No Williams Alternate Championship

Post by Whiteshore »

Inspired by the "No Ferrari" and "No McLaren" Alternate Championships, I have decided to try my hand on a championship where Williams is removed from the Drivers and Constructors Championships and their results are redistributed and I will start in 1978, the first season Williams competed as a constructor under the Williams Grand Prix Engineering label.

1978

Drivers Championship
1. Mario Andretti-65
2. Ronnie Peterson-51
3. Carlos Reutemann-48
4. Niki Lauda-44
5. Patrick Depailler-34
6. Jody Scheckter-27
7. John Watson-25
8. Jacques Laffite-21
9. Emerson Fittipaldi-18
10. Gilles Villeneuve-17
11. Ricardo Patrese-11
12.=James Hunt-9
12.=Patrick Tambay-9
14.=Didier Pironi-8
15.= Jean Pierre Jabouille-4
15.=Clay Regazonni-4
17.Hans Joachim Stuck-2
18.= Hector Rebaque-1
18.= Vittorio Brambilla-1
18=. Derek Daly-1

Constructors Championship
1. Lotus-Ford-86
2. Ferrari-58
3. Brabham-Alfa Romeo-54
4. Tyrrell-Ford-38
5. Wolf-Ford-27
6. Ligier-Matra-21
7. Fittipaldi-Ford-18
8. McLaren-Ford-16
9. Arrows-Ford-11
10. Shadow-Ford-6
11. Renault-4
12.=Ensign-Ford-1
12.= Surtees-Ford-1

Relatively unchanged from real life as Williams only scored on three occassions, South Africa, France, and USA east, so aside from Andretti, Laffite, and Pironi gaining a single point in South Africa, Scheckter and Laffite gaining one point in France, and Scheckter gaining two points and Jabouille, Fittipaldi, Tambay, and Hunt each gaining a single point at Watkins Glen, there are no changes but they are enough to leapfrog Scheckter and Fittipaldi over John Watson and Gilles Villeneuve respectably and Regazzoni and Jabouille(in the Yellow Teapot!)end equal on points.

1979 OTOH will be interesting as Williams became front runners as they were 2nd to Ferrari in the Constructors Championship.

Look forward to 1996 - that could be a very popular champion considering Schumacher has lots of retirements and not as much to gain from Williams' removal.

Also does Schumacher still get removed from the 1997 table with no Williams for him to collide with? That one could be very good if so.

I will either make Schumacher's disqualification be the result of a fuel irregularity or something like that or have him not be disqualified.

17.= Ricardo Patrese-2
17.= Hans Joachim Stuck-2
17.= Emerson Fittipaldi-2
17.= Geoff Lees-2
17.= Ricardo Zunino-2
22.= Patrick Tambay-1
22.= Hector Rebaque-1
22.= Derek Daly-1

Constructors Championship
1. Ferrari-115
2. Ligier-Ford-70
3. Lotus-Ford-42
4. Tyrrell-Ford-34

7.= Brabham-Alfa Romeo-9
7.= Arrows-Ford-9
9.= ATS-Ford-2
9.= Fittipaldi-Ford-2
9.= Brabham-Ford-2

True domination with Ferrari with Ligier being too fragile to put up a full resistance and some surprises here and there like Zunino finishing 5th at Canada, the Brabham-Alfa having TWO podium finishes, and Geoff Lees scoring points!

Tell you something, this championship looks interesting. While it only 'eliminates' two cars, It has potential to shake up some good results. Looking forward to more of this.
My friend's USB drive spoiled, spilled tea on her laptop and had a bird poo in her hand.

What did she do in her past life to deserve this?

Yes please keep going - even on years when Williams don't win, other results could change the champion if it's between two or more non-Williams drivers (though 2011 and 2013 are hardly worth doing mind you)! :)

1980

Drivers Championship
1. Nelson Piquet-65
2.= Jacques Laffite-42
2.= Didier Pironi-42
4. Rene Arnoux-33
5. Elio de Angelis-19
6. Gilles Villeneuve-14
7. Jean-Pierre Jarier-11
8.= Keke Rosberg-10
8.=Alain Prost-10
10.= Jean Pierre Jabouille-9
10.= Derek Daly-9
10.= John Watson-9
13. Ricardo Patrese-8
14.= Jochen Mass-7
14.= Mario Andretti-7
16.= Emerson Fittipaldi-6
16.= Bruno Giacomelli-6
18. Hector Rebaque-5
19. Jody Scheckter-4
20. Marc Surer-3
21. Ricardo Zunino-1

Constructors Championship
1. Ligier-Ford-84
2. Brabham-Ford-71
3. Renault-42
4. Lotus-Ford-26
5. Tyrrell-Ford-20
6. McLaren-Ford-19
7. Ferrari-18
8. Fittipaldi-Ford-16
9. Arrows-Ford-15
10. Alfa Romeo-6
11. ATS-Ford-3

Nelson Piquet bags his first championship but Brabham fails to win the Constructors Championship due to his No.2s being horrible. I salute you, Ricardo Zunino, first person unrejectified by this championship with a 5th at Canada and a 6th at Argentina! Gilles Villeneuve finishes 6th in the T5 and gets a podium for good measure(a 5th at Canada turns into a 3rd with both Williams finishing 1-2 there). Alfa Romeo gets a ROTY as they only finish ahead of ATS in the WCC even with Williams removed but as a consolation prize, they score a tearful podium at Hockenheim!

6. Elio De Angelis-26
7. Hector Rebque-17
8. Ricardo Patrese-16

16. Andrea De Cesaris-5
17. Patrick Tambay-4
18.= Slim Borgudd-2
18.= Eliseo Salazar-2
18.= Jean-Pierre Jarier-2
18.= Chico Serra-2
22.= Derek Daly-1
22.= Siegfried Stohr-1

Constructors Championship]
1. Brabham-Ford-75
2. Renault-61
3. Ligier-Matra-54
4. Ferrari-41
5. Lotus-Ford-38
6. McLaren-Ford-37
7.= Arrows-Ford-17
7.= Alfa-Romeo-17
9. Tyrrell-Ford-15
10. Ensign-Ford-10
11. Theodore-Ford-4
12.= ATS-Ford-2
12.= Fittipaldi-Ford-2
14. March-Ford-1

Piquet wins his 2nd title with Prost and Laffite being too fragile to put up a consistent challenge as Laffite needed a 2nd with Piquet not scoring or a win with Piquet 5th or below! Arrows win a race in Brazil(Patrese 3rd behind Williams 1-2)! Marc Surer has a 2nd place in Brazil and Hector Rebaque finishes ahead of the likes of Eddie Cheever, Ricardo Patrese, and Rene Arnoux. Once, more bad No.2 drivers drag down a team with Ligier finishing 3rd in the WCC.

9. Arrows-Ford-12
10. Alfa Romeo-8
11. ATS-Ford-4

John Watson wins the championship as Pironi fails to take advantage of Williams being absent and McLaren narrowly fails to win the WCC even with Ferrari not running a car in both Belgium and Dijon.

You are aware that the Swiss Grand Prix was actually held in Dijon, France, and that therefore, nobody ran a car in Switzerland? ;)

13. Marc Surer-9
14.= Mauro Baldi-4
14.= Danny Sullivan-4
16. Theirry Boutsen-3
17.= Elio de Angelis-2
17.= Johnny Cecotto-2
17.= Bruno Giacomelli-2
17.= Chico Serra-2
21. Raul Boesel-1

Constructors Championship
1. Ferrari-94
2. Renault-86
3. Brabham-BMW-76
4. McLaren-Ford-38
5. Alfa Romeo-19
6. Tyrrell-Ford-15
7.= Arrows-Ford-14
7.= Toleman-Hart-14
9. Lotus-Renault-13
10. Theodore-Ford-2
11. Ligier-Ford-1

Piquet wins his 3rd title on countback as he ties with Alain Prost as Danny Sullivan and Chico Serra unrejectify and I decided to promote the positions of the drivers in the Brazillian GP who finished behind Laffite two positions due to there being no Williams and Lauda gets 2nd there.

1984

Drivers Championship
1. Alain Prost-72.5
2. Niki Lauda-72
3. Elio de Angelis-39.5
4. Michele Alboreto-31
5. Rene Arnoux-30
6. Nelson Piquet-29
7. Derek Warwick-23
8. Nigel Mansell-15
9. Ayrton Senna-14
10. Patrick Tambay-12
11. Teo Fabi-9
12. Ricardo Patrese-8
13. Theirry Boutsen-6
14. Piercarlo Ghinzani-4.5
16.= Eddie Cheever-3
16.= Stefan Johansson-3
16.= Andrea de Cesaris-3
19.= Marc Surer-2
19.= Corrado Fabi-2
21. Manfred Winkelhock-1

Constructors Championship
1. McLaren-Porsche-144.5
2. Ferrari-61
3. Lotus-Renault-54.5
4. Brabham-BMW-39
5. Renault-35
6. Toleman-Hart-17
7. Alfa Romeo-11
8. Arrows-Ford-5
9. Osella-Alfa Romeo-4.5
10.= Arrows-BMW-3
10.= Ligier-Renault-3
12. ATS-BMW-1

Prost wins his first title by virtue of a 7th in France turning into a 6th and in Dallas, Piercarlo Ghinzani scores a podium in Dallas and unrejectifies Osella in the process! Arnoux is the only additional winner this year due to Dallas where he wins by a lap from de Angelis. A point for Corrado Fabi in Dallas as well and Winkelhock unrejectifies himself in there as well.

12. Derek Warwick-9
13. Philippe Streiff-7
14.= Stefan Bellof-6
14.= Gerhard Berger-6
16. Marc Surer-5
17. Ivan Capelli-4
18.= Rene Arnoux-3
18.= Andrea de Cesaris-3
18.= Martin Brundle-3
22. John Watson-2
23. Huub Rothengatter-1

Constructors Championship

1. McLaren-Porsche-97
2. Ferrari-93
3. Lotus-Renault-79
4. Ligier-Renault-30
5. Brabham-BMW-28
6.= Renault-22
6.= Arrows-BMW
8.= Tyrrell-Ford-6
8.= Tyrrell-Renault-6
10. Osella-Alfa Romeo-1

Prost wins his 2nd championship as Ferrari are too fragile to put up a fight in the WDC but the WCC fights continues until Australia where Ligier score a 1-2 and Capelli scores a podium at only his 2nd race and Alfa Romeo make fools of themselves as Osella (their customer team) scores a point and they don't. BTW, Johansson is now a race winner!

14.= Patrick Tambay-5
14.=Teo Fabi-5
14.= Ricardo Patrese-5
17. Derek Warwick-4
18. Philippe Aliot-3
19. Christian Danner-2
20. Andrea de Cesaris-1

Constructors Championship
1. McLaren-Porsche-117
2. Lotus-Renault-80
3. Ferrari-54
4. Ligier-Renault-50
5. Benetton-BMW-28
6. Tyrrell-Renault-21
7. Haas Lola-Ford-11
8. Brabham-BMW-9
9. Arrows-BMW-8
10. Minardi-Motori Moderni-1

Alain Prost wins 3 WDCs in a row! A sign of the future arrives with Senna a close 2nd and some surprises here and there like Minardi scoring a point at Mexico and Arnoux finishing 5th from 10th overall with Williams removed.

1987

Drivers Championship
1. Ayrton Senna-81
2. Alain Prost-61
3. Stefan Johannson-46
4. Gerhard Berger-42
5.= Michele Alboreto-22
5.= Theirry Boutsen-22
7. Teo Fabi-21
8. Eddie Cheever-19
9. Jonathan Palmer-14
10. Satoru Nakajima-12
11. Ricardo Patrese-11
12. Phillipe Streiff-10
13. Derek Warwick-6
14.= Andrea de Cesaris-4
14.= Martin Brundle-4
16.= Piercarlo Ghinzani-2
16.= Ivan Capelli-2
16.= Christian Danner-2
19.= Rene Arnoux-1
19.= Roberto Moreno-1

Constructors Championship
1. McLaren-Porsche-105
2. Lotus-Honda-93
3. Ferrari-64
4. Benetton-Ford-43
5. Arrows-Megatron-25
6. Tyrrell-Ford-24
7. Brabham-BMW-15
8. Zakspeed-6
9. Ligier-Megatron-3
10. March-Ford-2
11. AGS-Ford-1

Senna wins his first title in dominant fashion but his No.2 Satoru Nakajima fails to make sure Lotus wins a Constructors Title for the first time since 1978! Some surprises like the Brabham-BMW winning a race and Ghinzani outscoring Arnoux. Tyrrell has an IIDOTY as they finish ahead of "turbo" Brabham, Zakspeed, and Ligier! Unfortunately, Patrese falls out with Ecclestone and leaves F1 even before the season's out.

16. Yannick Dalmas-1

Constructors Championship
1. McLaren-Honda-199
2. Ferrari-67
3. Benetton-Ford-44
4. March-Judd-27
5.= Lotus-Honda-25
5.= Arrows-Megatron-25
7. Tyrrell-Ford-5
8. Rial-Ford-3
9. Minardi-Ford-2
10. Lola-Ford-1

Not many changes in Williams' off-year aside from Yannick Dalmas no longer being a reject and a very BIG gap between Arrows/Lotus and the next placed team.

1989

Drivers Championship

1. Alain Prost-76(83)
2. Ayrton Senna-62
3. Nigel Mansell-38
4. Alessandro Nannini-37

23.= Jonathan Palmer-3
23.= Gabriel Tarquini-3
25.= Oliver Grouillard-2
25.= Philippe Alliot-2
27. Luiz Perez-Sala-1

Constructors Championship
1. McLaren-Honda-145
2. Ferrari-59
3. Benetton-Ford-47
4. Lotus-Judd-25
5. Arrows-Ford-24
6. Tyrrell-Ford-23
7. Dallara-Ford-19
8. Brabham-Judd-13
9. Minardi-Ford-10
10. Onyx-Ford-7
11. Ligier-Ford-6
12. Rial-Ford-5
13. AGS-Ford-3
14. Lola-Ford-2

A typical year of McLaren-Honda domination but we get some surprises like Andrea de Cesaris winning a race(Canada, where he finished 3rd behind a Williams 1-2), Rial scoring a podium along with Arnoux in his last year, 2 POINTS seperating 4th and 6th in the WCC, Tarquini unrejectifying himself, and Ferrari being too unreliable to pick up any points

P.S. When I finish this, I could post a list of F1 stats from this timeline.

Senna wins 3 World Championships as the gap between front and midfield grows as 57 points seperate third-placed Benetton and 4th placed Tyrrell! Foitek scores a point as Ligier leapfrogs Brabham and finishes equal with Arrows in the WCC.

12. Lola-Lamborghini-2

True domination by Ayrton Senna as he gives a certain young German who debuts at Spa tips on how to dominate an F1 season and Pierluigi Martini scores a podium! Ferrari win three races but McLaren win all but one of the rest(Canada being the only exception)!

1992

Drivers Championship

1. Michael Schumacher-81

18. Phillipe Alliot-4
19.= Eric Comas-3
19.= Eddie Irvine-3
21.= Pierluigi Martini-2
21.= Aguri Suzuki-2
23. Luca Badoer-1

Constructors Championship
1. Benetton-Ford-115
2. McLaren-Ford-102
3. Ferrari-51
4. Ligier-Renault-48
5. Sauber-Ilmor-25
6. Lotus-Ford-23
7. Minardi-Ford-17
8.= Footwork-Mugen Honda-9
8.= Jordan-Hart-9
10. Larrouse-Lamborghini-7
11. Lola-Ferrari-1

Senna equals Fangio by winning the Australian Grand Prix before leaving F1 to race for Penske in CART(he actually tested for Penske and in a No Williams world, he would have gone to America IMO). Minardi finishes ahead of Footwork and Jordan! ROTY for Tyrrell as they fail to score points and are dead last.

23. Michele Alboreto-1

Constructors Championship

2. Ferrari-89
3. McLaren-Peugeot-66
4. Jordan-Hart-43
5.= Sauber-Mercedes-22
5.= Tyrrell-Yamaha-22
7. Ligier-Renault-20
8. Footwork-Ford-13
9. Minardi-Ford-8
10.= Lotus-Mugen Honda-3
10.= Larrouse-Ford-3

Schumacher dominates the season with Ferrari being the best of the rest with Schumacher winning 10/11 races(the one I posted is the one with him disqualified from the British GP but one could give Schumacher 10 more points and give Alesi 4 less points, Hakkinen 2 less, and Barrichello, Frentzen, and Katayama 1 less as there is no Williams to overtake in the formation lap). Some surprises like Sauber and Tyrrell tying in the WCC and Lotus leapfrogging Larrouse in the standings.

6. Sauber-Ford-31
7. Tyrrell-Yamaha-8
8. Footwork-Hart-7
9. Minardi-Ford-4
10. Forti-Ford-1

Michael Schumacher becomes youngest triple world champion in a dominant manner as Ferrari take the role of best of the rest, which can only bode well as Schumacher goes there next year. Some surprises as Forti scores and Pacific don't and a very close midfield but wide gaps between front and midfield.

1996

Drivers Championship
1. Jean Alesi-84
2. Michael Schumacher-82
3. Mika Hakkinen-49
4. Gerhard Berger-38
5. David Coulthard-30
6. Rubens Barrichello-25
7. Oliver Panis-24

13. Pedro Diniz-4
14.= Jos Verstappen-3
14.= Ukyo Katayama-3
16.= Ricardo Rosset-1
16.= Giancarlo Fisichella-1

Constructors Championship
1. Benetton-Renault-122
2. Ferrari-105
3. McLaren-Mercedes-79
4. Jordan-Peugeot-39
5. Ligier-Mugen Honda-28
6. Sauber-Ford-20
7. Tyrrell-Yamaha-14
8. Footwork-Hart-4
9. Minardi-Ford-1

Jean Alesi wins due to Schumacher's inconsistency but some surprises are there like Ricardo Rosset scoring a point at Hungary, Footwork being too inconsistent to score more points and Hakkinen being 3rd, WITHOUT winning a race!

1997

Drivers Championship

1. Michael Schumacher-88
2. Jean Alesi-52
3. David Coulthard-45
4. Gerhard Berger-40
5. Eddie Irvine-35
6. Mika Hakkinen-32
7. Johnny Herbert-29

17.= Nicola Larini-2

Constructors Championship

1. Ferrari-123
2. Benetton-Renault-98
3. McLaren-Mercedes-77
4. Jordan-Peugeot-44
5. Sauber-Petronas-31
6. Prost-Mugen Honda-29
7. Arrows-Yamaha-20
8. Stewart-Ford-6
9. Tyrrell-Ford-2

Michael Schumacher wins his 4th championship (no Williams to collide with means no disqualification) and Ferrari's first WDC since 1979 and first WCC since 1983! Stewart and Tyrrell fail to gain anything from Williams' absence but Damon Hill wins at Hungary and gives Arrows it's second win even with a broken washer and Yamaha it's only win. Prost GP wins at Spain as well.

4. Jordan-Mugen Honda-40
5. Sauber-Petronas-20
6. Arrows-6
7. Stewart-Ford-5
8. Prost-Peugeot-2
9. Minardi-Ford-1

Not many changes in Williams off-year as the gap between front, middle, and back becomes very big as 73 points seperate Ferrari and Benetton but Tuero scores a point but Nakano fails to score.

1999

Drivers Championship

1. Eddie Irvine-78
2. Mika Hakkinen-77
3. Heinz-Harald Frentzen-55

7. Sauber-Petronas-7
8. Arrows-3
9. Minardi-Ford-2
10. BAR-Supertec-1

Irvine becomes world champion in 1999! Some surprises like BAR scoring a point at Italy where R. Schumacher was 2nd and Zanardi was 7th with Villeneuve in 8th as well even though for the most part, only one car is eliminated as Zanardi was rubbish.

Schumacher equals Fangio in the WDC as the gap between the front and the rest grows incredibly wide as McLaren is seperated from Benetton, BAR, and Jordan by 140 points!

2001

Drivers Championship

1. Michael Schumacher-130

6. Jaguar-Cosworth-15
7. Benetton-Renault-14

A typical year of Schumacher dominating and the gap between the front and the rest being very wide as only 5 drivers make more than one visit to the podium.

6.= Jaguar-Cosworth-14
8. Toyota-9
9.= Minardi-Asiatech-4
9.= Arrows-Cosworth-4

A typical year of Schumacher dominating as the year becomes the reverse of 1988 as Ferrari win all races bar one, which is won by McLaren. The midfield is quite crowded as Button comes close to Raikkonen with Mika Salo finishing ahead of a Jordan and BAR in the Drivers Championship and Webber unrejectifying himself at his first race!

4. BAR-Honda-39
5. Jaguar-Cosworth-33
6. Toyota-28
7. Sauber-Petronas-25
8. Jordan-Ford-16
9. Minardi-2

Schumacher wins his 8th world championship on countback as he won more races than Raikkonen. The midfield is quite crowded as BAR and Sauber are seperated by just 14 points and Da Matta is seperated from Heidfeld by just 4 points!

You won't get banned, it's just something of a tradition to refer to him as HWNSNBM, or "He Whose Name Shall Not Be Mentioned". Jamie and Enoch started calling him that because they said his name so much on the podcast and since then it has been carried over into the forum. Now, each time his name is mentioned they say HWNSNBM will hit you with a papaya :)
