I've got this kit and I haven't dared to build it. There was a series of 4 or 5 from Revell of these IMSA GTO and Trans-Am kits. I've got 4 and they were very nice kits at the time, although they are more than 20 years old now, so the detailing, the engraving and the thickness of some parts isn't to the current standard.
Yeah it's a bit dated to be fair, and the decals had yellowed rather nastily so they don't match the white spray on the body at all but oh well! Still a very detailed kit and quite a challenge to put together!
Faustus wrote:-AndreaModa wrote:My public gallery is here: https://picasaweb.google.com/112217841994160176870
Doesn't seem to work?
Hmm I think I'm going to open another Flickr account for those pictures because Picasa is crap in comparison! I just have too many for one free Flickr account with all my other stuff with it, so when I do I'll get a link up!
Faustus wrote:AndreaModa wrote:Next up, and thus should be expected in at least 12 months' time, is Bellof's Jagermeister Porsche 956, so a bit more of an F1 link with that one! Also in the pipeline is a Kobayashi Sauber C30 so that should garner some interest!
Have you started the 956? Is it Tamiya, Hasegawa or Revell?
The Sauber C30 is the Revell 1/24 kit, right?
The 956 is now done! All lovely and orange, I finished it some time ago actually. It's the Revell kit, so interior detail is limited to the cockpit only, so overall it was very quick to put together. I'm really happy with the orange on it, because I was worried I wouldn't be able to get a good shade but it's turned out nicely! Just need to get some photos of it now!
The Sauber C30 is a brand new kit, it was released at the beginning of June I think, and it's a 1:20 Fujimi kit, so it's going to be mightily rare here in the UK. I pre-ordered it from Hobby Search in Japan as they had an introductory 30% discount on the price, which in Yen brought it down to about £20, so despite postage being virtually the same amount as the kit, I figured I might as well get it whilst it was going for a good price! They're only going to get more expensive now!
EDIT: Here's the link to the Sauber on the Hobby Search site: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10181514. It's currently going for 3,600 Yen, which is just shy of £30, and that's currently discounted from the regular price of 4000 Yen!
Re: 1/43 F1 Reject-themed model collection
Not too many lately, as I have been indulging my slight obsession with the Peugeot 908 and building up that collection.
I only have a couple to report:
Kazuki Nakajima in the Williams FW30 test-car from the 2nd Barcelona test of 2008. There are 2 different versions of this test car, both for Nakajima and Rosberg. And I will find them all.
Reject driver, test car and beautiful all-blue livery:
Eddie Keizan in the Lotus 72E from 1975:

Mostly eBay. There aren't many model shops left in the UK but some toy shops do sell these. I suppose there are always ModelZone shops as well, but their prices can be quite ridiculous. There are some very good websites that sell models. I keep up to date with the latest releases through a couple of magazines: a french one, Auto Modelisme (the best one, the absolute nuts), and a British one, Four Small Wheels.

It's the only model from Eddie Keizan's F1 career, as far as I can tell. Its an old model, more than 12 years old, but it still looks pretty good. Complete bastard to find these days.

Re: 1/43 F1 Reject-themed model collection
It's usually the previous year's model with the current car's livery/driver helmet, perhaps with some additional modifications, e.g. adjusted wing dimensions for the 2009 showcars IIRC. I'm not sure what happens when a completely new F1 team enters.

You're absolutely right, it's basically a cynical attempt to make money from the customer by stimulating the instinct for completeness, by making the customer buy both the 'showcar' and the actual race car models. As far as I ever come across, all of the Minichamps F1 showcar models are fictional.

Or to make money off inexperienced buyers who can't tell the difference before it's too late (the second model F1 car I bought was a showcar, which wasn't intentional. )

This is a particularly nice model and it's only the 2nd 1/43rd scale model ever manufactured of this car. There was a metal kit over 25 years ago, now long out of production and ridiculously rare. This is of course a double reject.

It was so much nicer than the ungainly lump from 1984. Because I'm sad, I clearly remember watching the German GP of 1985 and asking my father who the hell was Kenny Acheson. I told Kenny Acheson that story when I met him through a friend some years ago.

Re: 1/43 F1 Reject-themed model collection
I need to have a look at photos of the RAM that was tested in early 1986 by Mike Thackwell in Jacarepaguá. The one with 'Australia' sponsorship. I seem to remember that the car was very similar to (if not exactly the same as) the 1985 car and I think the car looked really nice in that test. I now can print my own decals, so I might look at getting another model of this car and customising it to match the car in the test.

Why don't we have noses like that any more?
I blame Ferrari. They were the ones who first put the nose on their car upside down right the way back in 1996.

Wait for 2014. The new rules for 2014 force the teams to build very low noses.
