2009 Virtual BTCC- Season Over!- Vote for ROTY!

Post by This Could Be You »

This is my first attempt at running an series so lets see how this goes:

2009 (Yes, it's a random year to start with, but hey) Virtual BTCC:
This series uses Grand Prix 2, and a RNG and credit based bidding/upgrade system (I have very little idea of how much a S2000 touring car costs!), with real-life BTCC/WTCC chassis and drivers. However, to spice up the action (read: to work around GP2's quirks) there are some deviations from real life:
[*]There will be 3 seperate qualifying sessions for each race, hence no Reverse grid in Race 3 per se, but the top ten will be slowed down in Quali-3 to have a similar effect
[*] To account for the 26-car grids of GP2, a pre-qualifying session will occur, with bottom 5 teams fighting it out for two slots in qualifying proper, for all three proper quali sessions.
[*] Teams can only be two cars, no more, no less.
[*] Also, there are a few 2008 teams, such as Seat, so it isn't just a dull grid full of Integras
Now for the team info:

It's good to see so many people entering- I thought this series would bomb! If you're wondering when you will be able to place bids, I'm trying to wait until we have at least 13 teams (and hence a full grid) before then, although all teams filled would be best.

(Forgot about that) Well if you have a selection outside the list, they must have competed in the real BTCC or similar touring car series (WTCC/STCC/CTCC/Clio Cup etc...) at some point between 2007-11 and be over 18 as of 01/01/09. A RNG will decide whether they will accept. Is that OK?

Also, I will work out a price for any non-listed drivers you have suggested but haven't priced and place them on the list ( I honestly didn't expect you guys to choose so obscurely), to ease budget calculations. For those who have priced their non-listed driver, I will use your prices, as they seem reasonable. If you disagree with my non-listed driver pricings, feel free to complain and place your own prices, which I will evaluate.

Just a couple of points- first that you can have three chassis options, not just one (you are not a constructor) (it may be worth doing just in case you lose out on the RNG) , and second is that you should consider using some listed drivers as it makes my life easier and your team more realistic (you currently have no British drivers)

Okay, will fix up the car options in a moment. And I know it's odd not to have any British drivers, but they are all drivers who were racing in Britain at the time I think

I have looked up your drivers and while they are all just about age eligible, none of them have touring car racing experience, which makes it hard to generate talent files (no recent F3 carsets for GP2) and will also mean that they may struggle to adapt to racing in the BTCC, at least for the first few races. If they do accept (remember, that's not a given) I'll have to improvise based on what I know about BTCC form regarding F3 drivers (Kelvin Burt, Rob Austin and Andy Priaulx= good, Marc Hynes= not so good). This is just a warning though- you don't have to change your driver selections, I'm just trying to help- who knows, your idea may work!

That's much better- I'll work out the prices for your non-listed drivers soon. Thanks!

Updated my driver bids otherwise if a had got my first choices i would have bankrupted the team before the racing started.

I am still waiting for BTC Racing, Team Dynamics, and Eurotech's bids (as well as my own- unless someone else joins, I will babysit TH to complete the grid) before I start the bidding.

Also, if you go over-budget, find out your car is a dog (and hence needs significant, expensive upgrades) or that your driver(s) is useless during the season, you can employ a new driver (or buy a new chassis if you are an independent) during the season, though you will have to pay full price for them (Of course if it's a pay driver you need, you won't be paying anything). Just try not to have a Team HARD/ 888 in 2010 -style revolving door of drivers & chassis please.
