Re: 2001 CART Series - 2 teams open/select chassis and engin

Post by Klon »

Let's rock, we are running Walker Racing.

We are aiming to acquire Ford-Cosworth engines, going with Toyota if that fails, and a Lola chassis.

Yay, every team now has a manager. Please post your choice of chassis and engine.

Re: 2001 CART Series - Calendar posted / Engine deals RNG

Post by Rabbi Gordon »

Honda RNG:
Six teams applied for a place in the Japanese engine program, with Green being granted factory support, meaning that one would have to settle for Toyota power, but at least one small, one car team will get the top engine.
R1:
Penske 1-50
Ganassi 51-75
Andretti 75-94
Sigma 95-97
Bettenhausen 98-100

And the first number is... 34. As expected, top team Penske takes the first Honda deal.

R2:
Ganassi 1-40
Andretti 41-75
Sigma 76-90
Betten 91-100

The second number is... 85! Sigma lands the Honda contract and now has one of the most competitive packages in the whole series.

R3:
Ganassi 1-50
Andretti 51-85
Bettenhausen 86-100

The third number is 28. Ganassi, albeit a round later than expected, takes the Hondas.

R4:
Andretti 1-65
Bettenhausen 66-100
The last number is...29. So the final Honda engine goes to Andretti.

Bettenhausen gets a Toyota deal for 2 million.

Re: 2001 CART Series - Calendar posted / Engine deals RNG

Post by Rabbi Gordon »

Ford-Cosworth RNG
The Cosworth engine was the most sought-after powerplant, probably owing to its good reliability. 7 teams looking to get a deal and 5 will get it.

R1:
Rahal 1-30
Forsythe 31-60
Patrick 61-70
PacWest 71-80
Mo Nunn 81-90
Fernández 91-96
Walker 97-100

The first number is... 68! A surprise here, albeit Ford favored Rahal and Forsythe, Patrick gets the Ford engines first.

R2:
Rahal 1-35
Forsythe 36-65
PacWest 66-75
Mo Nunn 76-90
Fernández 91-96
Walker 97-100

The second deal goes to Forsythe. The number is 62.

R3:
Rahal 1-40
PacWest 45-60
Mo Nunn 61-75
Fernández 76-90
Walker 91-100

The third Ford powerplant is... Rahal's. 32.

R4:
Mo Nunn 1-35
PacWest 36-70
Fernandez 71-88
Walker 89-100

The fourth engine goes to... PacWest. The number was 67.

R5: Last chance
Mo Nunn 1-45
Fernandez 46-80
Walker 81-100

The last Cosworth's number is... 46! This means Fernández barely gets the nod from Ford over Mo Nunn.

Somewhat surprisingly Mo Nunn Racing and Walker Racing will have to settle for the Toyota engine.

Driver list DRIVERS IN GREEN FONT ARE AVAILABLE!
Professionals from CART and IRL, looking for a paid drive: (The number in brackets is an estimated price, drivers can sign for lower than that or ask for more in some cases.)

Gil de Ferran - (signed) An all-around top driver, the favorite for a championship. Experienced, consistently fast, sponsor friendly.
Helio Castroneves - (signed) Another driver who is Brazilian and can go fast anywhere. Very young and it affects his reliability.
Kenny Brack - (signed) Kenny is a top driver and expects a top team to seek his services. Ovals are his love, but no slouch on road courses either.
Michael Andretti - (signed) Michael left Newman-Haas to revitalize his career and start a new team. (ONLY drives for Andretti Motorola)
Cristiano da Matta - (signed) A star in the making, now in his 3rd season, looks to place a challenge for the championship. Can't ride the bigger rollercoasters due to his height.

Dario Franchitti - (signed) Top competitor for the past few seasons, although too inconsistent to win a championship. So far.
Paul Tracy - (signed) Paul Tracy.
Tony Kanaan - (signed) Well-regarded and still young. Tony is looking for a big team with the backing to be amongst the very best.
Jimmy Vasser - (5m) A seasoned former champion. Ace oval driver, but good on the road courses too.
Max Papis - (signed) Rhapsodic driver, but no one can stop Mad Max if he gets in the rythm of the race.

Roberto Moreno - (signed) The savior of the minnows, Bebo is looking for a competitive package, but could reconsider his salary if a smaller team wants him.
Scott Dixon - (signed) Top rookie prospect, fresh from a dominant Indy Lights championship. Expect him to take the series by storm. Will not sign for the top 6 teams.
Christian Fittipaldi - (signed) Consistent, will get podiums, maybe wins, but not a championshipp unless everything goes his way. Keep him away from Petty.
Bruno Junqueira - (signed) F3000 champion who could not secure an F1 drive. Talented, fast, young.
Alex Tagliani - (3.5m) Sophomore driver with high hopes to challenge the title. Maybe a bit too high, but we'll see.

Patrick Carpentier - (signed) Wins have eluded him so far, but he is a competitve driver for a fair pay.
Buddy Lazier - (signed) Not looking to leave Hemelgarn, but a good team might tempt him enough to do so. Oval specialist.
Bryan Herta - (2.5m) Used to be a winner, but a bit rusty now.
Oriol Servià - (signed) Reliable, level-headed. Not something you often see from Spanish drivers. Expected to bring the car home on every occasion and contends for podiums on a few.
Alex Zanardi - (signed) Once a great, now pretty much a liability on the track. Could still win, but more likely to wreck.

Mark Blundell - (retired) Past his prime, but a good, reliable bet for a small team.
Memo Gidley - (1m) He can't really decide whether he is Mexican or American.
Scott Sharp - (IRL) Oval specialist, maybe a surprise with his performaces, maybe not.
Alex Barron - (signed) Does quite neatly in the ovals, but one shan't expect much from him on street courses.
Jeff Ward - (IRL) CART might be a step too big for him, but he is a more than decent oval driver.

Pay drivers: (Amount brackets is an "estimate", actual one is a subject of an RNG)

Michel Jourdain, Jr. (signed) Experienced and dependable. Not going to bring much in cash, but will trouble some paid pros on the track. Wants a single-car team.
Maurício Gugelmin (signed) Even more experience, but he is past his prime. Still a good qualifier.
Max Wilson (+1m from VARIG) Good driver, but crashes too often to capitalise on it.
Tora Takagi (+2m from Denso) Tigeeer Takagiii. Japan top driver. Bring money. Drive car fast. Buy new car after race. More money Honda.

Shinji Nakano (signed) Calm, but not fast. Will bring the car home in one piece. Might pay more if his team has a Japanese engine.

Nicolas Minassian (signed) Mediocre in every field, but not too wreckless though.
Michael Krumm (Japan) Not used to CART competition, will not race ovals, but his sponsor is not sharing the car with another pay driver.
Luiz Garcia, Jr. (signed) Horrid driver. Expect him to be at the very back. Hopeless on ovals.
Dennis Vitolo (inactive) Are you this much desperate?

Mark Dismore (IRL) Happy to race and isn't that bad.
Jim Guthrie (signed) Likely to mortgage his house and secure additional funds. Decent oval driver.
Gastón Mazzacane (F1) Reliable, but not much more. Bad on ovals.
David Saelens (signed) F3000 driver, might turn out to be decent.

Boris Derichebourg (+1.5m from Derichebourg Properties) Should not have any problems with qualifying within 107%.
Mark Smith (retired) Good driver, steady and dependable. However he has been out of a drive for 7 years.
Geoff Boss/Andy Boss (signed) Geoff races road and street courses, Andy races ovals. Geoff is half-decent. Andy isn't.
Jonny Kane (+1m from XPower) Not too slow, but not reliable either. Needs an extra h.

If someone wants to, 2000 and 2001 Top 10s from Atlantics and Indy Lights will get an RNG to determine eligibility and payment.

You can place offers on other drivers too! Just stay reasonable. (Eg. Sarah Fisher or Mario Dominguez are okay, Jeff Gordon or Mika Hakkinen are not.)

2 car teams can go under their budget by 1 million and one car teams can go under it by .5m

Fair point (although you included others who were not on the list). Now I included that you can place offers on others.

Re: 2001 CART Series - Calendar and Engines done, select dri

Post by Rabbi Gordon »

As I am waiting for 6 teams to place their bids, I'll share how the races will be run.

Every driver has base stats of course. (3 talent files per driver, one for street courses, one for road courses and one for ovals.) These are affected by quite a few things. First, there is the "weekend" modifier. It's a random number between 1-20. Works like this:
#32 - Ricky Craven
BaseQualifying: 5.11 BaseRace: 3.78
Weekend modifier: 1
Actual Quali for the weekend: 6.11 Actual race for the weekend: 4.78
So 1 deducts one full "point" from the driver's abilities, 20 adds one.

The team modifier is a smaller thing, it disables the lowest scores possible, like if the modifier is a really low number, the team can "help" the driver do a bit better:
Example:
#32 - Ricky Craven
BaseQualifying: 5.11 BaseRace: 3.78
Weekend modifier: 1 PPI Racing's value range is 3-17, then the driver runs with 4 wm.

Then there is the daily feeling. 1-5. 3 changes nothing, other two can add or deduct from the driver's likeliness to pass and crash.

Might sound overcomplicated, but it really isn't.

Sorry, I know it's only been 5 days altogether, but if you guys have time for it, hit me with the pms containing your driver selection.

I only need PacWest now.

Apologies to the 3 guys whose teams were listed here, but have sent their offers via email. Being relatively new, I didn't know it was a possibility.

I'm sorry if this seems pushy or anything, I just can't wait to get it started :D

You might consider sending them PMs directly about it yourself. The new notification bar sticks out like a sore thumb, there's been a pretty dramatic uptake in use of the PM system since I added it.

Drivers! Part one.

Gil de Ferran
The defending champion, who is a class act both on and off the track got four offers each at least matching his asking price.

Green 7.5m 1-35
Penske 7.5m 36-70
Rahal 6.5m 71-85
Newman-Haas 6.5m 86-100
The single most awaited number is... 33! de Ferran thanks Roger for all he did for him and sets off to a new challenge at Team Green.

Hélio Castroneves
Surprisingly enough, Hélio is not really sought after. His only offer was from his current employer, Penske, so he takes an extension as the leading driver.

Kenny Brack
Kenny is looking for a deal where he is the lead driver, so he favors Rahal over Penske, but he'll consider both.
Rahal 1-65
Penske 66-100
The number is... 4. Kenny takes his real-life ride at Rahal.

Michael Andretti
Drives for his own team.
Andretti Racing 1-100
The number is 73. lel

Cristiano da Matta
3 offers for the young Brazilian, but one is out, as in ALL of his offers, he was 2nd choice to de Ferran.
Penske 6m 1-60
Rahal 5.75m 61-100
The number is... 77. da Matta takes the Rahal #7.

Dario Franchitti, Now having only one offer left on the table, the Scot tones his house-sized ego down a bit and takes the 2nd driver role at Penske.

Paul Tracy proved too much of a character to handle for most teams. Having received two bids and only one of them remains. He signs for Forsythe and gets ready to "kick butt".

Tony Kanaan is elated to be offered to lead Newman-Haas's effort and he signs with his signature huge smile.

Max Papis is more than happy to lead the Ganassi squad and will try his best to match another fast Italian's performance there.

Roberto Moreno takes the only remaining bid, which is from his real-life employer, Patrick Racing.

Scott Dixon takes the only offer he has received, the one from Mo Nunn. He is though, happy to have already attracted a top team and explains that he is looking to do a year of learning as a rookie without any big pressure on him. Next year he is happy to hear the offer again and will look at it favorably.

Drivers! Part two.

Christian Fittipaldi
Two teams took prolonged interest in the seasoned Brazilian. Newman-Haas is the bigger team and they offer more money too.
Newman-Haas 3.5m 1-65
Patrick 3m 66-100
85! Christian prefers the less-stressful seat and becomes second-fiddle to Bebo at Patrick.

Bruno Junqueira was a very popular choice with 6 initial offers. By now, he has three offers laying on his table and two are ready to take him on the spot.
Forsythe 3.5m 1-35
Newman-Haas 3.5m 36-70
Fernández 3.2m 71-100
The number is... 44. Bruno completes the Newman lineup.

Many teams have made bids for Alex Tagliani, but at the moment none of them are still available. Tagliani is a free agent.

Patrick Carpentier
has two offers remaining, one from Adrián Fernández and one from Bruce McCaw.
PacWest 3m 1-60
Fernández 2.7m 61-100
54! Patrick is driving for PacWest this season.

Buddy Lazier has recieved an offer from Forsythe, but he is keen on staying at Hemelgarn.
Forsythe 2.5m 1-50
Hemelgarn in IRL 51-100
8! Buddy does the switch the other way and takes the Forsythe seat.

Bryan Herta having not recieved any offers will rethink some things.

Oriol Servia was a very popular choice amongst midfielders. Probably because his low pay and high reliability. Mo Nunn made him 1st choice in his 2nd car. He is second choice at Fernández and PacWest and 3rd choice at Bettenhausen.
Mo Nunn 2m 1-33
PacWest 2m 34-66
Fernandez 1.8m 67-90
Bettenhausen 2m 91-100
78! The Spaniard teams up with Fernández to have a Spanish-speaking environment. (Even though I know that Servia speaks English really well.)

Alex Zanardi, former champion of the series, loves to race and will not even consider retiring as long as he has any seats offered to him. He has two offers present. One from Sigma and one from Mo Nunn.
Mo Nunn 2m 1-55
Sigma 1.8m 56-100
61! Zanardi decides that a competitive car and the team's full-focus on him is what he needs to gain back his confidence. Sigma has a promising package. If it finishes.

Dan Wheldon
, very surprised by a team as big as Green, but he fancies a challenge, although he doesn't understand why they wouldn't pay him.
Wants a paid drive 1-60
Drives for free 61-90
Able to get 1m 91-100
The number is 78! Dan decides to go for it anyway, although is he's successful throughout the season, he'll reconsider this money thingy.

Re: 2001 CART Series - Drivers signed

Post by Rabbi Gordon »

Drivers! Part three.

Sarah Fisher is absoloutely overwhelmed by the offer she recieved from Ganassi, but she wouldn't leave her current team without any consideration.
Ganassi for 2.5m 1-80
Only drives in IRL for Walker 80-85
Splits IRL and CART for Walker (800k) 86-100
39. To everyone's surprise, Sarah is on her way to Ganassi.

Scott Sharp has recieved an offer from Arciero, but he feels like his Kelley ride can propel him to an IRL title.
Arciero on ovals 1-45
Kelley in IRL 46-100
95. Scott stays in IRL.

Jimmy Vasser is not happy with only one offer and that being less than a third of his asking price and would seriously consider IRL.
IRL 1-70
Walker for 1.5m 71-100
62. Jimmy is exploring his options in the rival series.

Joey Hand thinks he could use some learning, but is seriously looking into the Walker offer.
Stays in Atlantic 1-30
Accepts the Walker drive 31-100
21... Wow, Walker is quite an unlucky team here.

Jim Guthrie is looking to return to racing, although he is not sure if he can handle road courses.
Coyne with a split schedule: 1-30
Walker for the ovals: 31-60
Walker for the full season: 61-100
51! Walker finally has a driver. But he is not going to do the full season.
Moneyz:
+1m - 1-15
+1.5m -1 6-45
+2m - 46-85
+2.5m - 86-98
+3m - 99-100
100! Jim Guthrie can muster up 3 million in sponsorhip for Walker Racing! That certainly helps them to find his teammate.

Alex Barron recieved an offer which stands for an oval only and one for a road course only option. The oval option is his preferred one and it pays 5x. He takes Arciero.

Shinji Nakano is only contacted by Arciero, so he takes what he can.
Payment: Alpine wants that Shinji races at Motegi, but is happy that the team has Toyota power.
.5m 1-25
1m 25-75
1.5m 76-100
39. Alpine provides 1 million for Shinji.

Mauricio Gugelmín has received offers from Bettenhausen, PacWest and Mo Nunn
Mo Nunn 1-33
PacWest 34-66
Bettenhausen 67-99
Retires 100
24. Maurício completes the Mo Nunn lineup.
Gugelmin can bring the one million he found under a bag of chips.

Michel Jourdain, Jr. takes the Bettenhausen car without any second thoughts. Herdez pays an amount of .5m and covers the bill for any wrecks of Michel's fault.

David Saelens is happy to race for PacWest. He is seeking for sponshorship.
Can bring 0.5m 1-15
Gets 1m 16-65
Gets 1.5m 66-90
Gets 2m 91-100
22. Saelens is able to provide 1 million for the seat.

The Dale Coyne part:
Hornish much prefers a championship caliber IndyCar with a check addressed to him.
J.Lazier:
Stays in IRL: 1-50
Goes to CART: 51-100
21. Lazier looks to get the Menard drive in IRL.
The Shiggynator would love to get Epson behind him, but he is denied a license.
Tomas Enge:
Nordic in F3000: 1-70
Coyne in the full season: 71-90
Coyne for the street/road circuits: 91-100
84! Enge agrees to race for Coyne, given that he races the full season.
Moneyz:
His sponsors can't contribute with any money: 1-15
He can get 1m: 16-55
He can get 2m: 56-80
He can get 2.5m: 81-100
55. Tomas Enge can pay 1 million, but wants to drive the full season.
Enrique Bernoldi just received an offer from Arrows who were pretty good in 2000. He is not considering the Coyne offer.
Tarso Marques:
Goes to Minardi for the full season: 1-85
Goes to Coyne for the road/street circuits: 86-99
Looks at the two teams above and thinks about the choices he made in life: 100
24. Minardi it is.
Dark Dog is only sponsoring a full-season. Krumm is not statisfied with the offer, Dark Dog is not statisfied with the note, especially because Guthrie is Walker's driver.
Luiz Garcia, Jr.:
Wants a full season: 1-45
Agrees to drive only on road/street, but for lower money: 46-90
Accepts the offer: 91-100
71. Garcia is okay with driving the Coyne Lela-Ilmor.
Moneyz:
He brings 1m: 1-50
He brings 1.5m: 51-100
28. Garcia has 1m.

I need Walker to make an offer for a driver who drives the #5 on the road courses.

Looks like Dale's gonna need to make some more phone calls while he takes Enge's and Garcia's offers under consideration.

Therefore, Dale Coyne would like to make the following offers to the following drivers before committing to a lineup:

Max Wilson
Richie Hearn
Townsend Bell
Casey Mears
Felipe Giaffone
Donnie "Bullet" Beechler
Anthony Lazzaro
Norberto Fontana
Nicolas Minassian
Mark Dismore
Gaston Mazzacane
Mark Smith

Max Wilson would agree to the same terms as Enge and would unarguably be faster.
Hearn prefers running his team in IRL.
Bell and Mears are interested in the ovals in the #21.
Bell - 1-50 no money 51-100 .5m 41 Bell can't pay.
Mears - 1-45 no money 46-90 .5m 91-100 1m. 67 Mears can offer .5m.
Giaffone is not interested.
Beechler is injured at the moment.
Lazzaro wants to stay in NASCAR.
Fontana can bring 1.5m for a full season in the #19 or .5 for the road courses only.
Minassian can bring 1.5m for a full season in the #19.

I forget that Arciero approached Bourdais too, so:

Hopefully this version of Buddy Lazier will prove that he was always good enough for CART - he certainly was the best driver the IRL ever had up until now.

Since this season is the down the drain already, Walker would like to hire the richest American driver available for the road courses, it doesn't matter what he is doing right now, it does not matter what his name is, the seat is on the market.

So I ended up with Wheldon eh. Crikey, this will be an interesting experiment. If he does well enough and we rake in some cash from de Ferran's prize money, maybe we will remunerate him later in the year.

Currently, your budget is 4 million. You can hire pretty much any remaining free agent (Tagliani, Vasser, Herta) for 2 million tops for the road courses.
But if you want Dennis Vitolo to struggle with 107%, he is up for it. :D

The engines roar for the first time and the venue is Milwaukee, where the first test of the season is under way.
Teams traditionally expected to be good are the main favorites to top the charts for the first time.
All eyes are on de Ferran, who tackles a new challenge and drives for Barry Green.

The session started off quietly and the 1st driver to take the track was Oriol Servia in the #52. He, predictably, ended up midpack.
The first real fast laps were laid by Dario Franchitti in the Penske #2, with 20.374, Dario led for the first 15 minutes, until Buddy Lazier stormed past the pits with a 20.349, which stood until the first red flag, caused by Tony Kanaan wrecking violently after contact with Patrick Carpentier. Image

After restarting, it took quite a while 'till times were back to the 20.3's-20.4's, but eventually Kenny Brack took control of the timesheet with setting a 20.344 and besting it only one lap later, with a 20.310. A minor interruption caused him to abort the third lap of this menacing run, as Tomas Enge hit the wall. The damage was light and Tomas got it repaired.

Nearing the end of the session, rookie David Saelens surprised everyone and put his car in P8 with a 20.479. Yet, he wasn't the best placed rookie at the end, as the Mo Nunn cars did a blistering last 10 minutes.

At the end, the session was ended prematurely, after a collapsing suspension sent Buddy Lazier heavily into the wall. Dario Franchitti, who was on pace to beat Brack spun avoiding the Forsythe machine. There was someone, who was not stopped by the crash and blasting through with full speed, Dan Wheldon set his fastest time in the last lap of the session.
