2018 North American F4- Season Complete!

2018 North American Formula 4 Championship

Wiki: http://formularejects.com/wiki/2018_North_American_Formula_4_season

Cars
The cars will be the same as in real life US Formula 4. The chassis are by Crawford Composites and will be powered by Honda K20C2 engines for the first few seasons, as Honda will update the engine later on. Updates will be provided free of charge for any issues the car develops chronically throughout the season.

Drivers
Real life and fictional drivers are allowed. I would like at least some real-life drivers in the series, but I will
not be putting any restrictions on the use of fictional drivers. Real-life drivers will be chosen through an RNG to seeif they accept an offer or not. For fictional drivers please put the DEC of the owner and any background in regards to previous series.

North and Central American drivers will take first priority, though drivers from the Caribbean and the rest of the Americas are welcome more often than not. Drivers from any other region must have a pretty good story reason to race in this, otherwise they will be rejected. This series is meant for drivers in the Americas to start their careers, so please be reasonable with driver choices.

As with Simtek's F4 series, any driver that races in more senior categories will likely NOT be accepted. F4 is designed to be a first taste of motorsport for drivers leaving karting. Drivers are likely to be between 15 and 20 years old, but I will take them case-by-case.

Teams
The series will have 26 drivers spread through 13 teams. If 26 drivers and teams cannot be reached then I will allow 3-car teams. Teams should be based in North America, Central America, or the Caribbean, and those nationalities will get first priority over teams from any other region of the world.

No constructors championship will be held for this series, only one for drivers.

Race Weekend
A race weekend is over two days, with each day having a 30 minute qualifying session followed by a race around 25 miles long.

Points will follow the F4 standard set by the Anglo-Irish championship:

1st: 15
2nd: 12
3rd: 10
4th: 8
5th: 6
6th: 5
7th: 4
8th: 3
9th: 2
10th: 1
Pole Position: 2

Penalties
Drivers that perform infractions on track, mainly regarding reckless driving and causing collisions, will receive time penalties
based on the severity of the infraction. Severe enough infractions, or repeated accumulation of infractions, will
result in a suspended race ban or full race ban. Two suspended race bans add up to one full race ban.

Calendar
The calendar for the 2018 season will be largely following the Indycar calendar that will be used next year. There are 8 weekends in the season:

*= Supports the Indycar Series

1)*Streets of St. Petersburg (March 8,9)
2)*Barber Motorsports Park (April 26,27)
3)Lime Rock Park (May 6,7)
4)Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (June 2,3)
5)*Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (July 5,6)
6)*Toronto Exhibition Place (July 19,20)
7)*Sonoma Raceway (Indycar Layout) (September 6,7)
8)*Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (September 20,21)

Submissions
To enter this series please use the following layout for submissions below. You can also submit a basic color scheme for the cars (so it will be easier for me to discern the cars on the track), though it's not mandatory. Please send your submissions by 21:00 UTC -8 on August 26. The series may start sooner if all of the spots are filled before the deadline.

16 year-old youngster Shawn DiBenedetto would be interested in the seat.

Tropico Academy is accepting enquiries from interested Tropican nationals who wish to represent their country in world motorsport.

Team Name: Tropico Academy
Nationality: TRO
Car Numbers (1-99): 33/34
(optional) Car colors: Blue base, red/yellow/green accents.

---- First Driver ----
Candidate: Xavier Santillán
Nationality: TRO

---- Second Driver (optional)----
Candidate: Open to offers
Nationality: TRO

I realise it is controversial to have Santillán both here and in AI F4, but a couple of things are worth mentioning. The only calendar clash between US & AI F4 is June 2/3, before Santillán joins the AI F4 series, and on top of that, in real life there is plenty of precedent for drivers competing in multiple F4 series in the same year.

de la Vara is 20 in 2018, so he will likely only be allowed one season before being seen as too old. He can race for 2018, but he won't be allowed to next season.

That puts a ton of strain on Santillán due to jumping back and forth across the Atlantic, especially in the last two rounds that take place in the Western United States (That's a ton of jet lag there!). I would strongly consider against doing this, since the jet lag and constant traveling would result in worse performance.

Also, if you wish to do this, please state if Santillán will be racing here or back in Europe on June 2 and 3, and if he's not racing here, please provide a driver before the race weekend starts.

Alternately, you can just do the first 3 or 4 weekends before moving to the Anglo-Irish series. That seems more plausible for a starting driver to do.

Um, that's exactly what he's doing, he's replacing Priaulx at Christopherson Racing from Kirkistown (June 23/24) onwards. The June 2/3 rounds (Oulton Park) have already been run :P

About the whole double-dutying thing, the only rounds which may cause a problem in this regard are the late September races, with only four days separating the Mondello Park and Laguna Seca rounds. Everything else looks just about manageable to me.

Also, regarding performance, seeing as both series are being run in GP2, I'd naturally like for Santillán's performance to be the same in both series, so Getz, could you give me his performance data when you RNG it? The range I use for the Anglo-Irish series is 15000-15800 for both quali and race grip, and 500-1000 for RGR, just to give you an idea.

I would strongly reccomend that Santillán take one or the other between Mondello Park and Laguna Seca if he wants to do double-dutying.

As for generating stats, yeah I can share his stats with you once they are generated. :)

Umm, Hinchcliffe is certainly competing in a senior series, so you can't use him. Also, using your real name is a bit risky on the Internet, so I would ask you to change your fictional driver's name?

As things stand, I'll probably have him do Laguna Seca rather than Mondello Park, just because (hopefully) he'll have a shot at the title in this series, whereas he's missed too much of the season across the pond to become a factor of any kind.

Alright. Just to make it clear, when the wiki comes up can you post which races he will be doing? It wuld make things easier for all of us.

Naturally. But Laguna Seca is the final race of the year, so I will wait until Donnington Park in AI F4 before making a final decision.

I have decided to vacate one of my team's spots. I will instead move David Luis Chavarria to the Italian F4 championship to race for my Team there. I will post an update on the thread shortly

Two teams are still up for grabs, including one one-car team. Anyone that does not get or does not want a team slot can submit drivers to the remaining driver slots for existing teams.

Thank you V8fan12 and Normal32 for starting the wiki: http://formularejects.com/wiki/2018_North_American_Formula_4_season

You don't have to, but if you do please post an updated post for your entry.

Following an agreement with V8Fan12 via PM, Mexican Driver Angelica Lopez will take the 93 spot for Carrera Granada.

Lopez raced in AR 2.0 last year, a series considered above F4. I'll have to deny this driver from entering.
