Alt-F3000: TMUSB - 1989 Season: Season Complete

Posted: 30 Aug 2016, 03:26
by TomWazzleshaw
Hello and welcome to the new and (allegedly) improved Alt-F3000 series. After a close-fought 1988 season resulted in a championship victory for Martin Donnelly, 12 of the original 13 teams will return to do battle again in 1989. Joining them will be the DAMS team rising from the ashes of the GBDA operation, and Keith Wiggan's Pacific Racing, bringing the field up to a total of 28 cars.

All teams have had a hard reset from 1988 to account for the changeover, but existing owners have first dibs on retaining their existing teams should they choose to do so. People on the waiting list will then be contacted about open teams to select from. The teams list is as follows:

Re: Alt-F3000: The Mad Uncle Strikes Back - 1989 Season

The Rules

General Rules

- Each team must enter 2 cars at all races. They do NOT have to be the same chassis type, but they MUST use the same engine.

- Points are 9-6-4-3-2-1 and all points count to the title.

- Teams that are in the red once the season has finished and all prize money distributed will be declared bankrupt. The next person on the waiting list will then have the opportunity to move up into the series.

Marketplace

- The Marketplace for 1989 will open once all team spots are filled

- Each team must purchase a minimum of two chassis and two engines. You may purchase more as necessary, but no team can own more than three chassis at any one time.

- As with last year, every manufacturer has a set number of chassis available at the start of the year, but more will become available randomly as the year goes along, so keep an eye out for them.

- There are an unlimited number of engines available from each manufacturer.

- Due to the boom of the used F3000 car market with the birth of British F3000 and Formula Holden, and the growth of Japanese F3000, resale values of cars have increased substantially. At the end of the season, teams can sell their chassis for the following resale values:
1989-spec: 70% of new value
1988-spec: 60% of new value
1987-spec: 50% of new value

- If the car is sold in a damaged state, repair costs will be deducted from the sale price.

- Teams are also free to do private sales or lease deals among themselves

Damage

- The big difference from last year is the abolishing of the wear system. Instead, a modified version of the damage system used in Tommykl's Alt-F1 will be adopted.

- For every race-ending accident or collision that a driver is involved in, an RNG will be rolled depending on the severity of the crash. The categories are as follows:
Category 1: 0-25% the cost of the chassis
2: 20-45%
3: 40-65%, 5% of driver injury
4: 60-85%, 5% chance of a write-off, 10% of driver injury
5: 80-105%, 10% chance of a write-off, 20% of driver injury
(For reference, the vast majority of accidents will be in the 1-2 range)

- For each mechanical failure caused by an oil leak, water leak or outright engine failure, a similar RNG will be run. The range will be from 0-105, with any value over 100 being considered a total write-off. Any engine that is deemed a write-off will have a residual scrap value of 10% of original value.

- All damage must be repaired before each race, or a spare car can be entered in its place.

Aging

At the end of each season, chassis will undergo aging to reflect their growing obsolescence. As the chassis system has been adopted from ARWS, aging will be as follows:

1989-Spec Car
1 Year (start of 1990): -3 DF, +2 Handling, +1000 CFP
2 Years (1991): -2 DF, -1 Handling, +1500 CFP
3 Years (1992): Trust me, you don't want to know

1988-Spec Car
1 Year (1990): -2 DF, -1 Handling, +1500 CFP
2 Years (1991): See 3 years for 1989-spec cars

1987-Spec Cars
1 Year (1990): Good luck to you. You're gonna need it

Prize Money

- Prize Money Structure will remain unchanged from 1988. As a reminder, the following prize money will be distributed each race:

Code: Select all

Pos    Prize Money
1st   £20,000
2nd   £15,000
3rd   £10,000

7th-10th   £4,000
11th-15th   £3,000
16th-26th   £2,500
DNQ £1,000

- At the end of the season, each team will receive the following prize money, determined by their placing in a teams' championship:

Code: Select all

Pos    Prize Money
1st   £500,000
2nd   £450,000

Glad to see this series will continue, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to bow out. As I mentioned previously in the 'nipping out' thread, I want to cut down on my involvement in the canon, so I'd like to extend my wishes of good luck to Wizzie in the running of the series, and to whoever takes control of Jordan - I do hope they can maintain the success achieved by the team in 1988.

Duly noted, but as an FYI, both Getz and Kevin would have had priority for Pacific, as they're ahead on the waiting list. Since they picked different teams anyway, it's all good now.

While we wait for the remaining teams to be confirmed, here's a preview of the chassis and engine market for 1989 (Link here). The market is currently NOT OPEN, and will not open until all teams are filled and I give notification of the market opening.

Performance works much the same as the ARWS. All entries will first be given a base grip and random grip range level, which then has downforce and handling added to it. Downforce over level 5 adds to grip, and subtracts below level 5. Handling levels over 5 offer a better RGR, and levels below five offer a worse RGR.

Drivers will also add or subtract to the base performance, and a combination of the two will provide a car's final performance. A very good driver can overcome a mediocre car, while a poor driver will not be able to maximise the potential of a good car, but more on that when the driver market opens.
