco circuit. He may return at a later date.
-Only Mikhail Metelev will represent the Soviet motherland this weekend, but rumours are rife that the government-backed Volga team is planning to run as many as 8 drivers in the German Grand Prix.
-Following the tragic death of Eugenio Castellotti a week ago in the Mille Miglia, Gordini were unable to find a suitable replacement at such short notice, and thus will only enter Manzon and Bonnier.
-Giulio Cabianca joins the trio of Sanesi, Maglioli and Gaze at Ferrari, the four-car squad aiming for at least a podium to begin the European season.
-Cooper's start to the European season, marred by an increasing lack of funds, sees the appearance of Maria Teresa de Filippis alongside Reg Parnell, who is rumoured to be taking over the team in the near future. This is seen by many insiders to only be delaying the inevitable.
-Scuderia Centro Sud make their first entry of the season, entering the pair of Hans Herrmann and Juan Manuel Fangio, who is surely reaching the end of his career.
-Louis Chiron, undeterred by being 57 years of age, has loaned a works Gordini to enter his home race for what may not even be the final time. He doesn't know when to give up!

With 29 entries and 20 grid spots, there will not be a prequalifying session, but 9 drivers will watch Sunday's race from the grandstands. Who will they be?

May 19th 1957, Monaco Grand Prix

Collins, Brabham and Moss had terrific starts, but this was overshadowed by an impressive crash in which Graham Hill clipped a straw bale on the approach to Sainte-Dévote and was launched into a series of cartwheels. Hill was ejected from the car and landed on some more straw, preventing any major injuries, and he limped to the nearby hospital unassisted. Meanwhile, Collins took the early lead from Brabham, Moss and Manzon. Consalvo Sanesi parked his Ferrari on the entrance to the tunnel on the second lap with a burnt clutch, while Brabham immediately started to attack Collins' lead. On the third lap, Brabham sold the perfect dummy into Mirabeau, taking the lead, with Collins falling behind Moss on the following lap. On the sixth lap, Brabham had a spin at the Gasworks hairpin. He kept the engine running, but fell behind Moss and Collins, who banged wheels trying to avoid him.

Brabham kept on losing ground, falling behind González, while Manzon pulled into the pits with a drained oil tank. Moss was having issues extending his lead, and Collins and González were staying close to him. On lap 17, Collins passed Moss and took back the race lead. Moss quickly fell behind González and Brabham, who caught Collins and engaged in a battle for the lead. After a few laps, Moss caught them again, eventually taking second place on lap 29, ahead of Brabham and González, with Collins still leading. Gaze and Hawthorn, lapping much faster than everyone else, easily caught the group around lap 30, but failed to initially find a way past. Further ahead, Moss took the race lead on lap 33, just when Hawthorn finally broke into the top four. Moss' lead didn't last, though, when Collins passed him at the Chicane on the very next lap. Hans Herrmann retired soon after in a heavy accident, spinning at Tabac and reversing his car into the staircase next to the circuit.

Gaze was finally getting a move on, passing González, Hawthorn, then Brabham, who had just lost second place to Moss. Gaze was therefore in third place by lap 41, while Collins was finally beginning to pull away a decent lead. Brabham then passed Gaze and Moss again to take back second place. As Brabham pulled away a bit, Moss, Gaze and Hawthorn started driving erratically, but always attempting to keep everyone behind. This allowed for the formation of a long train of cars consisting of González, Maglioli, Volonterio, Hamilton and Bonnier. This battle became a fight for second place on lap 50 when Peter Collins' B.C.M.A. ground to a halt with gearbox failure. A few laps later, Tony Gaze began losing ground, eventually grinding to a halt in his pits with steering failure. Maglioli dutifully picked up the job of Ferrari lead driver, passing Hawthorn and Volonterio to take third place.

Brabham started to lose some ground, eventually losing the lead to Stirling Moss on lap 59. He dropped back a bit, holding up Maglioli and giving Volonterio the opportunity to leap up into second place, behind Moss. As the fights raged on, Volonterio could carry on gaining ground, and he took the race lead on lap 68. He and Moss led the field by some margin, while Brabham, Maglioli and Hawthorn fought for third place out of 13, as Fangio's engine had expired. Moss regained the lead on lap 78, but his Swiss teammate got his own back two laps later! A bit further behind, Jack Brabham crashed out at the chicane, ending up with his rear wheels dangling out into the harbour, a scene that would make for one of F1's most spectacular photographs. This left a massive fight for third place, with Maglioli, Hamilton, Hawthorn and Bonnier involved, and Marimón, Cabianca, González and Trintignant not far behind.

Moss took the lead once more on lap 84, and this time set about increasing it. Bira soon retired with a gearbox failure, leaving 11 cars still running. The fight for third quickly settled down with Hawthorn ahead of Hamilton and Maglioli, but the last true action was at the very front. On lap 94, Moss made a mistake in front of the Casino, allowing Volonterio to take the lead once more. However, Moss remained the faster of the two drivers and took the lead once more on lap 96. He never looked back, setting fast lap after fast lap while Volonterio had to nurse his car to the finish. Mike Hawthorn would eventually finish third, with Duncan Hamilton just behind him. Maglioli and Marimón were the last points finishers.

1. Stirling Moss (O.S.C.A.) 3:01:09.33
2. Ottorino Volonterio (O.S.C.A.) +1:31.30
3. Mike Hawthorn (B.C.M.A.) +2 laps

Motorsport Magazine, 22nd May 1957 wrote:Hampshire Racing Alliance finally confirm F1 plans

The absence of any activity from David Hampshire's Hampshire Racing Alliance outfit and workshops over the winter of 1956 was troubling to many in the Formula One paddock as preparations began in earnest. Whilst success on the road had been fleeting at best, a fortuitous 2nd place in the 1955 Grand Prix of France masking many failed attempts at qualifying for subsequent races, the team had quietly become one of the more respected outfits in motorsport. With rumours that recent events in Suez had damaged the team's cashflow, or that the grisly deaths of three drivers in the past twelve months had driven Hampshire to retirement.

But now, Hampshire Racing Alliance will reveal their 1957 plans. It has transpired that the team's absence from the Anfa and Monaco rounds of the championship were intentional, and that the team will begin its 1957 campaign at Reims on June 16th. However, it would appear that the team will scale back to a single car entry for David Hampshire, with Roy Salvadori moving to sportscars for the time being.

Hampshire Racing Alliance would like to purchase an O.S.C.A. F156A chassis, and a Vanwall VE2 engine. All engines and chassis currently in our inventory will be sold to private collectors.

O.S.C.A. F156A chassis 16 will be sent to Hampshire for 27,500.

Furthermore, O.S.C.A. have agreed with Scuderia Centro Sud to run Fangio in the upcoming races as a replacement for the injured Graham Hill. In return, O.S.C.A. will pay for the repair of F156A chassis 1, and build a new O.S.C.A. 1557 engine that will be loaned to Centro Sud free of charge until the end of the season.
