Truly.

In fact, he joins an elite group of four other drivers with only one single lap point to their name.

-Hubert Hahne
-Chico Serra
-Enrique Bernoldi
-Giorgio Pantano

Truly a star-studded roster.

VETTELWINSLOL.

14 wins out of 19 races, breaking Schumacher's record from 2004. Counting the last four races of 2010, Vettel took an unprecedented 13 consecutive Grand Prix victories. No one was even close to matching him, aside from a handful of races.

The battle for second was more exciting. Hamilton had the early lead, but Alonso soon started to catch him, eventually scoring eleven podiums. Towards the later part of the season, Button started catching the both of them, but his charge petered out when Hamilton and Alonso kept the pace. Hamilton scored three wins and eventually came third, Button and Webber one each.

More interestingly, Vitaly Petrov scored a podium in Australia before losing pace for the rest of the season, but generally had the measure of teammates Nick Heidfeld and Bruno Senna. Sergio Pérez had a difficult start to the season, but after an accident in Monaco and subsequent return in Europe, improved dramatically, regularly scoring points thereafter. Despite this, he was outpaced by Kobayashi most of the year. The Japanese driver even took a popular second place in the rain-interrupted Canadian Grand Prix.

Alguersuari finally scored race points and thoroughly beat Buemi, while Sutil again finished tenth in the championship, beating di Resta, while Pastor Maldonado ended up regularly outpacing Barrichello after a rough start. Oh, and further back, Trulli and Kovalainen scored 11 lap points for Lotus, and Karthikeyan scored HRT's first two points in Canada.

No one really had the advantage in the early season, with seven different drivers winning the first seven races. Then, Fernando Alonso suddenly won three races on the trot and established himself in the championship lead, though he was not very comfortable in that spot. Sebastian Vettel scored podiums regularly, keeping himself within range. He capitalised on Alonso's null score in Belgium caused by Romain Grosjean, then began a four-race winning streak in Singapore that proved lethal to Alonso's title hopes. With a victory in Austin, Vettel sealed his sixth and seventh world titles. Alonso still walked away with a greater amount of podiums, showing his regularity throughout the year.

Of course, there were pleasant surprises. Romain Grosjean scored two podiums and Räikkönen five, including a resounding victory in Abu Dhabi, scoring lap points in every race and race points in all bar Brazil. Nico Rosberg scored his maiden victory in China, but aside from second place in Monaco, he failed to keep up the momentum, though still handily beating the finally retiring Michael Schumacher.

Pastor Maldonado was far more consistent this year, scoring race points on multiple occasions and lap points almost every time, thoroughly beating Bruno Senna. However, it was his unexpected victory in Spain ahead of Alonso that was his standout performance, and was better remembered than other giant-killing performances. The Sauber drivers each scored a podium, Pérez third in Malaysia and Kobayashi in Japan, being the Japanese driver's third career podium. Hülkenberg, after a difficult 2010 season, subsequent year off and tough start to the season, showed his true colours in the season's second half, comprehensively outpacing Paul di Resta and scoring a solid podium in Spa before leading a lengthy portion of the Brazilian Grand Prix, where an unfortunate drop in the standings relegated him to second place behind Button.

This was also the best year for the so-called new teams, with a combined 112 lap points scored compared to 2010's 74 and 2011's measly 13. Kovalainen understandably took the greater portion of that total with 59 of them. Most of these 112 points were scored in the record-breaking Brazilian Grand Prix, where no less than 20 drivers scored. This allowed the new teams to score 65 lap points, almost entirely in the chaotic early portion of the race.

There was no answer for Vettel this year. Even though he won less than in 2011, with 11 wins to that year's 14, this time, he finished every single race on the podium, without exception. Only one other driver has managed this: Juan Manuel Fangio, in 1954 and 1955. Alonso was vaguely close in the first half, and Romain Grosjean in the second, while Nio Rosberg also managed two wins to beat his teammate Hamilton.

Speaking of Grosjean, he scored a very popular race victory in Suzuka, breaking Vettel's late streak of victories to four either side. There were also feel-good performances from Force India, Paul di Resta finishing second in Bahrain, and Adrian Sutil leading part of the Australian Grand Prix and finishing third in Silverstone. Sadly, for the first time since 2008, there were teams who didn't score. They were, of course, Marussia and Caterham.
