Official 2015 Season Preview

2015 Formula 1 Season Preview - It's Your Last Shot?

F1 continues to evolve, but that might cause some pressure for the teams at the back. Again, 13 teams are ready to fight for the richest prize in the game: who will be good enough to win and who will be good enough to survive in this cruel environment?

Rule Changes:
- From this season on, the fastest lap of the race will be rewarded with another point for the driver achieving it. This raises the maximum number of points earned in a single race to 30.
- The superlicense rules have been revised, from now on, in order to be awarded a superlicense, the requesting driver must turn 19 during the F1 season the superlicense is awarded for. Furthermore, drivers requesting a superlicense must enter with a proper given and surname
- After last year saw the planned mid-season test canceled, the FIA decided to remove it from the schedule altogether. This year, testing will boil down to 600 km of pre-season testing as part of three test days at Paul Ricard HTTT.
- Success ballast will be noticeably increased for 2015 in an experimental shake-up of qualifying procedure, e.g. the winner will recieve more than two times the ballast he recieved last year.
- The prize money key was changed to emphasise the performance over a whole season instead of individual race performance.

Season Calendar:
Marlboro Bahrain Grands Prix – Bahrain International Circuit – 14/15 March
Petronas Chemicals Malaysian Grands Prix – Sepang International Circuit – 28/29 March
Caixa Brazilian Grands Prix – Circuito de Rua de Ribeirão Preto – 11/12 April
Grandes Premios Telmex de Mexico – Parque Fundidora – 2/3 May
Kawasaki United States Grands Prix – Sonoma Raceway – 9/10 May
MCI Canadian Grands Prix – Vancouver Street Circuit – 23/24 May
Motul British Grands Prix – Donington Park – 13/14 June
Große Vodafone Preise von Deutschland – Nürburgring – 20/21 June
Grandes Premios Martini Blanco de España – Valencia Street Circuit – 4/5 July
AMD LIVE! Russian Grands Prix – Irkutsk Speedway – 25/26 July
Große Red Bull Preise von Österreich – Red Bull Ring – 15/16 August

Olympus Chinese Grands Prix – Shanghai International Circuit - 21/22 November

Team Preview:
DHL Brabham Racing Organisation
#1: James James Davies
#2: Robin Frijns

Their first WDC came in 2014, making James James Davies a two-time champion of the world. However, the competition doesn't sleep and Brabham may have just been caught napping. Their testing times are not as promising as they should be, which admittedly only means that they aren't at the absolute sharp end of the field.
Prediction: Upper Midfield

Repsol Villeneuve Racing
#3: Phoenix McAllister
#4: André Lotterer

New Ferrari engines and increased sponsorship from Repsol may appear to be a good thing. However, Repsol are likely to want something for their money and, if testing is the proper indication, Villeneuve may not be able to deliver - their competitiveness has hardly increased in comparison to 2014. At least their drivers have sufficient experience in this business.
Prediction: Backmarker

Canon WilliamsF1 Mercedes
#5: Nico Rosberg
#6: Fernando Alonso

A monopoly can make a provider a very powerful person. Sir Frank Williams proves it by ripping off his drivers in the market. Both earn less than last year and Nico Rosberg is even the formal number two, although he has declared no intention of obeying any team orders and the likes. However, the FW37 may just make it all worth it by being one of the best F1 cars out there.
Prediction: Top 4

Carling Sauber F1 Team
#7: Sébastien Bourdais
#8: Dave Cassidy

No line-up changes at Sauber, but new money came in: Cassidy bringing a deal with the Carling brewery. This money is bound to help the Swiss team and they have used it well, producing another car that is bound to fight for race wins. Will it be enough to earn them another world title?
Prediction: Top 4

Team Peugeot
#14: Romain Grosjean
#15: Marc Gené

Peugeot continue to build around Romain Grosjean, who, for lack of other options, accepts the minimum wage deal from last season. He will be supported by Marc Gené, the Le Mans winner getting rewarded with his F1 debut for his services for Peugeot. Can this combination succeed?
Prediction: Lower Midfield

Airbus Caterham F1 Team
#18: Sebastian Vettel
#19: Daniil Kwjat

The tragic story of Sebastian Vettel continues, as he must now be content with a mere Caterham when he has the talent for so much bigger things. At least Airbus came in and took care of the budget gap caused by Intel leaving. Kwjat will look to develop his skills further, rejecting an offer to be a test driver for Williams.
Prediction: Lower Midfield

CESPA Red Bull Racing Hyundai
#25: Jenson Button
#26: Alex Lynn

Steve Nielsen, the man taking over as team principal of Red Bull, was, according to rumours, told to finally turn things around at Red Bull after two miserable seasons. Rumours of Hyundai withdrawing make his job harder than it is, but for now he looks extremely likely to achieve his goal: the RB11 is an awesome car.
Prediction: Top 4

Scuderia Ferrari
#27: Evgeny Restov
#28: Alexandre-Laurent Voeckler

Their miserable 2014 season has taken its toll on the Italian team. Sponsors have left the team in droves, leaving a rather blank F2015. That is a shame, because Ferrari have improved on their form and give Restov and the returning ALV a car that should be in the points more often than not.
Prediction: Upper Midfield

Adidas Stefan Grand Prix Mercedes
#30: Lewis Hamilton
#31: Mikhail Aleshin

For the last seasons, it was basically a clockwork effect: Stefan go up, Stefan go down. This circle may be broken this year, but that is not good news for Stefan. Their car is, as Lewis Hamilton put it, "the worst car [he has] ever driven". This, and the fact that the Adidas deal is in its final season, are not good news.
Prediction: Backmarker

Marussia F1 Team Ferrari
#32: Felipe Nasr
#33: Kevin Magnussen

The good news is that Marussia's car have improved and they should climb up one or two places in the team's championship. The bad news is that this may not be enough to secure funding for 2016 and beyond. Felipe Nasr will have to play team leader, as his drafted team mate looks to learn everything about F1.
Prediction: Backmarker

Mahindra Racing
#51: Valtteri Bottas
#52: Jean-Éric Vergne

Their drivers are unchanged and Mercedes continue to provide valueable support. In theory, Mahindra have no reason to do worse than last season. However, F1 is a tough battlefield and with Mercedes themselves slighty struggling, Mahindra must beware of being left behind by their rivals.
Prediction: Lower Midfield

Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team
#73: Jeroen Krautmeir
#74: Felipe Massa

No changes in the Mercedes personnel, but quite a lot of changes in sponsorship. Their funding is secure, but their success is not. Mercedes will have to work hard if they don't want to drop right back into the midfield they spend 2013 in.
Prediction: Upper Midfield

Marlboro McLaren Hyundai
#79: Robert Kubica
#80: Daniel Ricciardo

Chris Dagnall and his bunch of investors have brought the McLaren staff a lot of money in what will be McLaren's final season under their legendary name. Testing shows it will be a brilliant farewell, having a chance to fight for race wins. They bring back a world champion in Kubica, but he must beware: his rookie team mate is extremely talented.
Prediction: Top 4

Sponsorship Market + FIA Young Driver's Draft

Post by Klon »

Sponsorship Market

The first of many changes in 2014 is, that there won't be individual driver sponsorship anymore. Instead, you may now proceed to sign a main sponsor for your team in order to earn more money for the team.
There are two sponsors available for your team, which will pay you certain amounts of money, depending on which one of the four conditions your team fulfills:

Statistic Condition - The sponsor will support you and very specific demands regarding the achievements of one of your driver. This condition will pay out €40,000,000.
Nationality Condition - The sponsor will support you and demand a driver of a certain nationality be signed. This condition will pay out €25,000,000.
No Condition - The sponsor will support you without asking for anything but a spot on your car. This condition will pay out €10,000,000.

Any driver demands go for one year. You may sign a driver meeting the demands for longer than that, but it will not assure you sponsorship for the next seasons. Please note that if you fail to meet the Advancement Condition, you will have to pay the entire sum back to the company. No team needs to agree to the Advancement Condition to survive, any team that would is declared bankrupt. For the other conditions, you must not decide on the condition right now, the money for whatever condition you fulfill will be added to your account after you have signed your drivers. Further note that age-related clauses mean "age at the first race of the F1 season" (March 14, 2015).

For these two elements, please fill out this formula until August 27, 11:45 p.m. CEST

Code: Select all

FIA Young Driver's Draft

To both encourage teams to give new drivers a chance and to ensure sponsorship is not the decisive element in drivers getting F1 drives, the FIA has designed the FIA Young Driver's Draft. 30 drivers from all over the world have accepted invitations by the FIA to become part of this event.

Arthur Pic (France)
Ben Kennedy (United States)
Chelsea Angelo (Australia)
Dan Cammish (United Kingdom)
Dani Clos (Spain)
Dylan Wilmington (Canada) - Ataxia
Earl Bamber (New Zealand)
Einar Ármannsson (Iceland) - kevinbotz
João Oliveira (Portugal) - takagi_for_the_win
Jules Bianchi (France)
Kevin Valerian (France) - Normal32
Luiz Razia (Brazil)
Markus Pommer (Germany)
Nobuharu Matsushita (Japan)
Nyck de Fries (Netherlands)
Rafael Martins (Portugal) - Miguel98
Sage Karam (United States)
Sami Ivarsson (Sweden) - Rated
Scott Hargrove (Canada)
Scott Pye (Australia)
Simon Hodge (Australia)
Spencer Pigot (United States)
Stefano Coletti (Monaco)
Thomas Wren (United Kingdom) - peteroli34
Tsugio Matsuda (Japan)
Valentino Rossi (Italy)
William Buller (United Kingdom)
Yang Xu (China)
Yuji Kunimoto (Japan)
Zack Meyer (Canada)

Now, each team can pick one of these. The order of picks was determined in a weighted lottery a few days after the end of the season and is as follows.

Draft Order:
1. Mercedes
2. Villeneuve
3. Stefan
4. Marussia
5. Mahindra
6. Caterham
7. Ferrari
8. Red Bull
9. Peugeot
10. McLaren
11. Sauber
12. Brabham
13. Williams

Notes:
Mercedes have purchased McLaren's draft pick for €11,000,000 and Mercedes's 10th pick.

After each team has picked a young driver, they have a so-called right of first refusal for the next four years (i.e. the 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 season). That means, that if their driver gets a contract offer from another team, the drafting team may choose to match that offer and sign the driver themselves. Furthermore, a drafted young driver may not refuse the contract offer of the team that drafted him during those four years. Generally, the following holds true: if your drafted driver is approach mid-season, the right of first refusal does not force you to sack one of your drivers to keep him. Instead, matching that offer will mean his contract starts as soon as one driver contract of your team runs out; also, you are required to match the offer in all details, wage, contract length and position, i.e. you can't match a race drive offer with a friday drive offer (although you can offer a race drive to match a friday drive). Any team that signs their drafted driver for a racing contract is given a €10,000,000 bonus.

Please send a list of your draft choices to [email protected] until August 27, 11:45 p.m. CEST. Please list at least as many possible choices as needed for your position in the draft (e.g. 10 for Mercedes), since you will forfeit your draft pick and be subject to a €5,000,000 fine if you don't have a valid draft option. If you wish to sell or give your draft pick to another team, post any agreements in this thread.

Point System Vote

On Williams's request, the FIA and FOM have decided to let the teams vote on a change of a point system regarding FLAP and pole positions. The following three suggestions are available for choice.
a) Current System: 4 points for pole position and 0 points for FLAP
b) Modified System: 4 points for pole position and 1 point for FLAP
c) Equal System: 4 points for pole position and 4 points for FLAP

Superlicense Vote

Due to teams enquiring about the services of Max Verstappen, the FIA and FOM have decided to let the teams vote on a change of the superlicense rules. The following three suggestions are available for choice.
a) Current System: No age limits
b) Sensible System: Minimum Age 19 during the season, no Maximum Age
c) Extreme System: Minimum Age 19 during the season, Maximum Age 49 during the season

Autosport wrote:McLaren facilities bought by Chris Dagnall; Team to be renamed DGNgineering for 2015
After enduring arguably the worst season in their long and storied history, it seems that 2014 was the final blow for McLaren - a team which, despite almost winning the 2012 Drivers' Championship with Sebastian Vettel, has never really recovered from the blow dealt to it by its tax troubles at the beginning of the decade. The British team reportedly turned down a lucrative sponsorship deal with Loctite in the 2013-14 off-season, which may have alleviated its financial woes, although whether or not it would've prevented the total meltdown of anything resembling competitiveness will sadly never be known.

Chris Dagnall, who won the 1991 World Drivers' Championship with McLaren, as well as directing his own team to both titles in F1RWRS, has taken sole ownership of the facilities. There is no word on what changes will be made within the team, although Dagnall has confirmed that the team will be known as McLaren for the 2015 season as a "mark of respect", and as DGNgineering thereafter. There is also no word on what effects this may have on DGNgineering's F1RWRS participation, if any, though Dagnall has also stated that, "things will become clearer over the course of the year."

One thing for certain, however, is that although the legend of one of the greatest Formula One teams of all time is at an end, the legend of another may be just beginning.

McLaren are interested in selling our draft pick.

We believe we've already matched the statistic condition by hiring James Davies for 2 years (including 2015). We do not believe in rookie draft position will bring us a good driver, so is there a possibility to forfeit this or sell it to another team if interested?

Indeed you have matched the condition. Regarding the draft pick: forfeit? No. Sell it? Yes, if you find a buyer.

Alright, since it is better for everyone involved that we have as much of the September as possible to run races, I will move back the deadline a bit. Deadlines for both draft picks and sponsor choices are now August 27, 11:45 p.m. CEST

I meant draft picks or agreements on what to do with them.

Car Market
Here's the Price table

>> Step 1: Buying an engine
We have four manufacturers available for your choice if you happen to be a customer team. I will explain the columns: company should be self-explainatory. The type of engine describes whether you are purchasing a V10 NA engine or an I4 turbo engine and BHP states its power in qualifying and race. CFP means Car Failure Probability, i.e. it's a fancy term for reliability. The higher it is, the more likely your car is to retire from a race. To explain the prices: the works column represents the development costs the work teams have to simulate the additional costs of developing the engines. Due to a change in the engine system for 2016 (more infos on that later) you won't be able to sign multi-year deals this season.
The following teams have a valid engine contract already and have no need to sign with a manufacturer: Ferrari, Marussia, Mercedes, Peugeot, Sauber, Red Bull, Stefan and Williams.

>> Step 2: Developing a chassis
Explaining the columns as well: Upgrades replace testing (to a point, there will be one mid-season test), the upgrades are in the right top of the table. Updates can be applied at any time from after the first weekend until the day before the start of the final GP weekend of the season. From 2015 onwards, upgrades will only be applied before the start of the next weekend. Furthermore note that half of the upgrades you use are carried over to the next season. You may never have more than three upgrades more than your chassis type permits. The lower chassis have a higher number of possible upgrades to counter the fact that the higher chassis types are more expensive. Max Grip determines the highest amount of grip possible, your car won't have more grip than that value, no matter what, even if you had HWNSNBM himself driving the vehicle. An RNG will determine that value once you have decided on a chassis type. CFP is the same as with engines - the lower the number the more likely your car is to finish.

>> Step 3: Arranging brothels
Explaining the columns for the third time: Max Grip increases the max grip value of your chassis for the last third of the season. Range is the value that is added on to the Random Grip Range, i.e. the value used by the game to determine inconsistency. The higher that value, the more likelier your driver is to have a bad day. You must make your brothel selection before the start of the year and may not change it.

If you have any questions, go ahead and ask. :)

Alright, please fill out this until Sunday, August 31 (2 a.m. CEST) and post it in this thread. Once you have posted the data, editing your post is forbidden unless I allow you to:

Code: Select all

Team:
Engine: Ferrari/Hyundai/Mercedes/Peugeot (only if you do not have an engine contract in place already)
Chassis: A/B/C/D
Brothels: High Class/Low Class/None

After purchasing chassis, engine and brothels, your team must only be so far in debt that you are able to get back into the black numbers after the sponsorship clause has been added after the driver market.

Furthermore, note that if you have not posted your choices until the deadline, your spot will be taken by a user from the waiting list.

Just out of curiousity: the 10-million bonus for a rookie driver is provided no matter which of my rookies I chose or I must sign with the rookie from this specific draft (i.e. de Vries)?

Good question actually. I meant rookies from this draft, but since I failed to state that, I guess every draftee goes. Unless said draftee had been driving in 2014 already.
