2016 Austria - IIDOTR

Post by DemocalypseNow »

As always, it's 10 points to Wehrlei.....ahem, your first pick for Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race, and 6 points for the second choice.

Something tells me this is going to be a fairly easy decision:
1. Wehrlein - I wasn't expecting him to be this competitive this weekend, but he did a cracking job (grid misdemeanours notwithstanding).
2. Button - he also managed to punch quite some way above his weight with his car and took good advantage of his starting grid slot.

"The problem with Grosjean is that he want to take a look back at the corner he's just exited"

Might as well permaban anyone who doesn't have Wehrlein at P1.

Button is second for me, great drive, that should help McLaren keeping their hopes up.

1. Pascal Wehrlein: Absolutely on it all weekend! Manor's best qualifying result and their second points finish ever.
2. Jenson Button: His best race weekend in a long time. One of the biggest qualifying surprises of the season and a good race by McLaren's standards.

1) Pascal Wehrlein - point for Manor, quick thinking to sort his start-line screw-up out, and mixing it with the midfield all day. Pascal, you rascal.

2) Jenson Button - Ace weekend from Button. I don't believe he's thinking of putting his feet up any time soon.

1. Mr and Mrs Wehrlein's son - Pretty easy choice, really.

2. Jenson Button - Was mixing it with the top teams in that shitheap McLaren all day.

Honourable mention to the BBC's radio commentary. I had to catch the first 20 laps on the car radio, and the Tom Clarkson/Allan McNish duo were pretty damn good. Then I got home and had to revert to Brundle and Crofty... :|

1. Wehrlein
2. Button

Both for out-driving their cars potential.

1- Pascal Wehrlein!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1 point is still a point!!
2- Jenson Button- Pity about the car beneath him but probably deserves one last chance in 2017

This ones a sitter

1. Wehrlein, for earning the Bianchi award for dragging a backmarker into the points in the KERs era. And on merit as his Q2 proves
2. Button - unless he had a rotten race he was always going to be here thanks to his quali. But his race was good too

First goes to Pascal Wehrlein, for bullying that Manor into the points.

Second goes to Jenson Button, also for bullying that McLaren into the points.

1) Pascal Wehrlein: A bit obvious, really. Great qualifying on merit, first point and by far the better of the Manor drivers this race.

2) Jenson Button: Good qualifying, even if his starting position owed something to penalties, but he got a decent haul of points for a team that has not been doing well as of late.

2. Pascal Wehrlein - His race was so good he nearly outshone Rio Haryanto.

Ten points: PASCAL WEHRLEIN SCORED A POINT FOR MANOR!

Six points - share them if you must - go to Esteban "Gutiérrez" Gutiérrez for not being quite fast enough by barely a second or so, Sergio "Two Trophies" Pérez for throwing his car in the wall (even if it was unintentional), and Felipe "Varjoina Kuljemme Kuolleiden" Ma(a)ssa for retiring for reasons I still don't know but don't particularly care about, for it is these three who created the perfect storm that meant PASCAL WEHRLEIN SCORED A POINT FOR MANOR!

An honourable mention to Jules Bianchi who has still scored more points in a Manor-Virgin-Marussia-Manor than anyone else, and he didn't have a Mercedes engine at his disposal either.

1. Wehrlein - At one stage he was the only car a lap down, yet still took a point!
2. Grosjean - The Haas had absolutely no pace, yet he still managed to bring it home for a strong finish.

Pascal Wehrlein - Scored a point in a freakin Manor! And probably doomed Sauber to last place this season.

Jenson Button - Outperformed Alonso all weekend and delivered his best race in a McLaren-Honda.

I will first nominate Wehrlein for the obvious and then Button for a very fine GP.

Pascal Wehrlein -- You beautiful human being, you.
Felipe Nasr -- Maybe he's worth something after all...?

Didn't vote for Button because Button did what I expected he would do -- make Nando look like crap and brought the car home with a pretty solid result. I do understand why everyone else did vote for him though.
