2018 FIA Formula 2 - Curitiba posted! Season over!

Post by Miguel98 »

Image

I’m taking over running Formula Two (formelly known as F2RWSRS) from pasta_maldonado.

For this year, F2RWRS has been purchased by the FIA, and renamed to FIA Formula 2 World Championship, being the main series to support, and provide drivers, to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, the pinnacle of motorsport. A new age has begun for F2 today.
Even though with purchased assets, the FIA has decided that they’ll give a chance for the teams who competed in the 2017 season of F2RWRS to continue in the series for 2018, as the transition from the ARWS (formelly F1RWRS) ladder to the FIA ladder begins today.
To make that process easier, the same chassis from the last year will be used, but the series is switching to being a spec series, with the same chassis and same engine for all. The engine will be developed by current F1 suppliers Judd, and it’ll produce 650HP, which together with the aero package, should thrust the car up until 280-300km/h.

As of this post, all the teams from last year have up until the 1st of October, at 7pm BST, to say if they’re continuing in the series for 2018 or not. After that process is done, first post will be updated with the full rules for this year’s season, including driver and how race weekends will precede.

Waiting List:

2. Normal32
3. kevinbotz
4. Simtek
5. pi3141
6. roblomas52

I wish to retain my entry, but rebranded to reflect the shift in driver ladders for this year.

Voeckler Grand Prix Engineering will be rebranded to Trueba Junior Team, with Giovanni Roda at the helm.

So, after beeing alerted, it seems that Phoenix and Aerospeed have left the forums for good, so they're spots are going to the first two on the waiting list, Salamander and takagi_for_the_win. But, since takagi has left, the second spot goes to HawkAussie. You may confirm your entries like the others.

I remind people that plans aren't to be posted yet. Only after everyone confirm (or not) their entries, the team's plans can be posted. That is, in a week time.

Due to some unknown beef with the FIA and because his company isn't making all of the chassis for the series, Sammy Jones will withdraw his team from the F2 championship to focus on the AR ladder instead.

pycku's been away for literally years (this sentence may contain hints of exaggeration). Furthermore, I think tristan's dropped all of his teams as well.

Anyway, I'll be keeping my entry but Nebula will be running the team under the RUSSIAN TIME banner.

If tristan did drop all of his teams, then I guess Londoner can take his entry. For pycku, Kevin told me he had relinquish all of his DEC rights, so I guess he's not around anymore too.. V8Fan12 gets that entry then, since he's next on waiting list. So I guess EastLondoner and V8Fan12 can confirm their entries.

It is understood that the team has been in talks with a number of drivers for the two cars the team will field in the series.

For anyone looking for drivers, I have two available.

Josh Carlisle has plenty of experience in F2 and AR3.5's predecessors and would be a steady pair of hands for any team. He has recently secured sponsorship from Spirax-Sarco Engineering, based in Carlisle's hometown of Cheltenham.

Alexey Pchelintsev is on the comeback trail and after a string of decent performances in the 2017 F5000 series he's after an F2 drive. Alexey brings sponsorship from Kazatomprom, Kazakhstan's state-owned nuclear power production firm.

In a surprise development, Autosport have learned that Defintely Maybe Racing, which on Monday confirmed their participation in the FIA Formula 2 series, will be entering a co-op with the Carlin operation. It is understood that DMR team manager Liam McGuigan and Carlin boss Trevor Carlin have agreed a two-year deal where DMR's teams will be run under the banner of "DMR by Carlin". The deal is set to be confirmed later today.

It is rumoured that Carlin alumni Lando Norris and Colton Herta, the son of IndyCar's Bryan Herta, are frontrunners for the two seats. However, other sources have linked German wonderkid Sophia Floersch to the team, as well as Lukas Zuber.

We contacted Prince Falik at his London based palace in posh Brixton (so he told us) and he gave us a brief statement "We still have not made a decision on F2, those scum ruining F3 did not even contact us asking if we wanted to enter, and I fired the idiot manager of the F2 team who cost me $1.1m. FIA announces changes to F2 weekend format

FIA has finally announced the big changes to the format of the newly formed F2 series. The series will adapt the F1 points system, and the race format will be changed compared to F2RWRS. The series will addapt the 2 race per weekend, just like F1, with both races beeing run to the 100km distance. Qualifying for race 1 will be a 12 lap qualifying, run over 35 minutes, while qualifying for race 2 will be a one-lap shoot-out between all drivers. Engine penalties will also be applied, in case a failure happens in one of the races or qualifyings.

F2 has also announced the calendar for the 2018 season. Pre-Season testing will occur in the spanish circuits of Catalunya and Ricardo Tormo, in the weekends of 3-4 February and 24-25 February respectivelly. The official season will start in Suzuka, where F2 will support F1. F2 will support F1 also in Bahrain, Nürburgring, Marina Bay Street Circuit, Donington Park, Circuit Charles de Gaulle, Circuit Zandvoort, Yas Marina, Shanghai International Circuit and the F1 season, and F2 finale too, at the Autódromo Internacional de Curitiba. F2 will host standalone event in Spa-Francorchamps, and will support IPC in Karjala Raceway and in Calder Park.

The new F2 series will feature 15 teams, same as it's predecessor, and 14 teams have already confirmed an entry, with rumours beeing that Falik Arrows and Valerian are fighting for the final spot in the series for 2018.

A poll has also been started to what you want the grid to look like in 2019. Please, vote. :P

SuperAguri has 2 days to give the final answer regarding if he's keeping his entry or not.

FIA confirms final F2 entry list

FIA have released a press conference today with the final entry list for the series. Just like his predecessor, 15 teams will compete in the championship, with Falik Arrows finally having been confirmed as the final team. Here's the full entry list:

Trueba Junior Team (ITA)
RUSSIAN TIME (RUS)
Aeroracing Engineering (GBR)
Holden Young Lions (AUS)
RonDen Racing Engineering (BEL)
Hilmer Motorsport (GER)
Gillet Ecurie Nationale Belge (BEL)
Falik Arrows (NGR)
Melrose Racing Team (AUS)
Licor Beirão Portugal Racing (POR)
Red Bull World Race Team (GBR)
Scuderia Aqua (ITA)
Kit-Kat Warriors (GBR)
Tassie Racing (AUS)
Definitely Maybe Racing (GBR)

The first pre-season testing of the new F2 will happen in the 3rd of February, in the circuit of Catalunya, with racing starting in the Japan in the weekend of 17-18 March.

With this post, driver signings are now open up until 09 October 7PM British Time Zone.
In order for a driver to drive in F2, he'll have to meet a couple of requirements:
He can't have driven more than 20 F1 or ARWS races throught his career.
He can be a real life driver, or canon driver if the DEC owner allows it.
He can't be older than 32 years old.
For a real life driver, an RNG will be run to see if he accepts to drive in the series (for only one offer), or for which team he'll drive (for more than one offer). For real life drivers, you should have more than one option for the seat in question.

Fill out this form with the drivers:

Code: Select all

Driver's Name:
Driver's DEC owner (if not real life driver):
Position (Driver #1/Driver #2):
Driver Sponsors:

I also say to all team owners to check the wiki page (http://formularejects.com/wiki/2018_F2_season) in order to see who has signed drivers for 2018 F2 already. Thanks to Ataxia for helping with this process, and for pi for noticing Suomanen's signing.

In the same post as the driver signings, fill this form as well:

Code: Select all

Full Team Name:
Team Sponsors:
Team Numbers (need to be from 1-99):
Livery Idea (for 2017 teams, you can choose to keep your livery):

You have until the 9th of October, at 7PM to fill out both forms, and to sign both drivers for the seats.

Good luck!
