2018 Free Agency - Sign Drivers

Post by DemocalypseNow »

---------------- ARCHIVE - RACE OF REJECTS -----------------
1st Round Report (Last 64)
2nd Round Report (Last 32)
3rd Round Report (Last 16)

Quarter Finals Report
Semi Finals Report
3rd Place & Grand Final Report
--------------------------------------------

It's the middle of the off-season, and this means it's time for free agency to begin.

A change in format from last year, now the contest will be a straight eliminator style format, much akin to the Race of Champions.

If you have a driver you no longer wish to manage, drop him here and he can find himself a second career under someone else's control.

The deadline for submitting bids to participate in the 1st Round of the free agency draft is Saturday 11 July, 1800 BST (1900 CEST), at which point drivers will start accepting/rejecting offers.

The RNG ranges of the bids will be affected by the following things; the quality of the offer (Is it with a top team? Is the team using proven equipment? Are they offering something that rivals can't?), the duration of the offer (Is it full time or part time? Will it be a multi-year deal with a top team offering job security?), the appropriateness of the offer (why would I want to do rallycross when I have 5 years junior experience? I want to be in top level open wheel!), and the level of detail in the offer (OK, you told me your name and what series you want, but you didn't tell me what kind of car I will be driving? I prefer to go with an offer where I know exactly what I'm getting into).

I will post my own offer now, might as well;

Trueba Racing Team offers Jochen Märko the opportunity to become team leader of it's Rejects SuperTruck Championship team, piloting their #24 Dodge RAM for the entire 2018 season, with an option of continuing in 2019, or perhaps moving into IPC at a later date should a vacancy of considerable quality emerge. Our backup choice for this role is Jackie Gardner.

Trueba Racing Team also offers Nicolas Steele a drive for the works Maserati outfit in GT-R, partnering up with endurance specialist Simon Redman in one of the two cars. He will also get extra-curricular opportunities, such as appearing for Infiniti All Stars in IPC at his home round. Our backup option for this vacancy is Jari Kekkonen.

Renzo offers Danilo di Longo a senior management position within the organisation, as well as reserve status across all tin-top series the Renzo organisation competes in (GT-R, IPC).

I'm offering a place in the Kjellerup Young Driver program to Akira Yamamura. If he accepts, he would contest the AR3.5 season for Écurie Prenois, and be Kjellerups reserve driver in F1RWRS, and get the chance to drive the car during the young driver test.

I'll also make a driver management offer to Evgeny Restov. I will try to get him a seat in one of the top-level single-seater series (F1RWRS, F1, or Indy). Failing that, he would drive for Kjellerup Racing in GTR-WC.

Belso Bilsport (IPC B-class) offer a full-time drive to James Turner.

Gabriela Scopelli (ARG) can be added to the list of available drivers.

The International Pro Car championship will offer a reserve driver contract to Khaled al-Dizi, similar to what Iulian Pitea and Kim Lee-Wang signed last season.

I will also release Alex Geinhart, Arthur Daniels, and Johnny Boudermann into the draft.

For 2018, Takagi Racing Enterprises (AR 3.5) will make offers to Alessandro Marchesi and Chacko Palaniappan, in hopes to fix our fortune in that series this season. :)

Also, Jimmy Hopkins can also be listed in the free agency list.

I am looking for a second driver for F1RWRS. We offer a drive for Nicholas Steele for two years (details are negotiable), and with our car we think he make Blokkmonsta's first season a good one.

If I don't get Steele, I also show interest in Jari Kekkonen and Miko Fakkinen, which I would offer 1 season in F1RWRS (again, contract is negotiable).

Also, For IPCC the Blokkmonsta promoter's car (in B-Class) is available for about 1/3 of the races. I would like Lasse Tilkesson as my first choice, and Daniel Moreno as my second choice.

(As I mentioned in other posts the promoter's car has space for driver sponsorship, so if anyone knows what spnsors these drivers would take it would be appreciated.)

Jones Racing Group will offer Alexey Buyvolov a guaranteed ARWS race drive for the 2019 season, and will be installed as an official Jones reserve driver for the 2018 season. He will be given the option to drive for a rival ARWS team in 2018 to maintain his race craft and develop his driving further.

We will be picking 2 drivers to race but will be looking picking 1 of the 2 drivers, either Raya and Carlos, to join us.

The window for submitting unwanted drivers to the free agent list expires in under 24 hours, while the window to sumbit Round 1 bids for drivers will be at 1800 BST (1900 CEST) on Saturday July 11th. From Sunday 12th onwards, drivers who receive a bid will have a 48 hour window between the first offer received and accepting/declining that offer, and any other offer received within said 48 hour window.

Unseeded drivers who are knocked out in the qualifying round of the tournament and do not receive any offers by July 11 at 1800 BST will have a RNG run to determine whether they will permanently retire from canon, or continue to wait for offers to come in.

I don't understand. Just a couple days ago you were actively trying to find them drives. Bear in mind that as these three guys never did anything of note, they'll probably get knocked out in the qualifiers and just give up and retire!

It wasn't really 'actively', i just mentioned them. But who's realistically going to hire them? What do they have in offer? I feel no desire to continue using these drivers. Besides, Horrie was always intended as a stop-gasp, and Waladi has never showed any signs of talent. And for the garfunkster, i got tired of my own pun. Maybe someone else is interested because he does have reasonable results, fact is that i don't care about him anymore. I'm planning on retiring them anyway, and that's what they will do unless some miracle happens for them.

Also, i'm joining the bidding for Akira Yamamura to drive for RonDen in F2RWRS for the coming two seasons (or whatever it is currently called , the wiki is not updated on that).

Dacia F1RWRS Team (Simpson Motorsport) will offer Alexey Buyvalov a ARWS/F1RWRS race seat for the 2018 season and beyond on a yearly rolling contract. The team will be running an evolution of their current chassis that took them to a number of points finishes and even a podium in 2017, with what is expected to be a much more powerful engine. The team's ambitions for the season ahead include more regular points and podium finishes.

Gulf Racing will offer a number of drivers a contract for the 2018 GTR-WC season. After a few years of being a customer Saleen team they are stepping up their involvement with a factory Aston Martin effort. The team will offer drives to Nicholas Steele, John Magnus, Matteo Rossi and Jack Maddock.

Rejectsport wrote:ROR Round of 64: Yamamura collapses at the first hurdle

Cup format competitions are known for the giant-killing antics occasionally demonstrated by minnows, but few saw this particular goliath-slaying result coming.

In a match-up that onlookers would only have been expecting one outcome, Portuguese gentleman driver Laurindo Coelho, who last raced over a year ago in the Siemens Ausdauer Reject Series with little success, eliminated the young Japanese hotshot Akira Yamamura, taking advantage of a sloppy and error-prone performance by the former Aeroracing prodigy.

Yamamura was not pleased to be here in the first place, a late addition to the field thanks to his former employers Aeroracing, with whom he had a 2018 ARWS contract, folding shortly after the conclusion of the previous season. The dour attitude showed in his driving, looking imprecise and not driving positively at all.

Surprise, Surprise
Given the sudden eliminator format of the early rounds, there are chances aplenty for surprise results, and there were plenty of other underdogs taking advantage of mistakes from the big guns. Miko Fäkkinen, one of the most experienced top-flight drivers in the tournament this year, had a horrible run, allowing tin-top driver Roy Mellows to capitalise on the Finn's various mistakes. Fellow F1RWRS alumni Renaldo Jiménez had a lazy spin into the barriers from which he could not extricate himself, leaving Wim-Bert Horrie to cruise around to a simple victory.

The surprises just kept on coming - part-time driver for Gillet last season and former F1RWRS race winner Daniel Moreno looked rusty as he was eliminated with surprising ease by touring car racer Arthur Daniels. Yet another member of the F1RWRS alumni would succumb to their own poor performance, this time Israeli wheelman Brucie Kibbutz failing to muster a worthy performance, leaving Alex Geinhart to progress from their eliminator on merit.

Youth fails to trump experience
As well as Yamamura, the contest featured several highly-regarded young talents, but some notable names failed to show their perceived talents. Naas Botha fell into the same trap as he had done on several occasions in AR 2.0 this year, pushing too hard and colliding with the wall, damaging his buggy and leaving the sensible Gabriela Scopelli to take a clean run for victory. Jochen Märko is a highly rated young truck racer, but he found himself thrashed by old-timer Danilo di Longo, with a gaping time difference of almost a second a lap between the two. Meanwhile James Turner, who is on the radar of many an IPC team after his performances in the Lupo GTi series, couldn't handle the more experienced tin-top racer Andoni Garrido.

Title favourites round-up
In terms of the other top seeds, Alexey Buyvolov demonstrated clearly to all why he was the first seed, with a crushing performance against Carlo Waladi, winning his heat by a little under 7 seconds, and setting a time over two and a half seconds faster than anyone else at this stage of the competition. He will be tough to beat on this form. Jari Kekkonen did not have to flex his muscles even slightly - his opponent Dominic Strass-Cahn rolled his buggy onto its roof and out of the contest only a few corners into the first lap, leading the Finn to drive cautiously all the way to the finish.

It was not all easy going for the other big names that progressed to the next round though. Evgeny Restov's opening round time was poor, and would have seen him eliminated in several of the other match-ups. However, his opponent Jimmy Hopkins was far and away the slowest driver in AR 2.0 North America this year, so not even the US driver on his top form would be enough to overcome an off-the-boil Restov. Nicolas Steele was equally bad in his heat (only a tenth faster than Restov), but again, his opponent Khaled Al-Dizi did not have the level of talent needed to capitalise on the poor performance turned in by the F1RWRS race winner.

Round of 32: Ones to watch
The pick of the next round of 16 fixtures sees the highly talented youngster Andrej Kremnicky facing off against touring car veteran Jack Maddock for a place in the third round. Kremnicky, coming off the back of his debut year in the top category of RWRS, is hungry to secure a renewal and stay in the sport, while Maddock comes off the back of a disappointing year by his standards, following up being the bridesmaid to Paul Jenkins in 2015 and 2016 with only two podiums and 9th overall in the AR Super Touring championship. Both have points to prove, and it's sure to be an intense battle. Jari Kekkonen meanwhile must not relax after his easy route into this round, with another tin-top driver in the form of Lee Brockhurst giving him genuine competition for progress into the next round. Similarly, Nicolas Steele faces off against former works Dacia driver Garry Jones for his place in the Round of 16.

Rejectsport wrote:ROR Round of 32: Kekkonen out with a whimper, Coelho continues to defy odds

The elimination format puts the drivers under intense pressure to succeed, and it seems title hopeful Jari Kekkonen, along with several others, simply couldn't handle it.

The Finn put in the outright slowest time of the entire field in this stage of the competition, leaving his British opponent Lee Brockhurst to take the duel with complete ease. Kekkonen had been one of the favourites for victory going into the tournament, but he leaves having been unable to set a time under the 2 minute mark all weekend.

David isn't finished yet
The opening round saw plenty of Goliath-killing antics from unfancied drivers, and the same drivers who progressed against the odds in the opener were at it again in the Round of 32. Laurindo Coelho, who shocked onlookers after eliminating Akira Yamamura to reach this phase, marches on to the Round of 16 thanks to overcoming the lacklustre Raul Souto Maior, who given his wealth of experience in formulae immediately below the top tier, should really have done much better against his amateur opponent.

Alex Geinhart meanwhile was released by his AR 2.0 team immediately after the season had concluded, and is racing to save his career goal as a professional driver. His back against the wall, he turned in a decent run to overcome the reasonably well rated Alessandro Marchesi and progress to the next stage of the Race of Rejects.

Title Favourites Review
Andrej Kremnicky on paper had one of the toughest fixtures to progress to the next round, up against touring car ace Jack Maddock. However, the end result was awfully straightforward, the Slovak absolutely hammering his Australian opponent with the fastest time of anyone in the Round of 32. He will face the surprise package of Alex Geinhart in the next round.

Meanwhile, Alexey Buyvolov continued his good form with a clean run to easily dispatch truck specialist Terry Stein, and his Russian compatriot Evgeny Restov got his act together after a poor opening round to overcome the surprisingly rapid Leon de Teodoro. It was unfortunate for the Cuban youngster - his time would have seen him progress from most of the other duels in the second round, but luck of the draw was against him in pairing him up to an F1 veteran.

With many of the higher seeded drivers already eliminated, Lasse Tilkesson is beginning to look a possible dark horse, with a very good performance against Roy Mellows earmarking him as one to watch as the competition progresses further.

Round of 16 Preview
Easily the pick of the bunch from the next round is the opening duel between Alexey Buyvolov and Lasse Tilkesson. Both are on top form heading into this tie, and while on paper Buyvolov may be the favourite, it will take all his ability being on show to ensure he doesn't end up eliminated by the Swedish touring car hotshot.

Elsewhere, the surprise trio of Gabriela Scopelli, Laurindo Coelho and Alex Geinhart have mixed fortunes going into this round. Scopelli faces off against the so far consistent Diego Pereira, while Geinhart needs the most luck of anyone still in the contest to have a hope of competing with his opponent, Andrej Kremnicky.

Strangely though for Coelho, this is on paper his easiest opponent so far, against the far less experienced Alexander Obolensky. Having defeated Yamamura and Souto Maior to get this far, it might be considered almost disappointing to be eliminated by what may be perceived as his weakest opponent so far.

Best In The World Switzerland would like to offer the role of reserve driver of our Škoda-using IPC A-Class team to Judd McAllister. We already have worked together in Formula Three and want him to work with our touring car effort whilst we look to get him involved in single-seaters, Obviously, he will become part of the Best In The World Support Group if he accepts our offer, which will enable him to extend his prominence beyond motorsport.

The FIA would like to offer Maven O'Connor the role of Safety Car driver in Formula One.

The FIA would like to offer Jimmy Hopkins a job joining Ferrari as development driver for the standard Planetary CVT to be used by all teams from the 2018 season on. He will also be offered the chance to compete in the North American rounds of IPC with Renzo Alfa Romeo, with an agreement already in place with the team.

Rejectsport wrote:ROR Round of 16: Top two seeds fall, miracle man marches on

Both rounds so far produced their fair share of surprises, but just when many expected the order to finally settle down, the status quo that had been established earlier in the tournament continued in earnest. The two highest ranked drivers in the tournament were gone by the end of the round.

How the mighty have fallen
First up to duel and first to spectacularly be knocked out was F1RWRS title protagonist Alexey Buyvolov. The favourite to take the trophy had been in imperious form leading up to his tie with Lasse Tilkesson, and looked a safe bet as top seed to be champion. However, he finally made a mistake after two great runs earlier in the tournament, and this left Tilkesson a window to capitalise. However, he too ran wide into a wall, meaning both were scrabbling to end desperate to stay in the contest. In the end, it was Tilkesson that edged the contest, which had become more about survival than a quest to see who was the fastest.

The other scalp was Nicolas Steele. He pushed too hard at the start, spinning at the exit of a corner. While his 3 point turn to recover was rapid, the game was already up - John Magnus proceeded to the next round once again by making a slow and steady run from start to finish, much like his other two performances so far against error-prone opponents.

Mixed fortunes for miracle men (and woman)
The Round of 16 would be the end of the road for two brave troopers, who had defied the odds to make it this far to begin with. Alex Geinhart, who had overcome Brucie Kibbutz and Alessandro Marchesi to come this far, finally found a foe too strong to overcome, with Andrej Kremnicky putting in a measured performance to see off the young American. Similarly, Gabriela Scopelli had no answer for young hotshot Diego Pereira, with the Portuguese driver putting in by far the fastest time of anyone in this round.

There was one last good news story though. It was that man again, Laurindo Coelho, ranked stone dead last of the entire field going into the tournament, who had already defied all the odds to get this far. After dealing with Akira Yamamura and Raul Souto Maior, the Portuguese amateur racer was clearly riding the crest of a wave of confidence, and Alexander Obolensky's cage was sufficiently rattled for the Russian to put in a run laden with small mistakes, all of which added up to a poor performance which the smooth if unspectacular Coelho was able to overcome. Given the drivers left in the draw, ending up with Lee Brockhurst for company in the quarter finals is about as good as it could possibly be for him going forward.

Quarter Finals Preview
We haven't quite reached the phase yet where the biggest hitters are facing off against each other, but that time is getting closer. Both Lasse Tilkesson and Diego Pereira have become dark horses for the Race of Rejects title, and will duel for the right to face off against the winner of the Coelho v Brockhurst contest.

On the other side of the draw, Evgeny Restov, who has been gradually getting stronger as the tournament has worn on, will face off against the so far super-consistent Judd McAllister, who has done a good job of keeping his head down and bringing the car home cleanly at a decent pace without fuss. However, if Restov can finally unlock his top gear, the one that gave him wins in Formula 1, McAllister may not have an answer. Andrej Kremincky has a considerably easier task on his hands against Brit John Magnus. Magnus has got this far mostly by putting in so-so times while his opponents have thrown away their chances, so a mistake free run by the Slovak hotshot will see only one result.

Rejectsport wrote:ROR Quarter Finals: Title favourites progress over three legs

With the shift to the later stages of the tournament, the stakes became higher, and so the format changed adjustingly. Now drivers would have to beat each other in a best of three scenario. And in the end, three of the four drivers needed to take advantage of this new format to progress from battles they would have been eliminated from in the previous single duel format.

Tilkesson vs Pereira
The only driver who both won their opening heat and progressed to the next round was Diego Pereira. Lasse Tilkesson made a mess of his opening run, leaving Pereira to take an easy win, but quickly make amends with a good time in the second duel. This set up a winner takes all final leg, and Pereira simply had too much for the Swede, setting a blistering time that couldn't be matched. It was a convincing victory from Pereira, giving him a well deserved ticket to the semis.

Brockhurst vs Coelho
Laurindo Coelho had already amazed everyone by making it this far, but as an underdog defeats more and more highly rated opponents, so their next rival takes the minnow more seriously, leading to their demise in the contest. It looked like this would ring true following the opener, and while Coelho set his tournament PB in the first head, Lee Brockhurst went quicker still to pick up the lead. And so it looked the amateur Portuguese driver had shown his hand, and the result would be inevitable.

It was anything but. Brockhurst bottled it despite Coelho being off his previous pace, spinning off and losing several seconds leading to a levelled score and a final duel. Coelho was back to his best again, and the spin when so close to victory seemed to have fazed the touring car ace from Britain. Brockhurst was suddenly devoid of pace, and improving on his tournament PB again, Coelho suddenly found himself victorious from yet another against-the-odds match-up. The semi-finals beckon, where surely fellow countryman Diego Pereira will have too much skill for him to handle.

Restov vs McAllister
These drivers had very similar styles in the tournament so far. No fuss, no maximum attack, keep all four wheels away from the walls and pointing the right way at all costs. They hadn't shown the raw speed of Kremnicky, Buyvolov and Pereira, but then one of those three had been eliminated from the contest, so perhaps this approach had its merits.

Judd McAllister set times in the 1:57s in all three heats. It was enough to edge out an over-cautious Evgeny Restov in the first run, but the Russian driver upped the ante when his participation in the tournament was on the line, and McAllister simply had no answer.

Magnus vs Kremnicky
John Magnus had his fair share of luck to make it to the quarter finals. His opponents had buckled under the pressure of the single run elimination format, the Brit setting average times while his opponents melted into oblivion. This time though his opponent was significantly faster than those previous, one who at only 90% effort had enough in the tank to be faster.

And yet Andrej Kremnicky needed all three heats to progress to the semi-finals. An error-strewn first run gave Magnus a 1-0 lead, but the Slovak youngster made amends with comfortable victories in the following duels. He faces off against Restov in a battle between the remaining top seeds in the second semi-final.

Rejectsport wrote:ROR Semi-Finals: Youngsters crumble under pressure

This tournament was starting to look like one where the young, fast, unabated aggression of the young pretenders would bear fruit. Those who had erred on the side of caution had mostly fallen by the wayside at this point, but by the end of the semi-finals, that fast and furious style would emphatically fail for the drivers in question.

Pereira vs Coelho
Diego Pereira must have been thanking his lucky stars for how the draw panned out initially, and happy that Laurindo Coelho had somehow got as far as he did. Possible opponents on his side of the draw between Pereira and the final would have been Akira Yamamura and Jari Kekkonen. An amateur sportscar racer was a relief by comparison.

Perhaps Pereira went into this thinking it was already won. That he wouldn't need to drive even close to his best to progress to the final. Whatever it was, his driving looked casual, and he took too long to wake up and realise the tournament was slipping through his fingers.

The younger of the two Portuguese drivers cruised through the first leg, and he foolishly let Coelho have the victory by less than half a tenth. Letting his concentration wane, he slid wide and into a half-spin. He made up the time lost, but fell only centimetres short of making amends and taking the first heat. This suddenly put him under pressure to deliver in the next heat, but by now he had lost his cool. And even bigger mistake when pushing way too hard, attempting to demoralise his opponent with a crushing victory as he had done previously in the event with other foes, meant Coelho could drive steadily to the finish and record a 2-0 win. Pereira became the first man to fall victim to a straight-wins elimination.

And so, we keep saying it every single time, after every single round. Nobody is quite sure how or why it has happened. And yet here we are. Laurindo Coelho, favourite for elimination in every single race he has competed in this weekend, has achieved the impossible. The lowest ranked driver in the entire competition has made it to the final, overcoming countless professionals on his way there. But he was guaranteed to be facing off against one of the outright top seeds in the final, whose experience at the highest level would surely not give Coelho even a chance to survive.

Restov vs Kremnicky
All expected this to be a closer battle than the previous duel (just not in the manner that it happened). These two are the remaining favourites, surely one of these two, whoever it is, are destined to win the final. Both have a raced at the highest level of motorsport, and while Restov has countless years of experience to bank on, Kremnicky has more raw talent and speed to bank on. Which of the two approaches would win out?

Restov's level head won him the first round. Kremnicky, determined to prove himself and that he could turn his pace into results once and for all, instead did what he always did, drove a wild and careless race, hitting countless walls and tearing up his buggy so badly, he was almost limping to the finish.

The second time round however, he had cut out the mistakes without losing any of the pace. He was lightning fast, and Restov's attempts to keep up were in vain, himself making some mistakes and leaving his buggy worse for wear. And so the decider would most likely be a case of win or bust for the young Slovak. He clearly had the pace advantage, but would he make it to the end without ruining his own race.

The answer was, predictably, no. Kremnicky demonstrated his achilles heel yet again, so close to a great result and showing he has the pace of the best drivers, but unable to see through his pace into a good result. A half-spin was enough to lose him the final head-to-head, and hand a place in the final to Evgeny Restov. Measured experience had trumped unabated youthful exuberance.

At this point, all semblance of calm and measured driving had vanished from Andrej Kremnicky's repertoire. Still smarting from being eliminated in the semis by Restov, he was perhaps too eager to make amends in the third place race-off, and it showed in his driving.

Diego Pereira, himself having learned the hard way that care-free driving was a one-way ticket to defeat, cleaned up his act for the fight to be on the final step of the podium, and it paid dividends.

Kremnicky tapped every wall and jumped every kerb in sight on the first run, throwing his buggy around like a ragdoll, while Pereira took a leaf out of the Restov book and went slow and steady to the end to win the first of five duels, up from three legs from the previous two rounds of the contest.

Kremnicky finally cooled his temperament for the second head-to-head and levelled the score, and then pulled out one of the uber-quick times that had got him this far in the contest to begin with to take a 2-1 lead. Suddenly brimming with confidence, he went and reverted to his previous state. High on adrenaline, and on the brink of securing third, he had a spectacular accident, launching off the bridge jump too quickly, rounding the next corner on two wheels and rolling over into the outside wall, pitching him back into the inside and wrecking his buggy.

The scores were level again with one last duel to settle the tie. Kremnicky's cage had been rattled. Literally, the impact from the accident had bent one section of his rollcage to the point he needed to swap to another buggy. But the impact was clearly psychological, Kremnicky was out of his groove again, and yet another wild, desperate performance handed victory to the much calmer Pereira.

The result guaranteed an excellent result for Portugal in the event, as with surprise package Laurendo Coelho in the final, two Portuguese drivers were certain to be standing on the podium after the grand finale.

Rejectsport wrote:ROR Grand Final - Racing redefined as amateur racer defeats F1 veteran to snatch ROR title

The Race of Rejects came to its conclusion at last, with highly experienced single seater driver Evgeny Restov facing off against amateur endurance racer Laurindo Coelho for the grand prize. On paper it was a completely one-sided contest, but then the same was said of every round Coelho had progressed through to get here. Write him off at your peril. Restov learned this the hard way at the start.

Indeed, what had happened on many occasions occured yet again - Restov started at a casual rate, and when after the first full 'lap' was completed, Coelho was level. Evgeny panicked. He ran wide and into the wall a few corners later. The front right was no longer tracking correctly, and the time lost cost him the heat. 1-0 down. He knew the mistakes had to stop.

The second heat was Restov's PB for the entire tournament. He made it clear in no uncertain terms to Coelho that he was the faster driver, and that it was his title to take. And yet, he made a similar mistake to his first heat in the third, and suddenly he had to reassert his authority in fourth, once again setting a time Coelho could not get close to.

It was 2-2. Restov had made some uncharacteristic mistakes, but surely if it was business as usual for the Russian, the title would be his. Only a mistake free run stood between him and the Race of Rejects trophy.

Or so we all thought.

Coelho was clearly well aware this may be the closest he will ever come to a glorious victory on the big stage, and he went hell for leather. The tried and true method of sitting back, going just fast enough to put in a reasonable time, enough to make the big guns feel the need to step up their game and cause unforced errors, was retired after the fourth heat. He threw caution to the wind. He was kissing walls on the way through his final run. Restov was clearly pushing, and when they crossed the line after 2 laps of four of the asymmetrical loop track, he turned his head left in bemusement, surprised to see the Portuguese driver there. Restov was actually racing at full tilt, and yet Coelho was still level with him.

They stayed level. The whole way. Tit for tat. Coelho was doing something professional drivers are renowned for - finding an extra gear (metaphorically speaking) when the time requires it. As the drivers crossed the line, the crowd went beserk. The audience realised they had just witnessed racing history. By a mere seven hundredths of a second, an amateur racer had turned up at a professional tournament and defeated everyone in his path. In one weekend, Laurindo Coelho had gone from zero to hero.

The Race of Rejects had truly lived up to its name, its new champion a true advocate of the cause. Long live King Coelho.

As consequence of his legendary victory at the Race of Rejects, the Best In The World Support Group would like to offer Laurendo Coelho a place. While we do not currently have a direct employment lined up, arranging that is not a heavy obstacle. As we believe his story is one worth telling, we would arrange for a movie production telling the world of his triumph, obviously giving him an adequate part of the income thereof.

[OOC: If someone wants to offer him something more concrete, I will withdraw my offer, but you can still join the Best In The World Support Group which, as reliable users such as tommykl and salamander can confirm, will aid you in finding drives, should that become necessary.]

After some deliberation, Ronden had decided to offerr Judd McAllister a one year contract in F2, with an option for a second year.

Infiniti will offer Daniel Moreno a sort of semi-retirement, given his recent stressful experiences with Gillet at the back of the grid. His only commitment would be appearing at his home IPC round with the Infiniti All Stars team. As part of the deal, he will become a client of Voeckler Talent Management, who after a mental recovery period from his terrible stint last year will find him some part-time driving if he so wishes. Given he has just turned 50, it would be understandable if Moreno wanted to wind down his commitments to full-time racing somewhat.
