Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2015 Canada

by Shizuka
based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Ericsson's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

Post your results until June 12.

1) Maldonado: kept it clean even with his tires falling off.
2) Tie between Massa and Vettel, for those charges through the field. Yes I know both drivers are capable of doing that but it was impressive.

1. Nobody.
2. Maldonado, I suppose. The car was clearly on pace and he didn't really do anything wrong.

I suppose that those would be the ones who are closest to a stand-out - Maldonado put in a solid performance and does deserve at least some credit for some rather clever tyre management, whilst I guess that at least Massa and Vettel made it cleanly through the field (although, with the exception of the battle between Massa and Ericsson, in a fairly undramatic manner).

2.) Nobody

As big a Vetted fan as I am, he's a bloody 4x world champ with the second best car on the grid. He's expected to do that.

This has happened before so I feel justified in mentioning it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't write about BTCC (or indeed any other motorsport) in an F1 thread.

I can't be alone in always recording BTCC, WTCC and (usually) Formula E and watching later. Even more so when all 3 are on in the same weekend as F1. So don't give away the results, ta.

1) Kvyat - how he got a Renault engined car in the points, god only knows!
2) Maldonado - at last a consistent performance.

Honourable mention for those bemoaning the quality of the race. Come on guys, it wasn't THAT bad. Yes, maybe not exciting by Canada standards but we're hardly talking about Valencia standards here.

Another vote for that thing with fur on the track, whether it's a marmot, a groundhog, a beaver, or a cat in a wig. Not only did it make me think of Anthony Davidson and hence the mighty Super Aguri, not only did it stand there on the track as if to say "come and have a go if you think yer 'ard enough", it's in with a genuine shout of IIDOTR and nobody in the Predicament Predictions thread will have seen that coming!

You're not even getting an Honourable Mention. All right, you will, it's prime ROTR candidate Kimi Räikkönen for ensuring the first podium of the season that isn't two Mercs and a Ferrari!

Will Stevens on the radio - OI OI OI ESSEX IN THE HOUSE!
The groundhog - total badass. Didn't panic, didn't sprint, merely lolloped away half towards the oncoming cars.

1. Force India - Although by virtue of the Mercedes engine, the Force was finally somewhat decent again. Although Hulkenberg scored in Australia as well, there were some retirements there, unlike here. I would have thought Hulkenberg could dice it with the Red Bulls but he finished clearly ahead of both of them.

2. Maldonado - Because, well, yeah he had somewhat of the result you would expect with that car on this circuit instead of his usual bad luck?

Oh, God, this is actually only the second time this season that Hulkenberg has finished in the points? :badoer: Now that is depressing

1) Pastor Maldonado: Kept it together and didn't get struck by his usual bad luck.

2) The Groundhog: Yeah, not really all that many other competitors.

Honourable Mention: The Isle of Man TT Superbike race for providing me some motor racing excitement after the dull Grand Prix.
