F1 Sprint Series, Career (1989-199?)

Post by AxelP800 »

Result from boredom. This will done using rFactor and the newly released 1989 F1 and others as years progresses.

At the end of 1986, FIA announces that turbo engines has become so dangerous and it will be banned from 1989.
In this parallel universe, someone got an idea to make F1's race more action packed, by shortening the races into 60 km! 39 entries shows up for 1989 gives FIA another idea: Allow all cars to run at the same time! With the shakedown of the new rules finished, F1 got a nickname of "Formula 1 Sprint Series". One more turn around: Tracks that have hosted F1 in the past are no longer allowed except some like Monaco. Why? To shake the calendar up.

Calendar (will be filled later):
1. Brazil - Cascavel
2. TBA, near Italy or Argentine
3. Monaco
4. Mexico - TBA
5. USA - Lime Rock Park
6. Canada - Trois
7. France - TBA
8. Great Britain - Thruxton
9. Germany - Nordschleife
10. Czechslovakia - Brno
11. Belgium - Spa
12. Italy - TBA
13. Portugal - TBA
14. Spain - Jerez
15. Japan - TBA
16. Australia - Bathurst

A driver under pseudom "giraty" arrives in 1989 after a third place finish in both F3000 and Japan F3000 with some drives at World Sportscar. Looking for seat, he got a deal with Lola (Larrousse) for 1989. However the team are not ready yet with the new car, and instead run with the updated LC88, called LC88B for Brazil. Larrousse got chassis designed by Lola and engine supplied by Lamborghini with their V12 engine. All looking good into the season.

Race 1 - Cascavel, Brazil

20 teams, 39 drivers arrived in Cascavel in autumn Brazil. Weather is nice, and enthusiasm is mixed. (This time Philippe Streiff will not be injured). Among the new drivers, an interesting driver under pseudom giraty, listing himself as "World nationality" which somehow allowed.

We need screenshots/footage of this, it looks insane.

Also, for your circuit near Hungary, how about Brno?

Where exactly did you get that mod?

I got a 1989 V2 mod which is completely inaccurate. It doesn't have the full driver list, for example just Streiff at AGS and Bernard at Larrousse.

Even more strange, it only has the 1990 Larrousse.

Some info

Tire warmers are banned also. Qualifying is 15 minutes.

Race 2 - Argentine, Autodromo Rio Cuarto

Nice 4 km circuit in Cordoba. Have slow, medium, and fast corners packed into just 9 corners but proved to be challenging, specially turn 4 and 5 complex which you run can't flat-out, but near and must perfect in apex to be quick.

Giraty comes to Argentine looking to improve his weekend. Practice shows speed but traffic blocks him in qualifying which means he started from 22nd. Team-mate Alliot re-uses LC88B since he crashed the new LC89.

Alliot was 8th.

Race

Giraty got a great start, moving into 12th by the end of first lap. On lap 3 he ran wide trying to pass Alliott but the move done on the next lap. He was flying. On lap 5, Winkelhock was moving on the inside of turn 8 inside of running-wide Gachot. Both collided and out!
And then Giraty found himself fighting Boutsen and Johansson several times while Prost had a horrifying accident that put him out for the rest of the season. Thanks to mecanichal attrition, Giraty finished 3rd in just his 2nd race!. Larrousse and of course himself is very delighted indeed.

Giraty wrote:Oh my! Those soft set works superb! It sticks the car on the ground. YEEAHHHHHH!!!

Result
1. Mansell
2. Piquet
3. Giraty
4. Boutsen
5. Alliott
6. Johansson

--I'm not counting constructor cup yet--

Driver standings (only who have scored points)
1. Mansell - 16
2. Winkelhock - 10
3. Piquet - 6
4. Alliot - 5
5. Cheever - 4
6. Giraty - 4
7. Boutsen - 3
8. Nakajima - 2
9. Capelli - 1
10. Johansson - 1

Little highlights :D

McLaren will announce replacement.

Do they even have one back then?
