F&S will have another change of plans. We will withdraw our entries from Germany and Austria, and instead enter Belgium, with Gijs van Lennep and Roelof Wunderink as drivers. We'll look at funding for the Netherlands after Belgium

Pre-Qualifying
Image
Despite a heartened effort that saw Jackie Pretorious' Gunston go with a second of Hans-Joachim Stuck's Penske, neither privateer made it through to main qualifying.
1) Fittipaldi-Ford 2:24.693
2) Boro-Ford 2:25.701
3) Penske-Alfa Romeo 2:26.928
4) Lola-Ford (Gunston) 2:29.013
5) Lola-Ford (Lucky Strike) 2:29.443

Despite the extra power from the Alfa Romeo, Stuck couldn't haul his Penske onto the grid. Joining him on the sidelines for the race is Gianfranco Brancatelli

Race

Fastest Lap: Jody Scheckter 1:15.842

What a race. The Ferraris swept into the lead and were off, trading positions as the laps went by. The McLarens were leapfrogged by the Lotus of Andretti, and fell further and further behind the lead. Retirements were aplenty, Merzario having a rather silly off at T1, before retiring in the pits. Lauda hwas holding the lead dicing through backmarkers, when his engine blew, handing Scheckter the lead. The crowd went wild, as Scheckter now had a thirty second lead.

But it wasn't to be - the South African's engine blew too, and he pulled up in front of the grandstand at the foot of the hill, wearing a South African flag thrown by the fans. Andretti inherited the lead, and with only a 15 seconds lead and roughly 20 laps to go, a lot would be needed to hold on for victory. Reutemann fought past Peterson, Nurmester, and Laffite to claw Andretti in, and with 12 laps to go, passed the Lotus for the lead. Second place was stripped from Mario due to a puncture, the resulting pitstop sending him to fourth, behind Nurmester.

And what a debut from the Brit. Qualifed 8th, ahead of his team mate for a good chunk of the race, made it hard for Reutemann to pass, and then picked up a podium. Francois Migault, meanwhile, pitted early for tyres which sent him to the back, but by the end of the race he'd caught von Gottorp and was within 1 lap of scoring points by the end.

An absolute thriller of a race.

Drive of the Race: Thomas Nurmester
Reject of the Race: Ferrari Engines/Patrick Neve

1976 United States West Grand Prix
The teams and drivers rolled into sunny Long Beach for the third round of the 1976 season. Ferrari arrive looking for a win, whilst Parnelli and Berta arrive hoping to make the grid.

Pre-Qualifying
Image
1) Fittipaldi-Ford 2:53.112
2) Penske-Alfa Romeo 2:55.739
3) Parnelli-Ford 2:56.079
4) Boro-Ford 2:56.389
5) Berta-BRM 3:00.096

An absolutely amazing lap from Johncock on his Formula One debut propels Parnelli into main qualifying. Parnelli will be expecting more from Unser.

Jacques Laffite found the sweet spot to post a lap just 6 thousandths of a second shy of Scheckter's Ferrari. Lauda starts third and Reutemann 4th, in what will be a close race. At the other end of the grid, both Penske and Parnelli see a car DNQ - Stuck racks up his second DNQ in a row, whilst Parnelli star man Johncock could not string a lap together. Team mate Unser will start 24th.

Race

Fastest Lap: Jacques Lafitte 1:24.567

Another thriller of a race here in Long Beach. Scheckter made a great getaway to retain the lead into the first corner, with the rest of the field getting around safely. Laffite was second, Reutemann in third and Lauda trailing him in fourth position. Lauda could not find a way past Reutemann, so pitted early for tyres, and proceeded to set blistering lap times. Scheckter and Laffite pitted to rejoin behind Lauda, but Reutemann stayed out for another 10 laps, but rejoined behind all three of the early pitters.

Lauda now led by 5 seconds from Scheckter just over half-distance, but it wasn't long before Lauda was in the pits again to change tyres, tumbling to fourth. Scheckter and Lafitte also pitted, but Reutemann stayed out, leaving the Argentine in the lead, with Lauda gaining in second, Scheckter third, and Lafitte fourth.

With less than 20 laps to go as he was looking likely to pass Reutemann and win the race, Niki picked up a race-ending puncture and pulled over to the side of the track, aghast. Scheckter was now up to second position, and in the remaining laps caught and passed Reutemann for the race and championship lead.

Drive of the race: Niki Lauda, great strategy that would've seen him win the race.
Reject of the race: Mario Andretti, off the pace all weekend

Pre-Qualifying
After the first shuffle of the season, Fittipaldi would not appear in the session, forcing Emerson and co. to entertain themselves in other ways. Boro and Penske would remain, joined by Hesketh. Three new teams attempt to Pre-Qualify today - the British constructors Thistle and Wheatcroft, alongside mysterious Italian constructor Dywa, whose boxy chassis is paired with a Renzo engine.

1) Boro-Ford - 2:32.494
2) Hesketh-Ford - 2:32.971
3) Penske-Alfa Romeo - 2:33.260
4) Thistle-Ford - 2:35.023
5) Wheatcroft-BRM - 2:38.329
6) Dywa-Renzo - 2:40.731

Boro, Hesketh and Penske all advance to main qualifying.

1976 Spanish Grand Prix & XXVIII BRDC International Trophy

Race
Image

Fastest lap: Niki Lauda, 1:15.861
Drive of the race - Vittorio Brambilla: Kept the car on the road and got the measure of his team-mate to finish 5th, the best result thus far for March.
Reject of the race - Teddy Pilette: Spun the Ligier into the gravel trap to end his race whilst running 7th. Attempted to get the car out of the gravel despite the marshal gesticulating furiously, but was unable to budge and was forced to concede defeat. Shocking driving from the Belgian.

A masterclass from Niki Lauda saw him take his first victory of the year at Jarama. Leading from the start, he pitted before Scheckter for new tyres, whilst the South African stayed out. He caught and passed Scheckter, and pulled out so much of a lead, he could afford to pit again, avoiding a repeat of Long Beach. He cruised away from Scheckter to win the race comfrotably.

Upgrades
Upgrades will be available before Round 5. Upgrades are not yet open, as I will be revising the system, so keep posted for that.

XXVIII BRDC International Trophy
The preimer non-championsip F1 race will again return to Silverstone for the 28th running of the event. There are 28 spots up for grabs, and entries are now open!

FOCA teams must enter 2 cars, but entries for FOCA teams are capped to 6 teams. These 12 entries will be kept aside for FOCA entries.

Privateer teams must also enter 2 cars, all remaining entries are open to Privateers.

In addition, you may enter non-championship, F2/F3 teams. These teams may run one or two cars, but are limited to using the March 761 chassis and Ford Cosworth '75 engines. These teams will not be assigned budgets, but any prize money earnt will be kept for if/when they enter F1 (or Aurora) proper. The number of one car teams must be even when entries close (GP2 purposes), so I reserve the right to remove any entry to make the simulation work.

Entries will be assigned on a first-come first-serve basis.

A flat travel fee of £15,000 will apply to both FOCA teams and privateers, so please bear this in mind. FOCA and Privateer teams are limited to using their current chassis and engines.

Any driver currently signed to drive for all races for a team (including privateers) will automatically race for you if you so wish in the Trophy. You are free to sign different drivers, however, they will be subject to an RNG. Drivers for non-champiosnhip teams will also be subject to RNG. Wages do not have to be paid to any driver competing in a non-championship grand prix. However, injuries may still occur.

Please use the following forms for submitting entries:

Clay Regazzoni
He had hoped to continue with Ferrari for 1976, but has been left out in the cold. He's by no means done with Formula One yet so is very interested in this Williams offer, even if it is for less money than he had set out for.

1-80 Williams
81-100 Rejects
78 - Clay signs with Wolf-Williams.

Mike Wilds
Wilds is itching to get back into the Formula One cockpit, even for a non-championship race.

1-95 P R Reilly
95-100 Rejects
66

Bobby Unser
Unser was pleased with his F1 debut, and whilst he'd love to get into (slightly faster) machinery, he's less than thrilled about the prospect of missing the first two days of practice for the Indy 500.

1-20 Penske
21-100 Rejects to focus on Indy 500
21

Brett Lunger
Lunger has no qualms competing in the International Trophy for Penske.

1-99 Penske
100 Rejects to do some gardening
76

Michel Leclere
Leclere is also happy to compete for Shadow.

1-99 Shadow
100 Rejects to eat some snails

Team Name: Scuderia Ferrari
Number: #1
Driver #1: Niki Lauda (AUT)

Number: #2
Driver #1: Patrick Depailler (FRA)
Driver #2: Jody Sheckter (RSA)

We'd like to invite Depailler to race for us in the non-championship race, and make clear that if his performance is sufficient comparative to Lauda, he will be the team's first port of call should a replacement be needed for any unfortunate circumstance that may befall our regular drivers. To make clear to Jody, as the current championship leader, we want to protect his position as much as possible by avoiding any potential injury from an accident in an NC race, and Depailler is not being considered as any sort of replacement for him.

Autosprint wrote:Di Montezemolo surprised at Depailler's absence from grid

Scuderia Ferrari team manager Luca di Montezemolo, finally able to avoid questions about his own team after their 1-2 in Jarama, turned his attention to stories elsewhere on the grid, with the current news focused on those drivers currently out of a drive, having seen Ferrari refugee Clay Regazzoni join Wolf-Williams mid-season.

One particular driver many are surprised to see on the sidelines is Patrick Depailler, who spent last year at Tyrrell alongside current Ferrari driver Jody Sheckter. Di Montezemolo weighed in on the subject himself.

"I am surprised he is not somewhere in the field," he said. "We have a shortlist of drivers we feel are capable of racing for La Scuderia, and he was on this list. Of course, Sheckter had the slight edge on him at Tyrrell, but I feel he is still a potential race winning driver, so to see him without any team this season is an anomaly."

When pressed on the Frenchman's chances of joining La Scuderia in the future, the Ferrari chief made clear no-one was on their radar immediately, but in the long term he was one of many possibilities.

"We are extremely happy with our current line-up, one I hope remains stable for several seasons. Both are contracted until the end of next year, so there will be no changes before that. But for sure, if Depailler is free and we are in a position were a driver is needed for whatever reason, he will be one of the first people to call."

Re: Upgrades

Post by pasta_maldonado »

There is currently one free International Trophy entry slot for FOCA teams, whilst I only have three entries from Privateers and F2/F3 teams. I don't think I clarified this, but the travel costs for the race are calculated from where your team currently is at the moment - for everyone who entered into Spain, that's Southern Europe, so the Trophy travel costs are £20k. You have until 6:00 PM GMT Thursday to post your entries for the Trophy. If there is still open entry slots, I will fill them with Privateers and F2/F3 teams. As always, these teams will be available for anyone to take over.

Upgrades
Upgrades can be bought in three slots - the first one (current) after Round 4, the second one after round 8, and the third one after round 11. However, each upgrade is part of an upgrade set, and once you have purchased an upgrade from a set you are committed to that set. For instance, purchasing an Alpha upgrade in slot 1 commits you to the Alpha plan, whereas purchasing nothing in the first slot and then purchasing a Zeta upgrade in the second slot commits you to the Zeta plan. The price listed is per upgrade, so for a plan with two upgrades, the final cost to you will be twice the price listed. Upgrades are purchased individually, i.e. an Alpha in slot one charges you £50,000. If purchasing an upgrade means your team will go into debt, the upgrade cannot be purchased, and you cannot change plan to compensate for this. Each upgrade has a range for DF and Build Quality, and a RNG will be run to determine the final upgrade strength.

A team can only purchase upgrades for a chassis they constructed themselves.

All upgrade information is available on this spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is always available in the first tab of the first google sheet in the second post of this thread.

You have until 24:00 GMT Thursday 15th December to submit your upgrade plans, using the following form.

Well, sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands!

F2 entry
Name: Project Four Racing (GBR)
Number: 50
Driver: Harvey Jones (GBR)

Number: 51
Driver: Eddie Cheever (USA)

If the RNG is a bitch for Cheever then I'll just run one car.
I want my MTV...Simtek Ford

BRDC International Trophy RNG

Eddie Cheever
1-65 Accepts Project Four offer
66-100 Rejects to focus on F2 season
77 Eddie does not yet feel ready for Formula One machinery, even in a non-championship event.

All other International Trophy RNGs were successful.

28th BRDC International Trophy

Post by pasta_maldonado »

Entry List
13 teams and 26 drivers will compete for the 28th running of the annual BRDC International Trophy over 40 laps at Silverstone. Less full-time World Championship teams will compete, those being Ferrari, Brabham, Shadow, March and Penske. All but Ferrari will bring updated cars to the event, but Ferrari will be running Patrick Depailler in his first Formula One event of 1976.

Wheatcroft Racing and Maki will also make the journey for the non-championship event, with all eyes on the Japanese Maki chassis. ATS Wheels, Project Four Racing, Melechester Racing, Goldie Hexagon Racing, Durex Theodore Racing, LEC Refrigeration Racing, Team P R Reilly and RAM Racing are the F2/Group 8 Shellsport representation on the entry list. All entrants will qualify for the race.

28th BRDC International Trophy

Race

Fastest Lap: Niki Lauda 1:12.118

Depailler got the better start and was ahead into Copse, as the rest of the field managed to make it through unscathed - except for Lunger, who hit someone and was forced to pit for repairs. Lauda had the better run down the Hangar straight and sliped past Depailler for the lead. Depailler would give chase, but his race was run on lap 14 as his engine cried enough. Lombardi led from lap 19 until lap 23, after Lauda's pitstop, when Tom Pryce inherited the lead for half a lap with Lauda right on his gearbox. The Austrian re-took the lead and disappeared off into the distance to win the race by 34 seconds over Lombardi. Disappointment for James Hunt who retired less than 10 laps into the race after a promising start.

Injury RNG
Guy Edwards
1-70 No injury
70-90 Out for one race
91-99 Out for two races
100 Out for three races
16 - Edwards emerges unscathed from a minor collision with Fushida's Maki.
