KL-Racer's F1 2010:ROTY PODIUM FINALLY UP!

Post by KL-racer »

KL’S F1 management: 2010 season

After a yawn fest last season to say the least, when Ferrari managed to get the first ever Perfect season in the history of F1, all of this despite sticking to its guns and not making any updates on its 2009 challenger all season. In other news, Toyota finally pull the plug on all F1 activity including their engine program. In addition, Spyker also pulled out of F1, and as a result MSR happened to be bought out by Mercedes AMG. Despite being named ROTY last year, Renault Engines are still going to be around for 2010, but who’s going to use them? The Lotus name is back in F1 for the first time since the ill-fated 1994 season. This time around, it’s Group Lotus buying out the Renault works team. Not to mention, that we finally have Stefan GP entering the F1 circus after a failed attempt years before. Also, let’s not forget that KERS, which made its debut last season, is mandatory for this season onwards. On the driver’s front Felipe Massa, who finally clinched his first WDC at his home race last season, is back to defend his title. Meanwhile, amongst the teams, Ferrari are your Team champions, and are hoping for more of the same. However, there are many other teams that want this season to be way different than in 2009.

Race Calendar

Once again the race calendar will be 16 races long, but with a couple changes, Donnington Park replaces Silverstone, because the current layout for Silverstone is not available for Grand Prix 2 yet. In addition, Yeongham Circuit in South Korea will make its first appearance on the calendar, replacing the Valencia street circuit. Here’s the order

Melbourne
Sepang
Shanghai
Yeongham
Catalunya
Monaco
Montreal
Donnington Park
Hungaroring
Spa
Monza
Singapore
Suzuka
Interlagos
Bahrain
Abu Dhabi

Points system will still be the same as last season. 20-15-11-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. Also like last season, there can only be 26 cars on the grid for a race. A separate Pre-Q session will take place before the qualifying session initially involving the bottom 10 teams from the previous year, the list will be recalculated after every four races using the bottom 10 teams of the current standings.

Upgrade rules

After much debate, I have decided to revert back to the 2009 system of doing upgrades. You can only post upgrades after Rounds 3, 6, 10 and 13. Of Course, a group test will be conducted after these rounds as well. You can still do one or two areas or double up on one area. Costs are $500k for one area, and $900k for two areas/double up on one area. Just in case, you forgot the areas you could upgrade on here they are.

KERS power: Increases the output of the KERS unit
Reliability: Decreases the rate of part failures
Qualifying Pace: Work with both race drivers to improve their skill in qualifying runs
Race Pace: Work with both race drivers to improve their skill over a full race distance
Aero: Improves the Aero efficiency of the car, so that both drivers can be more consistent

Finally, just to forewarn you guys, the driver stats will be adjusted accordingly. Furthermore, the KERS output for all existing teams will be increased by a RNG from 1-20. For a team that didn’t use KERS for 2009 (Campos and USF1), being bought out by someone else, (Lotus and Mercedes) or entered as a brand-new entry (Stefan GP) the parameters will be set from 60 to 120. Good luck to everyone!

Re: KL-Racer's F1 2010: Lotus available/Bidding instructions

Post by KL-racer »

So with only Lotus available and since it’s been close to two weeks already. I feel that it’s time to post the instructions for the bids.

Bidding Information:

Chassis Bids:

The first step is to build your chassis to meet the latest safety rules. There are 6 tiers of chassis available, but be careful, the cheaper the chassis, the more likely the RNG will throw a bad number at you. Here’s the tiers, the costs and RNG parameters for reliability of each one

Tier 1: $30 million 4000-5000
Tier 2: $25 million 4000-6000
Tier 3: $20 million 4000-7000
Tier 4: $15 million 4000-8000
Tier 5: $10 million 4000-9000
Tier 6: $5 million 4000-10000

Engine Bids:

With both Toyota and Spyker withdrawing from F1. There’s only 6 engine suppliers available. For Ferrari, Mercedes, and Honda they can supply four teams total, but for BMW, Renault and Cosworth they can only supply three teams total. Here’s the starting bids for the engines. Of course, you can submit a bid higher than the starting amount, that action alone will help you in the RNG process. You can submit up to three engine bids total.

Ferrari $17.5 million
Mercedes $15 million
BMW $12.5 million
Honda $10 million
Renault $7.5 million
Cosworth $5 million

Driver Bids:

Finally, the driver Bids, you must have two race drivers. For the first round of bids, you can NOT select drivers outside of this list. Here’s the starting amounts for the drivers. Of course, feel free to submit bids higher than the starting amount. You can submit up to three bids per race seat. If we need to do a second round of driver bids to fill up the leftover seats, instructions on that will come when the time comes. And of important note, from this point on, ALL driver bids are for 1 year only, so no multi-year deals are allowed!

Felipe Massa $8 million Defending WDC, Demands #1 status
Michael Schumacher $6.5 million Demands #1 status, does NOT want Ferrari
Robert Kubica $5 million
Fernando Alonso $4.5 million Demands #1 status
Jenson Button $4 million Demands #1 status
Sebastian Vettel $3.75 million
Nick Heidfeld $3.5 million
Mark Webber $3.25 million
Nico Rosberg $3 million
Kimi Raikkonen $2.75 million Does NOT want McLaren
Heikki Kovalainen $2.5 million
Andre Lotterer $2 million
Christian Klien $1.5 million (Final season in F1, hence the slight discount)
Rubens Barrichello $1.25 million
Kamui Kobayashi $1 million
Giorgio Pantano $950k
Nico Hulkenberg $900k
Luca Filippi $850k
Vitantonio Liuzzi $800k (trying to have a second crack at F1)

Timo Glock $650k
Sebastien Buemi $600k (sat out last season, trying to get back in)

Re: KL-Racer's F1 2010: Engine/1st batch of Driver bids up

Post by KL-racer »

Alright, I got bids from all of the teams except for Euskadi, Williams and Lotus. I have given your guys plenty of time to send your bids. So, let’s get the bidding started shall we?

For the engine bids, I tried to prioritize your first selections, to begin with and go from there.

Engine Bid results

Mercedes Round 1:

Force India 1-40, Prodrive 41-65, Brawn GP 66-85, Red Bull 86-100

Number is . . . 49, Prodrive gets to keep Mercedes engines

Mercedes Round 2:

Force India 1-60, Brawn GP 61-85, Red Bull 86-100

Number is . . . 81, Brawn gets to use Mercedes engines for 2010

Mercedes Final Round

Force India 1-85, Red Bull 86-100

Number is . . . 32

Force India gets to keep Mercedes engines

BMW round 1:

Sauber 1-30, Carlin 31-55, Manor 56-70, Caterham 71-85, Red Bull 86-95, Lola 96-100

Number is . . . 29, so Sauber gets to keep using BMW engines.

BMW round 2:

Carlin 1-35, Manor 36-60, Caterham 61-85, Red Bull 86-95, Lola 96-100

Number is . . . 32, Carlin also keeps using BMW engines

BMW final Round

Manor 1-40, Caterham 41-80, Red Bull 81-90, Lola 91-100

Number is . . . 26, Manor gets the final batch of BMW engines

Ferrari: McLaren was the only team left that did submit a bid for Ferrari engines. Since, McLaren is Ferrari’s arch rival, the Ferrari engine department of course denied them their engines.

However, McLaren had a plan B, they managed to buy out the remains of the Spyker engine department and rebadged these engines as PURE. They had to spend $6.5m to do so. At least, they have an engine contract now.

Honda: Caterham, Red Bull and Lola will use customer Honda engines for 2010.

Renault: DAMS and Stefan GP will use Renault’s for 2010.

Cosworth: So that leaves Campos and USF1 using Cosworth engines for 2010

As for Euskadi, Williams and Lotus. They are lucky to see that they are still 3 batches of Ferrari engines left, 1 batch of Renault’s remaining and 1 supply of Cosworth engines remaining. So, W12 and Rabbi Gordon you can pick your engine at list price.

Now, for the driver bids!

Felipe Massa: He only received a single bid from Ferrari, for $9 million so he stays put

Sebastian Vettel: Signs with Ferrari 1-40, Signs with Red Bull 41-75, waits for Prodrive #1 seat 76-100

Number is . . .13, he signs on with Ferrari as Massa’s new teammate for $4 million

Robert Kubica: He only received a single offer from Force India, after the Ferrari bid fell though. So he will go to Force India for $5.5 million.

Nick Heidfeld: Stays at Sauber 1-40, Signs with Honda #1 seat 41-70, Signs with Red Bull #1 seat. 71-90. Signs with Brawn GP’s #2 seat 91-100

Number is . . . 25, he stays put at Sauber

Kimi Raikkonen: Signs with Sauber #2 seat 1-40, Signs with Carlin #1 seat 41-70, Signs with Brawn GP #2 seat 71-90, Waits for Prodrive #1 seat 91-100

Number is . . . 31, he signs a contract for a second stint at Sauber.

Adrian Sutil: Signs with Sauber as Reserve 1-50, Signs with Campos #2 seat 51-100

Number is . . . 30, he signs with Sauber as a reserve

Jenson Button: Stays with Prodrive #1 seat 1-45, Signs with Honda #1 seat 46-75, Signs with Brawn GP #1 seat 76-100

Number is . . . 24, he stays put with Prodrive

Sergio Perez: Signs with Prodrive #2 seat 1-30, Signs with McLaren #2 seat 31-55, Signs with Lola #1 seat 56-75, Signs with Mercedes #2 seat 76-85, Waits for Carlin’s #2 seat 86-90, Waits for Manor’s #2 seat 91-95, Waits for USF1’s #1 seat 96-100

Number is . . . 35, he signs with McLaren as their #2 driver.

Mark Webber: Signs with Prodrive #2 seat 1-40, Signs with Brawn GP #1 seat 41-70, Stays put at Manor #1 seat 71-100

Number is . . . 69, he signs with Brawn GP as their new #1 driver

Romain Grosjean: Signs with Prodrive #2 seat 1-45, Signs with Red Bull #2 seat 46-70, Signs with Stefan as Reserve 71-85, Waits for Carlin’s #2 86-100,

Number is . . . 30, he signs with Prodrive as their #2.

Andreas Zuber: He was signed to a reserve role at Prodrive for $250k

Heikki Kovalainen: Stays with Carlin #1 seat 1-50, Signs with Caterham #1 seat 51-85, Waits for Honda #2 seat 86-100

Number is . . . 26, he stays put with Carlin

Now here’s the instructions for the second round of driver bids. Unlike the first round of driver bids, the second round is strictly first come first serve, if you can afford it! So, if you have a vacant race seat open act quick. Also, you notice that all of their prices, except for pay driver VDG are lowered. In addition, you could now use drivers that are not on this list, as long as they are at least 18 as of 1/1/2010 and the driver is from a representative series like DTM, GP2, or in a high-level sports car series.

Michael Schumacher $5m Demands #1 seat
Fernando Alonso $2.5m
Andre Lotterer $1.5m
Ralf Schumacher $1m
Giorgio Pantano $750k
Nico Hulkenberg $650k
Vitantonio Liuzzi $600k
Timo Glock $550k
Pedro De La Rosa $500k
Jarno Trulli $400k
Bruno Senna $250k
Jerome D’Amborsio $200k
Giedo Van der Garde PD $3.5m

So my odds of landing either Mercedes or BMW didn't change despite there being fewer teams on the subsequent bids...yeah, that seems completely fair.

Looking at that 2nd drivers list, I should have waited Schumacher AND Alonso!

However, Force India welcomes 2008 world champion Robert Kubica into our fold, as we aim to push Ferrari this season - along with Lewis Hamilton, we now have 2 capable drivers who we hope to provide a car befitting of their skills

Manor goes for the Italians:

Driver 2 - Vitantonio Liuzzi
TD - Jarno "Trulli Train"

What happens if a team doesn't have a driver even after the second round - will they get randomly assigned drivers (for instance like Neel Jani or somebody) ?

Good Question, the answer will be yes, they will get randomly assigned drivers.

Speaking of which, here's the rest of the "leftovers" that will get filled in this post.

Euskadi: They are to be considered lucky to see M. Schumacher still available for $5 million. So, they managed to convince Ferrari to give them engines at list price ($17.5 million) and that move is enough to convince Schumacher to sign with Euskadi. As for their second driver, Giorgio Pantano will stay put for $750k.

Williams: After being pissed at Renault, they are switching back to Cosworth for 2010 at list price ($5 million). Their two drivers will be Pedro De La Rosa ($500k) and Sam Bird ($300k).

Lotus: Which leaves Lotus stuck with Renault engines after failing to successfully switch engine suppliers. As for their two drivers, it would be Brendon Hartley and Neel Jani getting the call for $250k each.

Lola: And Finally, the final race seat will be filled by Paul Di Resta, who was sold on leaving DTM for $500k.

Of Course, the opening post will be updated with all of this info. Next thing on the agenda will be the pre-season test at Catalunya, which will be our first chance to see the pecking order, but that would not come until the weekend at the earliest. In the meantime, comment away!

Pre-season testing:

Yay, we are one step closer to the start of the 2010 season. But first, the 20 teams must test their new 2010 cars in front of the media and journalists at Catalunya. Here’s the results

1 Sebastian Vettel 1:25.774
2 Mark Webber +0.151
3 Lewis Hamilton +0.233
4 Jenson Button +0.319
5 Fernando Alonso +0.435
6 Ralf Schumacher +0.506
7 Felipe Massa +0.513
8 Michael Schumacher +0.706
9 Kimi Raikkonen +0.779
10 Nico Rosberg +0.833
11 Rubens Barrichello +0.912
12 Giorgio Pantano +0.945
13 Robert Kubica +0.988
14 Andre Lotterer +1.102
15 Sebastien Buemi +1.161
16 Romain Grosjean +1.184
17 Nick Heidfeld +1.229
18 Vitantonio Liuzzi +1.233
19 Christian Klien +1.307
20 Heikki Kovalainen +1.424
21 Sakon Yamamoto +1.427
22 Sergio Perez +1.509
23 Benoit Truleyer +1.552
24 Karun Chandhok +1.557
25 Luca Filippi +1.754
26 Pastor Maldonado +1.829
27 Kamui Kobayashi +1.909
28 Pedro De La Rosa +1.951
29 Jaime Algersauri +2.156
30 Nico Hulkenberg +2.265
31 Vitaly Petrov +2.468
32 Paul Di Resta +2.470
33 Jerome D’Ambrosio +2.541
34 Jose Maria Lopez +2.623
35 Ho-Pin Tung +2.749
36 Neel Jani +3.066
37 Brendon Hartley +3.228
38 Lucas Di Grassi +3.346
39 Sam Bird +3.351
40 Luiz Razia +3.784

Looking at the results, there’s a few things to mention. First, 13 cars are within a full second of the fastest time, which is way better than last year. However, there were a few duds in the bunch, most notably Ho-Pin Tung in the Carlin. Also, Jerome D’Ambrosio in the Mercedes lacking the pace was kind of shocking. There were also two pleasant surprises, Yamamoto in the Campos actually posting a time good enough to be on the race grid, and Ralf Schumacher’s time in the Mercedes actually wasn’t that bad either. The first round will be posted soon. So comment away!
