Round 3 - Sandown

Pre-Qualifying (Split into two groups)

Drivers with times from 01:04.3032 and slower did not qualify.

Qualifying and Race:

Auto Fiction wrote:Alvarez Reina takes second win of the season
Valerian Racing driver Guadalupe Alvarez Reina has extended his lead in the F5000 series with a dominant win in the third round at Sandown. The Argentinian claimed pole position and opened up a huge lead over the rest of the pack who were battling amongst themselves, holding off the hard-charging F1 veteran Jeremy-Etienne Voeckler. Voeckler was relentless in his chase of Alvarez Reina, making up 16 seconds in only the final few laps of the race once breaking away from the battling pack.

The race started with a bang - literally - for Roel Lamberigts and Katie Lea Winter. Lamberigts ran wide in turn 1 and spun back onto the track in front of Winter, taking both out of the race. Erebus Precision had another disappointing round, with Nico Muller losing his rear wing after being hit by Florence Briggs, whilst Thomas Wren was hit by Mark Boutsanis. Rafael Martins continued to be quick, but could not keep it on the road for the third race in succession having ran wide and fallen back in the pack. His race went from bad to worse when he was run into by Rhys Jackson, losing his rear wing.

The Privateers Cup was another one-car event as Ant Leketus failed to qualify, leaving Jeremy-Etienne Voeckler as the only entrant in the race.
This is a cool spot.

Round 5 - Hidden Valley

Report to come...

Current standings:

For the two upcoming 'fly-away' rounds, there'll be an Asian Cup Championship, to encourage local drivers to enter in a part time car. The same will happen for the New Zealand rounds (Kiwi Cup). If there are enough part-time entrants for these rounds, there will be privateer races to determine which part time drivers go through to main qualifying.
This is a cool spot.

Due to existing clashes with ARST, Jeroen Krautmeir will not be available for the round of Sepang. Mitchell Macklin would like to drive the second Hydook for that weekend instead

To everyone asking if they can field a part time driver - yes, you certainly can. Along with the usual details I'll need a livery idea and a list of rounds they will enter.

Also, there has been another event added to the calendar, with Surfers Paradise as a support event to another race series on the 5th and 6th of August.

Jeremy-Etienne Voeckler wrote:Today the guys in the garage set up all the cars perfectly, it as a joy to drive the car today. All three of us were the fastest guys today. It's really unfortunate John [Bean] had that tangle with Reina, he'd probably have won the race otherwise, and disappeared way up the road where I'd not be able to keep up with him!

Anyway, that incident gave me the lead, I was really happy with my pace - look at me, I'm an old fogey! No way I should be matching these young guys. But then I saw behind me Hans [Einhrin] catching up, he was lapping quite faster than myself, so instead of putting us both at risk by fighting tooth and nail, I made sure as soon as he made a good overtake, that if we got into a 50/50 situation, I'd back out. It was still a good fight - I held him off for a few laps! But in the end he made a good move and I didn't want to compromise the team's 1-2 position. It was a great race from all of us today, and I hope for more for the rest of the year. And maybe some more luck for John! With his performances this year, he deserves some...

Hydook line-up overhaul in Malaysia
Hydook Racing Team confirmed that Mitchell Macklin will take Krautmeir's place for the Sepang round of F5000. German driver will not drive the Hydook car in Malaysia due to his ARST commitments.
The team also announced that Heinz-Nick Schuttel - 2014 F1RBCC champion - will be driving the other car in lieu of Milica Bosevic.

Can we get some updates points standings please?

As for the new rules...the ideas are good, but I'm always a fan of fluid implementation, the rules being a guideline rather than something that has to be rigidly stuck to. Rules are there to protect against idiots who try to (either accidentally or on purpose) break the whole system.

I don't have a problem with the numbers at all, rather with how the extra 32 slots are distributed. Couldn't some of these 32 slots come in the form of extra part-time cars for established teams? For example, say I, in charge of NISMO, opt to have a third car for all the flyaway events. For South Africa, I hire Naas Botha, for New Zealand I hire James Douglas, for India I get Victoria Desai, etc etc. You see what I mean? 32 Privateer teams might mean too many stooges - more performances files for each unique driver, more work for you!

I have put the updated standings up in the opening post, though I should've posted them here, so I'll do so now:
Image

In terms of the part time cars, the 32 limit is for each race, not the whole season (as that is the grid limit for the multiplayer component that I will be running each race in) - in saying that I don't expect anywhere near that amount of entrants, based on the current number of part-timers.

To get around the problem of wanting to run a part-timer in all regions, you could have a part time team for each region, such as NISMO South Africa or Nismo New Zealand.

Even at 57 years of age, JEV's still got it! If he finishes on the podium in his last two schedule appearances at Bathurst and Adelaide, who knows, he has half a chance of winning the damn series...

Round 10 Results: Bathurst
http://simresults.net/150505-d90

This was a race of attrition, as almost everyone who led the race screwed up at Murrays Corner and lost a wing. Jeremy-Etienne Voeckler lost that many wings that you could almost be mistaken for thinking that Benoit had started racing the F5000 car a round early.

So JEV won't be champion. Ey, that's okay, be at the sharp end of the title fight despite only doing half the races is a good achievement.

Now to press on with the title charge with the Beano! Come on lad, you can do it! You can finally do something of notability!

This series confirms that D. Lamberigts and Horrie are indeed as rubbish as i expected them to be. This was their last chance and they did next to nothing with it. Good to see that R. Lamberigts is doing fine. Because we need unpronounceable names! (it's with a soft g)
