Race abandoned after massive accident

The Walt Disney Indy 200 was abandoned after a terrible crash happened at lap nine. The accident began when Helio Castroneves and Mauricio Gugelmin made contact, sending Gugelmin onto the grass. Whilst Gugelmin returned to the circuit, he didn't see that there was backmarkers coming behind him. Gugelmin was hit by Hiteshi Matsuda, Michele Alboreto, Dennis Vitolo and Robby Gordon.

The injuries:

Gugelmin: 4 races, will not be able to race as fast as before the accident until round 7
Matsuda: Retires from oval racing
Alboreto: None, will not be able to race as fast as before the accident until round 4
Vitolo: None
Gordon: 1 race, retires from racing after season, saying it is too dangerous

=5 cars retired in the space of 1 lap, then I decided to watch an rFactor race, and then epic fail happened

REPLACEMENTS NEEDED!

Also, Penske needs to choose; they have received criticism from the fans that the cars are unsafe.

Option 1: Strenght +1, Speed -1 (strenght also makes the car more reliable)
Option 2: Strenght 0, Speed 0 (some drivers don't want to sign contracts)

Matsuda ended pretty badly with that oval racing retirement. I feel myself pretty wasted for Gugelmin...

So I will replace him with Greg Moore for those 4 races.
Also, I guess with his price of 4.75m and using his for 4 races (1/5th of a season) I gotta get him for 950k?

If so, I will bid 1m exactly for him for the next 4 races.

Project CART will sign Stefan Johansson. And since Mr. Gordon feels racing is too dangerous, rather than have a lame duck driver whose heart isn't isn't in it, he is released immediately, and Stefan will be our driver for the full year.

Exactly, in real life it's the other way round - Gordon is too dangerous for racing :D

This is not dead - I've just been incredibly busy with school lately. I'll post the next qualifying tomorrow.

I've also been thinking about allowing fictional drivers in this series. You can now vote:

Option 1. Allow fictional drivers and teams. Let the rejectfulness begin

Option 2. Allow fictional drivers only.

Option 3. Real drivers and teams only.

Newman-Haas would like to have a fictional drivers and teams-only series. It would be awesome, and, you know, some famous fictional drivers have raced in early 90s and 2000s but have done nothing inbetween them, so the series would also help making the careers more realistic. So like AltCART, but starting at a different year and (hopefully) lasting more than one season. :D

I would say keep it real since you would have to reboot the series otherwise.

What about allowing fictional drivers and teams next season, and allowing current team owners to rename the teams?

This could be the last season before some incredibly quick rookies appear and dominate the field, and all the other drivers decide to go home :D

This series is non-canon, so that's not possible.

Yes, but what about running this season as non-canon, and making this canon for 1999?

I'm not really big on turning series canon/non-canon after they've already started. Besides, this is a series which allows Michael Schumacher to be signed away from Formula 1 - no offense, but that's not exactly inspiring much confidence in me.

Real-life drivers is the best option.

Having it mixed between real-life and fictional is easily the worst.

Team Rahal is delighted with the results, especially with Greg Moore's pole position. Meanwhile in the team garage, Maurício Gugelmin is also seen pumping his fist.

Moore's such a superb driver...
