Anti-spam moderators!

Post by Kuwashima »

Gday all,

As discussed there is a need to have some moderators set up to combat the occasional spam, given that eytl and I are in a different time zone to many of you. Please welcome thehemogoblin (note where the 'L' goes) who's in the US, and CarlosFerreira who's in the UK.

They will also be there to edit out profanity (hopefully not profundity) and keep you all behaving nicely to each other in the spirit of rejectdom. Thank you both for helping us out!

I am Portuguese, but have lived in the UK for some time now.

Profanity in this context is quite vague. Can I judge any post that questions the awesomeness of Williams as profane? No? Oh... ;)

Ah ok... and I agree on censoring any post that question Williams' awesomeness :P

Well... to be more correct, I meant egregious obscenities. To the degree that profane still holds its original meanings of "devoted to that which is not sacred, not respectful of orthodox practice, irreverent" (New Oxford American), this entire website could be considered one giant profanity, right?

I do find James Hunt to be a giant profanity, on a separate note.

I would like say thank you to all concerned for the amount of time you have invested in this forum and the amount of time you will continue to invest. It's one of the reasons things are so lively and uncluttered. Even though I don't post often, I enjoy dropping by and reading what others have to offer.

Thanks again!

Thank you to the founders and to the new moderators for showing all new spammers the door to Alan's shoe shop.

Good move, one partially instigated by me!

Can't complain either about the two guys, great choices.

Many thanks, Warren. The moment you replied this thread, an email came in. That is a true Early Warning System. We ought to give you a medal, or a commendation, or something.

Seriously, though - and this applies to all members: if you detect spam, please post in this thread. This allows the Moderators to have a more rapid action, and keep our playground neater and cleaner. I'm going to ask Kuwashima to see if we can create a sticky "EWS" thread for this purpose.

Thanks, everyone.

Any point to that thread though? The spam shows up as any other new post surely.

Yes. That way, we'll get emails about them, so even when we're not actively on the website, we can take care of the problems.

It goes away. We receive an email saying the thread has been updated, check the forum and act upon. It needn't be as specific as shinji did, although it probably helped (I didn't get that call).

It may not be necessary, the forum's security is being upgraded. But it helps, I suppose.

The ones I saw weren't explicit. I only went in to a couple though.

Went in. Sounds wrong.
